Marissa was soon informed about the deaths of the guards and Rose's escape. A chill spread through her—this twist was the last thing she'd expected.
She was not expecting this twist to happen, and she was beyond shocked.
"What will you do Marissa? Who knew Rose possessed that sort of power within her?" Bethany asked, fiddling with her fingers.
The news came as a shock to her as well, and she wondered what would happen seeing that Rose was free.
Since she had no qualms escaping from the cell and killing the guards, then no one was safe with her free.
"I don't know, from the looks of things, dad won't let me out of the pack, I wonder how Bryce is taking it, we are meant to leave for his pack tomorrow," Marissa replied, pacing around in the room.
Bethany frowned. If Marissa couldn't leave the pack, how could she become Luna? She hoped Alpha Kain would reconsider his decision.
"You seem quite calm," Bethany commented, looking at Marissa who had already taken a seat.
"Do I?" Marissa asked with a chuckle.
"Of course, I was expecting you to panic just the same way I am panicking," Bethany replied, and this caused Marissa to chuckle even more.
"I did panic, but then I realised, panicking won't get us anywhere, we only need to think of ways to protect ourselves," Marissa explained, and Bethany nodded, accepting her logic.
"Maybe you can convince your dad to let you go to Alpha Bryce's pack, anywhere apart from here is safe," Bethany suggested with pouted lips. She was thoroughly scared thinking of what Rose was capable of.
Marissa didn't say anything, but she hoped her dad would reconsider his decision.
____________
Bryce knocked at Alpha Kain's office. He needed to speak with him, and perhaps ask him to reverse his decision concerning Marissa.
"Come in," Alpha Kain's tired voice sounded, and Bryce walked in.
"It's you," Alpha Kain said as he watched Bryce walk into the office.
"I would love to speak with you --- alone," Bryce requested, placing heavy emphasis on the last word.
Alpha Kain gave Bryce a deep look, before glancing at his beta who took the cue, and immediately left the office.
"Have a seat, what would you like to talk about?" Alpha Kain asked, taking a deep look at Bryce who had his seat.
"I wanted to talk to you about your decision today," Bryce stated, staring straight into the Alpha's eyes.
"Which one? I made so many, I have lost count," Alpha Kain smiled cryptically.
He obviously knew what Bryce was talking about. Only Marissa could cause Bryce to speak with Alpha Kain.
Bryce closed his eyes for a while. He had no idea why the Alpha was trying to get on his nerves, but he knew he could not lash out.
He still didn't have a good relationship with the Alpha, and one wrong move from him could make Alpha Kain decide not to grant his request.
"I wanted to ask you to rethink your decision about Marissa, if you decide for her to not leave the pack, there is no way we will crown her as the Luna in my pack," Bryce started as he looked at Aloha Kain, hoping the latter would see reason with him.
Alpha Kain remained silent, his piercing eyes were on Bryce who had a determined look on his face.
"As expected, this is what you wanted to ask about," Alpha Kain scoffed, closing the file in front of him.
"You of all people should know that the situation is dangerous, and Marissa isn't safe here," Alpha Kain sighed.
"And what makes you think your pack is the safest place for her? Rose has spent her entire life in your pack, she must surely have her own ways of entering, or she might even have a spy working for her, breaking out the cell is one of the examples."
Bryce's words made sense, but Kain wanted to delude himself into believing his pack was the safest place for his daughter.
Part of him didn't want his daughter to leave him, and the other part wanted his daughter to be safe. He knew within him that his daughter would not be safe if she remained in his pack.
Bryce could see that the Alpha was already wavering. He only needed to play his final card.
"I assure you that my pack is safe, Rose hasn't been there, she won't be able to find Marissa there, let Marissa follow me to my pack, and also, my pack needs its Luna," Bryce pleaded with a subservient tone.
This was the first time Alpha Kain would see Bryce pleading. It made him realise how much Bryce truly cared for his daughter.
"Promise me that you will protect my daughter, you won't let any harm come to her, she is the only one I have after her mother died," Alpha Kain pleaded, showing a rare sight of weakness.
Bryce nodded. Even without being told, he knew what he had to do.
"You do not need to tell me about this, she is my mate, and I will make sure she is well protected, you can also visit her if you miss her," Bryce suggested.
Although Alpha Kain had not agreed on letting Marissa leave, Bryce knew that it was only a matter of time before he agreed.
Alpha Kain's face brightened. Since Bryce had suggested that he could visit his daughter anytime he missed her, he would make use of that privilege.
"Alright then, I will inform Marissa that she can leave with you whenever you are ready, again, my daughter shouldn't feel left out," Alpha Kain pleaded one more time.
"I assure you Alpha, and I'm sure Marissa is a strong lady, she would not tolerate nonsense," Bryce was confident, and Alpha Kain was relieved.
__________
"Marissa, I would love to speak with you," Alpha Kain knocked at his daughter's door.
"You can come in dad," Marissa replied as she watched her dad walk in.
"I will take my leave," Bethany, seeing that they were about to have a discussion, and she observed that the Alpha's face was tight with worry, decided to leave the room for them.
But before leaving, she gave a reassuring smile to which Marissa returned.
"Have a seat dad, you do not need to be courteous," Marissa chuckled as she gestured to the sofa in the room.
Alpha Kain took a seat, letting out a sigh as he looked at his daughter who was all grown up.
"I'm sure you are aware of what is happening, and what my decision was," Alpha Kain started, his eyes hovering her face, wanting to see what her reaction would be.
Marissa nodded while maintaining eye contact with him.
"I've watched you grow up, and it hurts that I have to let you go, but I can't stop you from being with your mate, especially when it is safer there, so I have decided that you can go with Bryce," Alpha Kain informed her.
Marissa's eyes widened, her lips parting as well. She wasn't expecting her dad to change his decision.
A wave of relief washed over her knowing her father had decided to let her go. But the anxiety which was at the back of her mind returned as she wondered what would happen from here on.
