I looked at the elevator door from a few feet away. It's not like the thing came with a instruction manual on how to open it.
Worst yet, there wasn't a button on the side like the elevators I was used to.
I walked up to it wondering if it was motion activated, but the door didn't budge. In fact if it wasn't for the fact the door stands out under the moonlight I wouldn't have noticed it.
The color of the wood was just slightly altered compared to the rest of the tree. Making the door almost impossible to notice.
But the moonlight reflects off of it at a certain angle. Had I not been walking in the right place at the right time I could have walked right past it.
I looked again at the stump next to the tree with the stick and the broken pieces.
I wasn't sure what would work, however I knew I had to try something.
I went to pick up the stick and before I could I heard an odd rumbling sound.
The elevator was coming up!!!!
I quickly ran around the side of the tree and ducked down. I had been extra careful with my footsteps to ensure I didn't make noise.
Now would be a terrible time to step on a branch or a leaf.
-Ding-
The elevator made a quiet dinging sound and I could hear the door opening.
A man stepped out, he was wearing a labcoat under another coat that he was zipping up quickly.
"Ah, another successful day at work. Boss man has really been giving me a hard time lately." He pulled out a bottle of water and began heading away from the elevator.
However I needed to get in there. I snuck towards the side of the tree just in time to see a gate blocking the entrance to the elevator.
It had needed some kind of passcode to function properly.
As the door closed to the elevator I immediately grabbed the man slamming his head on the ground and placing my blade to his throat.
"What's the code?" I asked nonchalantly. I could let him live as long as he didn't see my face.
"I'm not telling you anything! He'll kill my whole family!" The man screamed at me, tears began streaming down his face.
However I was unfazed, they were experimenting on students after all.
"If you won't be useful I'll kill you now. If you take a chance your family might still make it out alive." I threatened him, using his love for his family as my bargaining chip.
I needed the way in, and this was it. If I couldn't get him to cooperate I would be all out of options.
"Fine! 2673 the code is 2673!!!! Now please let me go!!!!" He was looking towards a certain direction often. I looked over to see why and noticed there was another ill-placed tree.
Maybe it was an underground passage so he wouldn't be seen. Maybe it was another elevator, either way he wouldn't make it there.
"Thank you, rest assured your family will be fine without you." I smiled staring into his eyes as I spoke. His eyes widened realizing I never had any intention of letting him live.
"NO PLEASE WAIT!!!!" I slid my dagger through his abdomen right under the fifth rib, piercing his heart.
Then I left his body there. By the time they found it, I will already have saved Brax from whatever schemes they cooked up.
I typed the code in and entered the elevator.
It was a simple elevator with 2 buttons.
Up or Down.
I clicked down and waited patiently as I descended into the depths of the ground.
A few minutes later I heard a ding and slid to the side to hide.
I didn't know what waited for me on the other side of those doors.
Better to be safe than sorry.
The doors opened and nothing happened. No one walked in neither did anyone peek in and check.
I poked my head out the elevator seeing a bright white hall extending outward in front of me. In the distance I could see the entrance to other halls that seemed to run horizontally into this one.
I stepped out and began moving forward.
Slowly and carefully I advanced deeper into the lab I had found myself in.
I heard screaming and peeked into a room only to see another student being tortured.
'They were using dead students to conduct these experiments. So how the hell were they bringing them badk to life?'
I quietly questioned just how many secrets Principal Warren had as I continued to move in search of Brax.
I came upon a segment where the lab split off in all directions.
I looked around quickly and noticed there was a gate at the end of one of the corridors.
A sign on it that was hardly readable said the word prison on it.
Immediately I knew if they had Brax he was most likely in a cell of their design.
I ran down the hall aiming to be as quick as possible however I was intercepted by something faster.
It pushed me to the ground and then stood there, basking in the aura it gained from that attack.
"We've been expecting you, Kamelio." The man before me said eerily without taking his eyes off me.
I recognized him immediately, this was the same man I saw on the cameras. Speeding past students without even alerting them of his presence.
Would I even have noticed him if he didn't push me?
"Then I don't need to explain why I'm here, give me back Brax and I'll leave peacfully." I refused to back down from this fight. I came here to save Brax, I wouldn't fail now.
"You wanna talk now Kamelio? The time to talk has long since passed us." He began movi rapidly again.
I braced myself expecting a punch at any second but it never came. I tried to run forward and he suddenly hit me.
I stumbled but caught my balance and pulled my daggers I refused to lose here.
I looked around, unable to pinpoint the man's location, so I began running for it. As I ran I could hear rapid footsteps behind me.
I had to do something or this would go badly for me.
I listened closely trying to time my attack for when he was close.
If I could get an attack off just before he was in arms-length I could kill him and keep moving easily.
He would run into whatever attack I use do to the speed at which he was moving.
I mean I'm a demon assassin, but he was still much faster than even I was.
As I ran the length of hallway I had left was dwindling, however he still wasn't close enough. He was almost there, but the timing had to be perfect.
One second
Two seconds
Three seconds
I quickly threw 6 throwing knives behind me. All aimed at general direction of the man who was chasing me.
I stopped hearing the footsteps almost instantly and instead I watched him trip and slide across the floor.
I walked over to him and ran my sword through him to ensure he passed on.
Not all heroes wore capes. Neither were they all unwilling to kill. Although I could hardly call myself a hero, I knew when to eliminate a dangerous enemy.
I then continued running forward towards those prison gates I had seen before.
"Kamelio!!!!!!! Kamelio im in here!!!! Come back!!!!" I stopped and backtracked a little after hearing someone calling me.
I recognized the voice immediately, it was Brax.
I opened the door and propped it open just in case it auto-locks.
"Let's get you out of here." I said but suddenly something pricked the back of my neck.
I pulled it out and noticed it was a dart of some sort. I looked back at Brax and saw he was laying there.
However I knew he wasn't dead, but sleep because he was snoring loudly.
My eyes grew heavy and I fell to the floor. As I began to drift off I saw none other than Principal Warren walking in.
I was looking for Brax, and I found him. But it seems I had also fallen into the principal's trap.
