Kai wouldn't accept that Noah was gone. The moment he woke up and Ash's hesitant answer confirmed it, something inside him snapped. He ripped out the IV line, disregarded the dizziness crashing over him, and stormed out of the hospital in defiance of the protesting nurses. All he wanted was to find Noah. Make things right that he messed up.
He tried Noah's apartment first, banging on the door until his neighbor poked her head out with an irritable scowl. No answer. The door was closed, like a tomb.
He then went to their go-to pub, expecting to find Noah sitting in the corner, a whiskey on the rocks, looking infectiously maddening. But the stool was vacant. The bartender shook his head when Kai asked if he'd seen Noah.
Desperation clawed at Kai's throat as he drove to Pong's place. If Noah was anywhere, it had to be there. He knocked once. Twice. Harder. When Pong finally opened the door, she looked startled.
"Kai?"
"Where is he?" Kai demanded, breathless.
