Kai's body went limp in Noah's arms. The weight of him was heavy, but nothing compared to the heaviness in Noah's chest.
"Kai! Kai, wake up!" Noah's voice cracked as he gently shook him, his hands trembling.
Ash, Mick, and East were beside them in seconds, their faces pale with worry.
"Shit—he just fell over," East growled, placing two fingers on Kai's neck. "His pulse is weak. We have to get him to a hospital."
They picked Kai up without another word, Noah not releasing him as they rushed to the car. The ride to the hospital was an eternity, the silence heavy with tension. Kai was draped across Noah, his head on his chest, his breathing shallow.
Even in unconsciousness, he murmured Noah's name, his fingers jerking as if grasping for him.
Noah's throat constricted. He stroked Kai's sweat-soaked hair, murmuring, "I'm right here, idiot. Just hang on."
