The air in the attic room was stuffy, dusty, and silent. Only relying on a small window to illuminate this dim room. During twenty years of living in this luxurious house, Serena was only given an attic room. In fact, all the clothes she has worn so far are her stepsister's old clothes which are worn and damaged.
As a result of yesterday she ran away on the day Lariette died, now she will not be given food for a week. How can she survive without eating, without drinking, and sleeping in a small bed? Was her adoptive family now indirectly killing her?
Opening a drawer filled with various sedatives and medicines for satiety, Serena felt that her life was now truly meaningless. Especially Lariette, her loving sister, no longer accompanies her, now she has to rely on who can save her from hell?
Suddenly a crazy idea crossed her mind. Is the only way to be free from this hell is to marry her brother-in-law? However, based on evidence she obtained from an anonymous person, her brother-in-law was the murderer. Since she was contacted by the anonymous person, she has become increasingly curious about who the anonymous person really is who suddenly wants to reveal the truth behind Lariette's death. Serena tried to contact the anonymous in every way to ask to meet, but the anonymous never responded.
Serena thought critically for a moment. If she could see a piece of Lariette's memory of just kissing Asher, she could reveal Lariette's death without breaking a sweat. Seeing that her life was becoming more and more helpless day by day, she was now determined with her answer regarding Asher's proposal.
In the end, Serena took the initiative to contact Asher. Pressing Asher's contact, in less than five seconds it immediately connected.
"What are you calling me for?" Asher's voice sounded stern on the phone.
"Asher, I will marry you."
"After you thought for almost half a day, you finally came up with an answer."
"But, there are conditions. You have to save me now."
Having not heard a response from Asher, the phone call was immediately disconnected. Serena felt like she wanted to curse Asher for always acting without saying a word to her. Moreover, if she hasn't finished speaking, how can Asher know where she is now? Who does Asher have to save his future wife from?
Several hours had passed since contacting Asher, Serena was still trapped in the attic room staring at the sky using only a small window. At times like this, she still missed Lariette's warmth who always saved her. When Lariette was still alive, she always provided proper food for Serena.
Suddenly Serena heard Barbara's voice arguing with a man. Serena got out of bed weakly, then walked towards the bedroom door. She was curious who the man was?
At the same time, the bedroom door was forced open until the door handle was broken. Serena widened her eyes at the figure of her brother-in-law who was currently saving her. How could Asher know that his sister-in-law was locked up in the attic? In fact, only members of this family know this secret.
What made Serena even more shocked was that for the first time, Asher came to her and hugged her with a panicked expression. Is Asher acting so that his rescue mission will be successful?
"Are you okay, Serena?" Asher asked, stroking her head, gradually making Serena even more surprised.
Serena nodded. To be honest, she was still confused about what to answer to her brother-in-law who was suddenly acting sweet in front of her.
Asher turned around and looked at Barbara with a sharp gaze while holding Serena's hand. "What did you do to Serena?"
Barbara laughed psychopathically while folding her arms. "I was just teaching her a lesson because she ran away from home last night. She was very impudent on the day your wife died!"
"Serena didn't run away. She was with me yesterday. I asked her to go."
"What do you mean?"
The intense blue eyes staring at her made it difficult for Serena to swallow her saliva. That look seemed to complicate the matter.
"Serena and I are getting married."
"What?!"
Barbara's screams echoed throughout this big house, causing her father and mother to go straight to the attic room. The atmosphere is even more tense now because of the presence of two humans who do not deserve to be called humans. Serena felt like there was lightning striking from Asher's eyes at all the members of this demon family.
"What happened, Barbara? Why are you screaming?" Melda asked, looking at Barbara worriedly.
"Asher is going to marry Serena!"
Aaron and Melda immediately glared at Asher after hearing this surprising news. Moreover, they really didn't expect Asher to want to marry another woman, even though he had always been loyal to Lariette and would not marry another woman.
"Asher, is that true?" Aaron asked.
"Yes, Uncle. I am determined to marry Serena, because I love her."
Melda massaged her aching temples. "Why did you have to marry Serena? Even though there are still many other girls who are much more perfect than Serena? Then, don't you love Lariette so much that you don't want to get married again?"
Asher raised the corners of his lips confidently. "Can't I marry Serena?"
"No, I mean–"
"Is it because Serena isn't your biological daughter that I don't deserve to marry her?"
Aaron patted his former son-in-law's shoulder with a pitiful face. "Are you sure you will make Serena happy? Or are you sure Serena will make you happy? She still has many flaws, as my suggestion you should look for another woman who suits you."
Asher folded his arms while laughing evilly. "I thought you wouldn't approve of our engagement because Serena is not your biological daughter and you don't want to see her become the CEO's wife."
"This is for your own good, Asher. You won't be able to live happily if Serena can't make you happy."
"Then, have you guys made Serena's life happy all this time? Locking her up in the attic all this time in a dusty and uninhabitable condition."
