Chapter 34: out of options!

The impact sent Keeirishika sprawling forward, cutting one of her arms in the process, her dark tendrils dissipating as she struggled to regain her footing. The plaza erupted in chaos around them, but for Josh and Grath, time seemed to slow as they focused on their target.

"Don't stop moving! Grath, go!" Josh shouted, his voice cutting through the din of battle. Grath, seizing the moment, charged forward with a primal roar, his weapon raised high. The blade of light glimmered ominously as he swung it down with all his might, aiming to finish what they had started.

Keeirishika, still reeling from Josh's surprise attack, barely had time to react. "No! You will not defeat me!" she screeched, her voice filled with desperation, as she formed her tendrils into a shadowy arm. But it was too late. Grath's weapon connected with her side, the radiant light slicing through the dark. The impact sent a shockwave through the plaza, scattering debris and sending a ripple of energy that momentarily silenced the chaos around them. Keeirishika staggered, her form flickering as the light of Grath's blade cut through her shadowy essence. The tendrils that had once coiled protectively around her began to unravel, dissipating into wisps of darkness that were swallowed by the light.

Josh seized the opportunity, his heart racing as he sprinted forward, adrenaline coursing through his veins. "Now! While she's vulnerable!" he urged, his eyes locked on Keeirishika, who was struggling to maintain her form. The shadows around her writhed in agony, as if they were alive and protesting the loss of their mistress.

Grath, emboldened by the success of his strike, pressed the attack. He swung his weapon again, this time aiming for the heart of the darkness that was Keeirishika. "You think you can escape the light?" he bellowed, his voice echoing with determination. "You've terrorized this place long enough! Kness is like a beacon. Keeirishika, sensing the shift in the air, turned just in time to see Josh's blade descending. "No! You cannot—" she began, but the words were lost in a gasp of shock as the sword connected with her neck. The radiant light of the blade illuminated the darkness, and for a brief moment, the plaza was bathed in a brilliant glow.

The impact was decisive. Josh's sword sliced cleanly through the shadowy form of Keeirishika, severing her head from her body in a single, fluid motion. Time seemed to freeze as her decapitated form staggered, the tendrils of darkness that had once been her strength now swirling in disarray. A moment later, her body collapsed to the ground, the shadows dissipating like smoke in the wind.

A hush fell over the plaza, the chaos momentarily stilled as the realization of their victory washed over the onlookers. Grath stood beside Josh, breathing heavily, his weapon still glowing with the remnants of its power. "We did it," he said, disbelief mingling with triumph in his voice.

Josh lowered his sword, his heart pounding in his chest. "We did," he replied, a grin breaking across his face. But even as they celebrated their victory, he felt a twinge of unease. The shadows that had once coiled around Keeirishika were now swirling in the air, as if searching for their lost mistress.

Josh blinked in disbelief as the notifications flooded his mind, the words echoing in the back of his consciousness. Level 84. It felt surreal, a testament to the battle they had just fought and the power they had gained. He glanced at Grath, who was still catching his breath, the glow of his weapon slowly fading. But he hurriedly dismissed it because he needed to find Kieth. As he dashed forward the alley where he last saw the silhouette of Kieth.

"Grath, on me. Princess Lyra, heal the wounded. Keriel, survey the area. Sir Aleric, gather all the captives and soldiers that can move and fight. Post them at the gates and important areas. Lariel, help the princes," Josh ordered.

The urgency in Josh's voice propelled Grath into action, his instincts honed by countless battles. They sprinted down the narrow alley, the remnants of the plaza's chaos echoing behind them. The air was thick with the scent of smoke and the remnants of dark magic, but Josh's focus remained unwavering. He had to find Kieth.

As they turned the corner, the alley opened up into a small courtyard, littered with debris and the remnants of the battle. Shadows flickered in the corners, remnants of Keeirishika's dark essence still lingering in the air. Josh's heart raced as he scanned the area, searching for any sign of his friend. But he smells a very familiar smell. "Wait a sec," as he pauses and sniffs it and his eyes widen. What is it, sir hero? Something wrong? Do I stink? We—" As he is about to complain about their lack of proper baths, Josh stops him and sniffs it again to confirm.

"Wait a minute, this is nitroglycerin?! And fuel oil?! Josh's mind raced as he pieced together the implications of the scents wafting through the air. Because this combination can create a bomb and it's from their original world, which means this is Kieth's doing. So this massive destruction is made by Kieth's summoned weapons. Man, the guy became more and more stronger day by day," he murmured to himself. Grath moved closer to him and tried to smell the same thing as Josh sniffing. "Well, this is blurrweee. The fuck is this smell?!" Grath complained, and Josh just narrowed his eyes because Grath picked the ash of the demon Kieth fought, not the nitroglycerin.

Josh shook his head, trying to clear the fog of confusion that had settled over him. "Grath, focus! Kieth is here somewhere, and if he's using nitroglycerin and fuel oil, it means he's fighting something, but he managed to escape, and this, tsk, is seriously wounded. We need to find him before it's too late; he's losing too much blood by the looks of it," he said, pointing at the pool of blood and paw prints leading to the large crack in the wall.

Grath nodded, his expression shifting from confusion to determination. "That's right, sir hero, that's impressive that you figured it out so quickly." As they quickly move and follow the paw prints left by Kieth's companion as they walk into the forest, Josh notices that someone found them and takes them as he kneels down and observes the footprints.

"Keith, please be safe. I know you're safe. As he stepped on a giant rock at the cliff.

Meanwhile at the capital, a few hours after Josh left with them. The air was thick with tension as the capital's defenders scrambled to hold their ground against the relentless onslaught of the demon forces. The once-bustling streets were now a battleground, filled with the sounds of clashing steel, the cries of the wounded, and the ominous roars of the demons that surged forward like a dark tide.

"Archers, fire!" the human general barked, his voice cutting through the chaos. A volley of arrows soared into the sky, their tips glinting in the fading light before raining down upon the advancing demons. Some arrows found their marks, embedding themselves in the thick hides of the monstrous creatures, but many were deflected by the dark magic that surrounded the four demon kings (the demon king of the north, Aamon the demon king of carnage; the demon king of the south, Azazel the demon king of cruelty; the demon king of the west, Astaroth the demon king of fury; and last, the strongest demon king of the east, Mephistopheles, the demon king of incarceration).

"Sir, we cannot hold them off much longer! Please, you must escape now!" Cain urged, his voice strained with urgency. The noblemen and women, their faces pale with fear, exchanged glances, weighing their options as the relentless tide of demons surged forward.

"We don't have much time, ma'am/sir; all of them are here now; please leave!" Vismond added as he continue give all of his companion a healing and divine buffs, his voice rising above the din of battle. The desperation in his tone was palpable, and the gravity of their situation hung heavy in the air.

Caine, a fierce Devine gladiator with a reputation for bravery, fought alongside his comrades, slicing through the ranks of demons with a ferocity that inspired those around him. His great sword glimmered with a radiant light, a stark contrast to the darkness that surrounded them. With each swing, he carved a path through the chaos, but even he could feel the weight of the overwhelming numbers pressing in.

"We can't abandon our people!" Cain shouted, his voice filled with determination. "We fight for them! We fight for all; we will leave no one!!" He parried a demon's strike, the clash of metal ringing out as he pushed back against the onslaught. "No! Not today, fuckers!" he says as he uses his skill, hero strike.

The ground trembled beneath Caine's feet as he unleashed his Hero Strike, a powerful blow that sent shockwaves through the ranks of the demons. The radiant energy surged from his sword, illuminating the darkened battlefield and momentarily pushing back the tide of monstrous foes. Demons were thrown aside like ragdolls, their howls of rage mingling with the cries of the defenders.

"Keep pushing! We can't let them breach the gates!" Caine shouted, rallying his comrades. The defenders, fueled by his bravery, surged forward, their resolve hardening in the face of despair. They fought with renewed vigor, each swing of their weapons a testament to their determination to protect their home.

But the demons were relentless. They regrouped quickly, their dark magic swirling around them like a storm. The air crackled with energy as the demon kings, towering figures of malice and power, stepped forward, their eyes glowing with a sinister light. The defenders faltered for a moment, fear creeping into their hearts as they faced the embodiment of their nightmares.

"Fuck!" Cain cursed because one of the four demon kings landed in front of them, destroying the ceiling. And his system notification pops up.

Emergency alert!

Emergency Quest has arrived!!!

First quest (rating: ???): Help the kings and queens of all six nations escape, especially the emperor!

Second quest: (rating ???) Escape the kingdom alongside the other heroes, alive.

Failure to complete the quest will result in all five heroes deaths.

The air crackled with tension as the demon king loomed over the defenders, a hulking mass of shadow and malice. Caine's heart raced as he felt the weight of the emergency quest notification pressing down on him. The stakes had never been higher, and the urgency of the situation ignited a fire within him.

"Listen up!" Caine shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. "We have two objectives: protect the nobles and ensure their escape, and fight our way out of this hellhole! We can't let them take our home! This is our home now, so we will fight for it!" His words rallied the defenders, igniting a spark of hope amidst the despair.

The demon king, a grotesque figure with jagged horns and eyes that burned like embers, let out a roar that shook the very ground beneath them. "Foolish mortals! You think you can defy the demon lord? Well, I admire your bravery, dear heroes, but let me be the one who will bear the bad news for you!" The demon's voice was a chilling echo, sending shivers down the spines of even the bravest warriors. As Cain and the others glance at each other, the demon continues talking. One of your strongest fighters is dead. He fell victim to one of our mere lieutenants because he wanted to save the dwarven people while wounded, and while he himself cannot save his own, it is a very human thing to do."

The demon king's words hung in the air like a death knell, a cruel reminder of the sacrifices made in the heat of battle. Caine's heart sank at the thought of losing one of their own, but he quickly steeled himself against the despair threatening to creep in. "We will not let his sacrifice be in vain!" he shouted, his voice rising above the din of battle. "We fight for him, for all of us! We will not back down!"

"Hahahahaha, alright then, let's play. If you braves can land a hit on me even once, I'll let you escape. I mean all of you. Good, right? It sounds like a good deal, right, for you humans?"

The demon king's laughter echoed through the battlefield, a chilling sound that sent shivers down the spines of the defenders. Caine's grip tightened around his sword, his resolve hardening in the face of the taunt. "I don't believe you!" he shouted, rallying his comrades. "You are twisted in nature and cannot be trusted; you are all evil incarnate!"

The demon king's laughter faded, replaced by a sinister grin that revealed rows of jagged teeth. "Ah, but you see, brave mortal, I thrive on your defiance. And why win a war when the outcome is already decided? So how about we play more? It's no fun if we just kill you all here and now, right? But fear not, humans! Because I, AZAZEL THE DEMON KING OF CRUELTY, am giving you my word that I will not lay a hand on you if you do land even a tap on my foot. How about it, brave human?"

Caine's heart raced as he processed the demon king's taunt. The audacity of Azazel was infuriating, but beneath the bravado, Caine sensed a deeper malice. The demon king was toying with them, and the stakes were higher than ever. "We won't fall for your tricks, Azazel!" he shouted, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him. "We will fight, and we will win!"

"Heh, how boring. Can't you see we already conquered this land? Only you and the few million of your troops are left, so why bother fighting to the death when you have an obvious escape? I'm offering you a way out, because even if you escape now and regroup, it won't matter; we already won this war."

Caine's grip on his sword tightened as he faced Azazel, the demon king's mocking words echoing in his mind. The weight of despair threatened to crush him, but he refused to let it show. "Alright, then let them go first if your words hold weight," he asks as he gives a nod to his friends. Because they have no choice.

Azazel's grin widened, revealing the sharp, glistening teeth that seemed to mock the very essence of hope. "Ah, a wise choice, brave human! Very well, I shall grant your request but I'll have the emperor as a collateral." Azazel said with a wide grin and vismond lose his temper but Cain stops him and said. "Just wait let him talk ,while I'll think about how to rescue the emperor and our escape." Cain whisper and Azazel just continue his talking."But remember, the moment you step outside these walls, the true nature of this world will reveal itself. You may find that escape is not as simple as you think."

With a wave of his hand, the demon king summoned a portal of swirling shadows, its edges crackling with dark energy. The air around it felt heavy, oppressive, as if the very fabric of reality was bending to Azazel's will.

"But remember, if you don't land any hits in 5 minutes, I'm going to kill all three of you heroes." Caine's heart raced as he stared at the swirling portal, the weight of Azazel's words hanging heavily in the air. The demon king's laughter echoed in his ears, a chilling reminder of the stakes they faced. He glanced at his comrades, their expressions a mix of determination and fear. They had fought valiantly, but now they were being offered a way out, albeit under the most twisted of circumstances. As the emperor Vlad stepped into the portal, he murmured something.
