'How's this possible?'
Vander's was seated right next to the "window" of the train. Even though the train didn't look like it had windows from the outside, this window had to have some sort of camouflage property on the outside.
When the train left the city, and its giant walls, Vander had a good view of the city he grew up in. For the first time in his life, he saw the city from the outside. Fluxis city had a giant fifty feet tall wall surrounding the perimeter of the city. It also had a mana shield protecting the sky's of the city, making it look like a blue dome.
"This is our first time leaving the city Alice, I can't wait to see life outside of Fluxis city. No more baking bread or pastries for little money, we can earn more by being official heroes."
"I know right. Being official heroes would improve my family's financial situation. But I also can't wait to see high ranked superheroes. Since Fluxis is a minor city, they never had a single high ranked hero there. Since the Moridrange is a middle city, there probably will be a high ranked hero there right?"
"Of course, Moridrange university is a ranked school, one of the top 100 schools in the world. Being a ranked university, the school's principal is probably even an elite superhero. A hero ranked in the top 1000."
After talking about the university for a minute, Alice took a nap on Vanders shoulder. Being a 6 hour ride she wanted to get some rest.
Looking out the window, Vander saw the "Borderlands." The dangerous land between cities, unprotected and filled with monsters. The "Borderlands" was mostly barren, but sometimes there would be ruins of small towns.
Vander would see packs of different kinds of common monsters sometimes. The largest group of monsters Vander saw was a tribe of goblins. Goblins are small, green, humanoid monsters that have sharp teeth. Some goblin tribes can even use tools and weapons. These goblins took over the ruins of a town just a couple miles up ahead. Goblins are really weak, but they make it up with their numbers. Vander couldn't count how many goblins there were because of the distance, but the green color of goblins covered the ruins. But that wasn't taking into account the goblins that could be in the destroyed buildings.
Outside the ruined city, Vander spotted some sort of black sea. The black sea was miles long and it looked like it was moving.
"Attention passengers, please brace yourselves. We are executing an emergency stop. Please remain seated." The conductor announced over the intercom and soon after the train stopped.
Distracted by the announcement, Vander looked back at the ruins and realized the ruins were gone. He couldn't see the green of the goblins, but a sea of darkness. The black sea devoured everything and it was heading to the train next.
"Alice, Alice, Wake up. There's a monster wave heading this way."
Waking up Alice, they both looked out the window wondering how they were going to get through a monster wave.
When the monster wave was less than a mile away, they were able to identify what kind of monster it was. The wave was made up of Gloomice, giant mice with pitch black fur. A weak common monster that always traveled in groups.
"There's now way these Gloomice started a monster wave. They're the weakest monster in the Borderlands, and aren't they usually scavengers. There has to be a rare monster commanding them." Vander knew something was strange with the wave, and Alice agreed.
A bolt of lightning was shot from the front of the train. Most likely from the turret above the first coach. The bolt vaporized thousands of Gloomice, stopping the wave in its tracks for a couple seconds. More bolts of lightning were being fired, vaporizing more and more Gloomice, but that didn't stop them from advancing.
Three people exited the train when the wave didn't stop. Two male, one female. The female stayed behind while the other two charged at the monster wave. The female shot out mist from her hands, freezing all the Gloomice it touched, creating an ice wall of Gloomice. The two males started to fly. One of them started flying by shooting flames from his hands and feet. While the other transformed into a giant bird.
The female had the perfect power to defend the train. She froze the monsters, and used them to create a wall that slowed the wave down. This gave time to the two who flew towards the middle of the monster wave. They found the rare monster that initiated the monster wave in the middle. Fire balls, and air blasts were being rained down for a couple of minutes. Once they stopped firing, the monster wave started to disperse.
The two heroes that were flying started to descend. Flying down towards the area they attacked. Once they were there, they retrieved the corpse of giant Gloomice and flew back towards the train. The corpse of the Gloomice was three times bigger than any other Gloomice that attacked, and its tail had a purple aura to it.
Once all three heroes were on board the train, the intercom rang.
"Please remain in your seats, the train will enter hover mode."
Because of the monster wave attack, some parts of the train tracks were destroyed. All trains are outfitted with a hover mode for this reason, but this lowered the speed of the train by 50%. The train flew through the air until the tracks ahead were intact.
Nothing else exciting happened during the train ride.
…
Vander woke up, his head laying on top of Alice's head, while she was laying her head on his shoulder. Looking out through the window he saw many mountains. The mountain range went as far as he could see.
"Alice, wake up. We're here."
Because of the never ending mountain range, Vander concluded they were near Moridrange University City.
