Chapter 31: stealth mission!

Kieth pressed on through the dense underbrush, his senses heightened. The distant growls of demons echoed around him, a constant reminder of the danger that lurked in the shadows. He had to be cautious; every step could lead him closer to the enemy or further into peril.

As he navigated the forest, Kieth's mind raced with thoughts of the dwarven kingdom and the captives still held within its walls. He had to find a way to rescue them, but he needed to be smart about it. Charging in recklessly would only lead to disaster.

As he climbs into a tall tree and looks into his scope. And he saw lower-ranking demons inside the kingdom and some of the captives in the middle of the courtyard, their hands bound and faces marked with despair. Keith's heart sank at the sight. The dwarven kingdom, once a bastion of strength and resilience, now lay under the oppressive shadow of the demonic horde. He focused his scope, taking in the details of the scene below.

The courtyard was bustling with activity. Lower-ranking demons, grotesque and brutish, patrolled the area, their eyes scanning for any signs of trouble. Kieth could see a few dwarves, their heads bowed in defeat, while others exchanged furtive glances, perhaps plotting a way to escape. He noted the layout of the courtyard, the positions of the guards, and the potential routes for a rescue.

"Man, so many of them. I need to find the safest path to enter and be as stealthy as I can; if I get caught, I'll be forced to fight hundreds of them.Kieth took a deep breath, steadying his racing heart as he continued to observe the scene below. The demons moved with a brutish efficiency, their snarls punctuating the air as they barked orders at one another. He could see a few of the captives trying to muster the courage to speak, their eyes darting around as if searching for a glimmer of hope.

He shifted his focus back to the layout of the courtyard. To the left, a crumbling stone wall provided some cover, while to the right, a cluster of barrels and crates could serve as a makeshift hiding spot. The main entrance was heavily guarded, but there was a narrow alleyway that led to a side door, partially obscured by overgrown vines. It seemed like the best option for a stealthy approach.

Kieth pulled out a small notepad and began sketching a rough map of the courtyard, marking the positions of the demons and the captives. He noted the timing of the guards' patrols, watching as they moved in predictable patterns. If he timed his movements right, he could slip past them unnoticed.

"Okay, Kieth," he muttered to himself, "you've got this. Just stay calm and focused." He took one last look through his scope, committing the details to memory before carefully climbing down from the tree. The ground was soft beneath his feet, muffling his movements as he made his way toward the edge of the courtyard. Ok, Mochi, don't make any noise, ok? We're fucked if they hear a noise," he said. Mochi just looked at him and meowed back at him.

As he approached the wall, he crouched low, peering around the corner to assess the situation. A pair of demons stood just a few feet away, their backs turned to him as they argued over something trivial. Kieth seized the opportunity, slipping into the shadows and moving toward the alleyway.

His heart raced as he crept closer, every muscle in his body tense with anticipation. The alleyway loomed ahead, a narrow passage that seemed to promise both safety and danger. He could hear the demons' voices growing louder, their laughter echoing off the stone walls, but he focused on his breathing, keeping it steady and quiet.

As he slipped into the alley, he pressed himself against the damp stone, feeling the coolness seep through his clothes. The scent of moss and decay filled the air, mingling with the faint metallic tang of blood. He shuddered at the thought of what might have happened to those who had crossed the demons.

"Hey! Take that one! Put him here! And that one, put him in the cell. We need to separate the weak and children before the lieutenant comes back!" One of the demon's bark orders put a smile on Kieth's face to learn that the demon lieutenant is not here; the risk he was facing is now lowered. Now all he had to do was kill some demons stealthily while saving the captives.

Kieth took a moment to gather his thoughts, his mind racing with possibilities. The absence of the lieutenant was a stroke of luck, but he knew he couldn't let his guard down. He had to act quickly and decisively. The captives were counting on him, and every second wasted could mean another life lost.

He peered around the corner of the alleyway, scanning the courtyard for any signs of movement. The two demons he had seen earlier were still engaged in their argument, oblivious to the world around them. Keith's eyes narrowed as he formulated a plan. If he could take them out silently, it would create a distraction and give him a better chance to reach the captives.

With a deep breath, he reached for his dagger, its blade glinting faintly in the dim light. He had trained for moments like this, honing his skills in stealth and precision. He crept forward, his movements fluid and silent, like a shadow slipping through the night.

"Thank God, my stats aren't reduced into a normal human, if I am. I'll be fucked." He murmurs to himself as he creeps into the dark corner, avoiding two demons that are chatting while carrying crates of supplies.

Kieth's heart pounded in his chest as he approached the two demons, their backs still turned to him. He could hear their gruff voices, punctuated by the occasional clatter of crates. The scent of sweat and something foul wafted from their direction, but he pushed the discomfort aside, focusing on the task at hand.

He moved closer, his dagger poised and ready. The first demon, a hulking brute with jagged teeth and a scarred face, leaned down to pick up a crate, exposing the vulnerable spot at the back of his neck. Kieth seized the moment and aimed his M1 pistol at one of the demon's heads with a silencer attached. With a steady hand, Kieth took a deep breath, aligning the sights of his pistol with the demon's head. The world around him faded into silence, the distant growls and laughter of the other demons becoming a mere whisper in the background. He squeezed the trigger gently, feeling the familiar recoil as the bullet shot forth, finding its mark with a soft thud.

"As the second demon murmured about their lack of sleep, when his companion didn't respond to him, he turned his head and saw his friend falling to the ground. Blood poured from his head as he was about to shout; he heard a muffled bang, and his vision blurred, and he too fell to the ground.

Kieth took a moment to steady his breath, the adrenaline coursing through his veins as he surveyed the scene. The two demons lay motionless at his feet, their bodies sprawled awkwardly on the cobblestones. He quickly scanned the courtyard, ensuring that no one had noticed the commotion. The other demons remained oblivious, their attention focused elsewhere. "Tsk, I need to hide this fucker's body.Kieth knelt beside the fallen demons, his mind racing as he quickly assessed the situation. He had to act fast; the longer their bodies lay exposed, the greater the chance someone would stumble upon them. He glanced around the courtyard, searching for a suitable hiding spot.

To his left, a stack of crates loomed, partially obscured by shadows. It would have to do. With a grunt, he dragged the first demon's body toward the crates, his muscles straining under the weight. He glanced over his shoulder, ensuring that no one was watching, before he heaved the body behind the stack, tucking it out of sight. He repeated the process with the second demon, his heart racing as he worked quickly and quietly.

Once the bodies were hidden, Kieth took a moment to catch his breath. The adrenaline was still pumping through him.

"Now that's done. Let's see what the crate contains." As he rummaged through the crate's contents, he saw food, swords, etc. As he grabbed a few of the foods and one medium-sized sword, he said,Alright, time to use my skills now that the system is down. Let's test my knife skills." As he said that, he crouched and slowly walked toward the dimly lit alley because he knew he couldn't linger. He had to keep moving. He peered around the corner of the crates, scanning the courtyard for any signs of danger. The other demons were still distracted, their attention drawn to a commotion near the far side of the courtyard where a group of captives was being herded toward a nearby building.

Kieth's heart raced as he watched the scene unfold. The captives, their faces pale and drawn, were being pushed forward by a trio of demons, their jagged claws glinting in the dim light. The sight of their despair fueled Kieth's resolve. He couldn't let them suffer any longer.

He took a moment to assess the situation. The demons were focused on the captives, which gave him a small window of opportunity. He needed to create a diversion to draw the guards away from the captives, allowing him to slip in and free them. As he turned his head, he threw a rock at a stock-up crate, making it fall. And one of the demons notices it and slowly walks toward the crate.

Kieth held his breath, watching as the demon approached the fallen crate, its eyes narrowing in suspicion. The other two demons, still preoccupied with herding the captives, didn't seem to notice the disturbance. This was his chance.

As the lone demon leaned down to investigate the noise, Kieth seized the moment. He slipped out from behind the crates, moving with the stealth of a shadow. He crept up behind the distracted demon, his heart pounding in his chest. The demon was larger than the others, with thick muscles and a menacing presence, but Kieth had the element of surprise on his side.

With a swift motion, he drew his dagger, its blade glinting in the dim light. He positioned himself just behind the demon, waiting for the perfect moment. The demon grunted, scratching its head as it peered into the crate, oblivious to the danger lurking behind it.

Keith's breath quickened as he prepared to strike. He could feel the weight of the dagger in his hand, a familiar comfort in the chaos surrounding him. The demon's back was turned, and the moment felt like an eternity, stretching out as he waited for the right opportunity.

Finally, the demon leaned in closer, its attention fully absorbed by the crate. Kieth seized the moment, lunging forward with a fierce determination. He drove the dagger into the demon's neck, the blade slicing through flesh with a sickening ease. The demon let out a strangled gasp, its eyes widening in shock as it crumpled to the ground, lifeless, before it could utter a sound.

Kieth quickly withdrew his dagger, wiping the blood off on the demon's tattered clothing before glancing back at the captives. The commotion had drawn the attention of the other demons, but they were still focused on the captives, unaware of the danger lurking behind them. He had to act fast.

With the larger demon now out of the way, Kieth moved swiftly, slipping into the shadows once more. He could see the captives being herded toward the building, their faces a mix of fear and resignation. He felt a surge of anger at the sight, knowing he had to do something to help them.

He scanned the courtyard for any remaining threats. The two demons who had been arguing earlier were still distracted, but he could see a few more patrolling the perimeter. He needed to create another diversion to keep their attention away from the captives.

Kieth spotted a pile of loose stones near the wall. With a quick glance to ensure no one was watching, he crept over and picked up a handful of stones. He took a deep breath, focusing on his aim. He needed to throw them far enough to create a noise that would draw the demons away.

He chose a spot near the far end of the courtyard, where a few barrels stood. With a flick of his wrist, he hurled the stones toward the barrels, the sound of clattering echoing through the air. The noise was enough to catch the attention of the patrolling demons, who turned their heads in curiosity.

"Hey! Go check that out!" one of the demons barked, pointing toward the sound. The others nodded and began to move in that direction, leaving the captives momentarily unguarded.

Keith seized the opportunity. He dashed toward the captives, his heart racing as he approached them. They looked up in surprise, their eyes wide with a mix of hope and fear. He held a finger to his lips, signaling for them to be quiet.

"Stay calm," he whispered urgently. "I'm here to help you. We need to move quickly. You guys need to go that dark alleyway where you can find a crack in the wall that's your way to escape. I'll handle these demons."

The dwarves exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from despair to determination. Kieth quickly assessed their bonds, noting that they were tied with rough rope. He pulled out his dagger, its blade still slick with demon blood, and began to cut through the ropes binding the nearest captive.

"Thank you," the dwarf whispered, his voice trembling with emotion as he rubbed his wrists. "We thought you were dead, sir hero."

"Not yet, at least," Kieth replied, glancing around to ensure the coast was still clear. "You need to get you all out of here before they realize what's happening." As the captives silently crouch and walk towards the cracked wall, Kieth hurriedly pulls out a large blanket and pillow he picked up nearby and makes it like a human shape and positions it like the captives before. "Okay, time to hide, Mochi. Let's go," he whispered, and they hid nearby so he could take out those demons one by one.

Kieth held his breath as he watched the captives slip away into the shadows, their figures disappearing into the narrow alleyway. He felt a surge of relief wash over him, but he knew the danger was far from over. The demons would soon realize something was amiss, and he had to be ready to face them.

With a quick glance at the makeshift dummy he had created, he ensured it looked convincing enough to fool any passing demon. The blanket draped over the pile of pillows gave the illusion of a slumped figure, and he hoped it would buy him enough time.

"Alright, Mochi," he whispered, glancing down at his feline companion, who was perched quietly on his shoulder. "Time to take out the trash."

He crept back toward the courtyard, his senses alert for any signs of movement. The demons were still distracted by the noise he had created, but he could see a few of them starting to wander back, their expressions shifting from curiosity to suspicion. Keith needed to act fast.

He spotted a lone demon patrolling near the entrance of the building where the captives had been taken. This demon was smaller than the others but still brutish enough to pose a threat. Kieth crouched low, moving silently toward the demon, his dagger ready in hand.

As he approached, he could hear the demon muttering to itself, its voice gruff and low. "Stupid noise. Probably just a rat. I swear, if I catch something, I'll—"

Kieth seized the moment, lunging forward with a swift and silent motion. He drove his dagger into the demon's side, the blade piercing through flesh and sinew. The demon let out a strangled gasp, its eyes widening in shock as it crumpled to the ground, lifeless before it could make a sound. "Now that the guard is gone, time to free all the captives underground." As he said that, he went inside the underground cells to free the captives.

Kieth moved swiftly through the dimly lit corridor that led to the underground cells, his heart pounding with anticipation. The air was thick with the stench of dampness and decay, a stark reminder of the horrors that had taken place within these walls. He could hear the faint sounds of despair echoing from the cells, a haunting melody that spurred him on.

As he approached the first cell, he peered through the bars and saw a group of dwarves huddled together, their faces pale and drawn. They looked up at him with a mix of fear and hope, their eyes wide as they recognized the figure before them.

"Who are you?" one of them whispered, his voice trembling. "Are you here to help us? Wa-wait, are you the hero summoner? Oh, thank God, we're safe now. The gods sent us one of the heroes."

"Ok, thank them later," Kieth replied, his voice low and steady. "I'm here to get you out. But we need to be quick. The demons will notice something is wrong soon."

He quickly assessed the lock on the cell door. It was a simple mechanism, but he didn't have time to waste. He pulled out his dagger and began to work on the lock, his hands steady despite the urgency of the situation. After a few tense moments, he heard a satisfying click, and the door swung open.

"Get out, quickly!" he urged, stepping aside to let the dwarves spill into the corridor. They moved cautiously, glancing around to ensure the coast was clear.

As the last dwarf emerged from the cell, Kieth turned to them. "We need to stick together. Follow me and stay quiet."

"Thank you, Sir Hero. My name is Serena, and this is my squad. I'm one of the royal knights that got captured by the demons. We will follow your orders, sir.!" She said and bowed to Kieth, but Kieth was uncomfortable with the gesture and turned his head and noticed a crate, and as he approached it, he could smell a familiar smell.Ah, "Sir Hero, what's wrong?" she asked, and Kieth just smirked and spoke.

"Heh, this is nice to find this kind of mixture here. Alright, time to escape with a bang!" He replied with a sinister grin .
