Chapter 4 - They're even worse

Yejun's brain was still on overload. His father, a dark wizard? Someone trying to kill him? None of it made sense. Magic was still a joke to him, no matter how much Chandra and Doyun tried to convince him.

"Wait, wait, wait," Yejun finally managed, his voice rough. "So, you're saying I'm supposed to believe in this... magic world, and that some dude wants to kill me 'cause of my dad?"

Chandra didn't flinch. "That's exactly what I'm saying."

Yejun shot Doyun a glance, looking for some kind of confirmation. But Doyun was still cool and unfazed, like he'd heard all of this a hundred times before.

"Why is everyone so calm about this?!" Yejun snapped, his frustration finally bubbling over. "We're talking about a guy who wants to murder me—me!—and you're acting like it's just a Tuesday morning!"

Chandra gave him an exasperated look, as if she'd been through this with too many people already. "You don't get it, do you? This is just how things work around here. The magic world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. It's full of dark shit—things you can't even begin to imagine. People like your dad? They don't go out quietly. And those who come after them? They're even worse."

Yejun couldn't process it. His dad? A dark wizard? He'd never heard anything like that growing up. Sure, his mom was a mess and never really talked about his dad, but dark wizard? That sounded straight out of some fantasy novel.

"What the hell are we even supposed to do now?" Yejun muttered, feeling like the ground beneath him was shifting, his footing unstable.

Doyun finally spoke, his tone nonchalant as always. "We get ready for whatever comes next, obviously. Magic world's dangerous, and the people in it? Worse."

Chandra shot Doyun a sharp look. "Not helping."

"Well, what else do you want me to say?" Doyun shot back, shrugging.

Yejun stared at both of them, a scowl forming. "This is bullshit. I don't even know where to start with all this." He ran a hand through his hair, trying to shake off the confusion clouding his mind.

"You start by understanding that you have no choice but to face it," Chandra said, her voice suddenly colder. "The world you thought you knew isn't real anymore. You're in the magic world now, and whether you like it or not, you belong here."

Yejun wasn't sure what he expected from her, but that wasn't it. It sounded like she wasn't just trying to explain things to him—she was warning him, preparing him for something worse.

He wanted to argue, wanted to deny it all, but the weight of her words sank in. He was here now. There was no going back.

"So, what now?" Yejun asked, his voice suddenly quieter, more defeated.

Chandra turned her gaze to the window, watching the street below. "Now, we figure out why someone wants you dead. And we stop them before it's too late."

Doyun looked over at Yejun. "But first, we need to get you prepared. This world? It's not forgiving."

Yejun could feel his heart race again. For a moment, it almost felt like the world was closing in on him. But he refused to show any fear. He wasn't going to be scared. Not yet, anyway.

"Alright, let's do this then," Yejun said, straightening up. "But if anyone thinks I'm going down without a fight, they've got another thing coming."

Doyun gave him a quick glance, the faintest smirk on his lips. "That's the spirit. But be careful, Yejun. This place will chew you up if you're not careful."

"Yeah, yeah," Yejun shot back, trying to ignore the chill creeping up his spine. "I'm not some idiot."

Chandra's eyes glinted with something dark. "We'll see."
