Chapter 13 - Strontian

(3rd Person POV)

On Oa, Sinestro and Hal Jordan stood before the Guardians. They had been brought back to Oa after Hal had notified the Guardians of what had transpired. His Power Ring had not more juice left, and he couldn't make it back on his own. He had been a Green Lantern for two years, but he understood that what happened on Korugar would not be brushed off. Not only had Sinestro used his power to suppress his own planet and achieve order in his Sector through force, but Hal was his pupil, albeit briefly, and didn't learn anything new. But that wasn't the only thing Hal noticed as he stood before the Guardians and felt their emotions.

"You have done well, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, Hal Jordan. We checked your flight. It wasn't an easy struggle, despite you making it seem like it. Congratulations."

"Thank you."

"We are aware of your skills and abilities, just as we are aware of how you frequently disobey the Prime Rule of all Green Lanterns. We Guardians created the Green Lantern Corps to help all planets that face untold peril. Yet you, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, violated our prime order. You refused to notify us when you discovered Sinestro's betrayal, instead choosing to confront him yourself. Not only that, but you refused to notify us simply to satisfy your ego in matters irrelevant to the security of the world. This is a serious breach of ethics, Green Lantern of Sector 2814 and in an ordinary case, it would result in a trial by peer and possible dismissal."

"You are judging me by my choice not to call you immediately and instead handle the situation myself, as I was taught. You can't be serious."

"Your inability to see your fault in this matter makes it all the worse. In view of what happened with former Green Lantern Sinestro, we are uncertain whether you haven't been manipulated and affected by the same or a similar mindset as he has."

Therefore, we have decided to temporarily suspend your use of the Power Ring until our investigation is concluded. The final verdict will be announced at the end of Oa's cycle."

"We understand that there are things you may need to get in order, so we grant you the generous gift of one Power Ring charging. That equals 24 hours of time for you to get back to your planet and make peace with your situation. That will be all."

Hal doesn't say anything for a moment. Someone else, or even a different version of Hal Jordan, would explode at this point, enraged that he was punished for simply being assigned Sinestro as a 'mentor'. But he doesn't. He can feel their true reason for stripping him of his ring; he can feel their fear. The true reason they do what they do is because they fear what he can do. In the two short years of being a Green Lantern, Hal didn't just become one of their effective Lanterns, but also defeated their most powerful member, Sinestro, without breaking so much as a threat. And they still remember how he managed to subdue, or at least challenge them, when he was on Oa the first time.

"You are a bunch of hypocrites."

"You dare!"

"How impudent."

"And that from a species like the humans."

"Reign in your tone, Hal Jordan of Earth."

First, you have appointed yourselves as both lawmakers and law enforcers, meaning no one in the galaxy is self-governing. You asserted the right to tell everyone what to do, everywhere, and to punish them with death, indefinite jail, or exile for breaking laws that were never validly imposed. You built genocidal Manhunters, lied to every member of the Corps about the weakness of the colour yellow and tortured and mutilated living test subjects for your personal experiments.

You are afraid of what I could potentially do and are punishing me prematurely. Fear dictates your actions and nothing more. So don't lie to me; I am far too smart for that."

The Guardians are outraged. They start to flare their powers in anger, but Hal is unimpressed. The only one who is impressed is Sinestro, but he can't speak.

"Your record is outstanding and can't be overlooked. You will be granted 24 hours to get your things in order, but that is it. Your lies have just cost you your last chance at redemption. You are hereby expelled from the Green Lantern Corps indefinitely!"

.

Hal floats above a dead planet somewhere in the universe. He had long ago chosen this planet for what he wanted to achieve, and while he knew the day would come, he hadn't expected it to arrive so soon. But he was ready. During his two years as a Green Lantern, he had studied extensively and experimented on himself and the Emotional Spectrum, ultimately devising a method to proceed. The solution to escaping the Guardian's rule. He wouldn't want to be controlled by them any longer, and he had noticed that his Power Ring was reaching its limit anyway. So, a new one had to be created. But this time, it had to be different, unlike what the Guardians created, unlike what anyone had ever seen.

Hal felt like Superman in a way. Constantly having to watch himself and make sure the cardboard world wouldn't break by stepping on the ground too hard. He had the same problem with his ring. He needed to be as efficient as possible because if he pushed too far and too hard, the Ring would break. Hal had created a form of Willpower scale when he trained on Oa the first time and gave the Guardians roughly 500 WP. Now, imagine having to restrict himself to using a maximum of 500 WP when he has infinite to spare and use. If he was anyone else, if he didn't have his essence that would protect himself from mental problems, he might have had tremendous problems keeping himself in check.

Hal lowers himself to the ground. He has chosen this planet for what he is about to do, as it may be the most crucial part of his new life in this perilous universe. He had been gifted with beyond-genius-level intellect and had tried to recreate the Super Soldier Serum from Marvel Comics. He had succeeded. It wasn't as hard as he thought it was, even if it probably wasn't the same as Dr. Eskrine created. Naturally, being a Captain America threat was ... alright, but not anything to be proud of, not in the DC Universe. So Hal went further.

The next step after the Super Soldier Serum was the Golden Sentry Serum. Hal had also managed to create a theory on how he would accomplish that. It was the Super Soldier Serum, but roughly 1 million times more powerful. It was insane what it could theoretically do, but Hal wasn't certain. And after thinking about it for a while longer, he came up with something different. It might not be as cool as more iconic heroes, like the Kryptonians, Viltrumites, Saiyans or the Sentry, but it was powerful and potentially, in Hal's case, far more powerful.

Hal focuses, and around him, his lab appears, with all the things ready as when he had left it. It didn't make sense to have everything where it was when he created the lab from scratch, but he willed it to be so, and therefore, it was. He walks to a special room and sees a body lying on one of two tables. As a comic fan, he knows this alien as a Strontian.

[Picture]

The Strontian race hail from the planet Strontia, which is part of the Shi'ar Empire. They are a humanoid, purple-skinned race with vast powers that surpass those of most other species in the galaxy. Gladiator of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard is a Strontian. What makes them so interesting to Hal especially is that Strontian abilities are greatly supplemented by their own belief in themselves, and faith in themselves and in their own magnanimously impressive abilities further emboldens their already impressive superpowers to new and splendiferous heights.

Strontians possess tremendous physical strength, the exact limits of which are unknown. They are some of the physically strongest beings to exist in the Universe, with even a single normal Strontian having the strength to decimate armies alone. Enhanced Strontians, such as Gladiator, have shattered planets with the force of their blows and can collapse entire stars with their level of strength. As stated, their strength level is dependent on their confidence; therefore, the more confident they are, the stronger they become.

What could be better for a Green Lantern than to have such a body?

So, how did Hal manage to acquire a Strontian who belongs to an entirely different Multiverse, the Marvel Multiverse, when he is located in the DC Multiverse? The truth is that the two Multiverses aren't as far apart as one might think, and Hal didn't cross over to the Marvel Multiverse. What he did was different. First off, Hal wrote down everything he knew about the Strontians and Kallark, AKA Gladiator, their strongest and most famous member.

Kallark is a Strontian who went through the Gladiator enhancement process. In addition to his natural abilities, this enabled him to survive in the vacuum of space and enhance his power levels. He was deemed to be an Alpha Plus by the Galadorian Spaceknight Ikon. Although he possesses superhuman physical traits, much of his power is psionic in nature. His name is literally a mashup of Kal-El and Clark, so the intention behind it is clear. And while his feats are quite inconsistent, as is usual with most comic characters, if one looks at what he has accomplished at his strongest, it becomes clear that he is one of the strongest, at least physically.

He has showcased numerous incredible displays of strength, including uprooting the entire Baxter Building during a clash with the Fantastic Four, shattering planets with his blows, easily defeating Colossus, knocking the Thing out in just two hits, deflecting Hyperion's punches with his palm, and ultimately knocking him unconscious through a severe effort that involved breaking his back. He even carved out one of Vulcan's eyes before rendering the Omega-level mutant unconscious. Kallark was noted for his ability to shift planets from their orbits and collapse stars. His strength was likened to that of the Hulk, and his son, Kubark, claimed to have seen Gladiator tear apart black holes. He also managed to contain an explosion powerful enough to devastate half the solar system. This act of containing the explosion, rather than simply enduring it, suggests that he exerted a considerable amount of strength. Furthermore, Kallark was recognised as a rival to Beta Ray Bill in terms of power, and Bill himself is comparable to Thor, whom Eternity considers a significant threat to a vast portion of the cosmic multiverse.

...

After he had done that, Hal began to develop a theory on how Strontian physiology could and most likely would function in the Marvel Multiverse and then how that might translate to the current one. More and more, he came closer to the truth, and eventually, he knew what to do. Hal created a storage device, similar to the Central Power Battery, which he used to store excess energy from the Green Electromagnetic Spectrum of Will. He knew that for what he wanted to do, he would need a lot of it, and if he wasn't limited in utilising his willpower, and if his ring could take it, he could do it right away, but it wasn't possible. After almost 18 months, Hal had collected enough energy to supplement the Ring's power and use his will to acquire what he wanted.

He willed for a dead body of a Strontian to appear in his laboratory.

This might sound simple, but the execution was beyond hard. Hal had to pass through the Source Wall, connect to the Marvel Multiverse, find an undamaged corpse of a Strontian, which had nearly been wiped out, and then have that corpse appear in his laboratory, located in another Multiverse entirely. Because he added so many more details about the Strontians, his own theory, and Kallark, he managed to do it. And here he was. He had researched everything there was to know about the STrontian biology and genetic material. He had created a method to give himself, as a human, the same abilities and powers.

And now? Now that the moment has arrived, where he will be without his Green Lantern ring, he will proceed with it and then focus on creating his own Power Ring later on. Because of what he wanted to do, he would need a body that could withstand it. Even if he had enough willpower to protect his body, he wanted to become a new being, and having a Strontian's powers will help tremendously.

This is not yet Multiverse Travel. I wasn't planning on doing that, but I was asked, and should enough people want that, I might consider it. Otherwise, there is more than enough plot to be found in the DC Universe.
