Noah hardly had time to knock before Kai pulled the door open, his fingers taut as he dragged him in. As soon as the door closed, Kai was already walking back and forth, his fists balled, his jaw clenched.
"Does she have the nerve to play victim? You have got to be kidding me?" Kai's tone was cutting, tinged with anger. "She ruined me, Noah. I gave her everything, and she discarded it like it was worthless. And now, she's playing the victim like I'm the one who's broken?"
Noah watched the fissures in Kai's hard shell grow. Never had he seen Kai so raw—so vulnerable. "But you were fine when ash and east was around don't you?"
Without thinking, Noah took a step forward, putting a hand on Kai's shoulder. Kai hesitated as his body reacted to the heat of Noah's touch. Their gazes locked, and for the first time since Noah's arrival, Kai's breathing relaxed.
The distance between them narrowed.
