Chapter 4 - Asher Darwin & The system

'Damn, my head hurts so bad!'

The young man clutched his aching head tightly as he forced his eyes open to see where he was.

However, as he tried to open them, memories of what had happened before he lost consciousness quickly resurfaced in his mind, making him angrier with every passing second.

'Damn bastard!! He tricked me into accepting a mission I didn't know the full details of,' he thought angrily, which only intensified the pain.

But for some strange reason, the young man never cried out in pain; instead, he silently resisted it.

A few minutes passed after he woke up, and as the pain began to subside, the young man began to quietly open his eyes, revealing their unique dark purple color.

'Where is this place?...' The first thing the young man noticed was a large stone cavern surrounding him.

He slowly got up from the cold stone floor, but something felt strange about his body; it seemed to have changed, feeling slightly smaller than before.

'I don't remember being this muscular before, and my body wasn't this white...' He began examining his body, observing the changes until a belated realization came to his current situation.

'That bastard said something about possessing a random body.' After thinking about the person who had deceived him a moment ago, the young man's mood changed, becoming even more furious. However, he quickly calmed down, as that would only make matters worse.

All he could think about was finding a new way to survive in this world.

As he was examining the cave, he felt some pain on the left side of his chest. Since he was upper-body naked, a dark purple tattoo that glowed continuously caught his attention.

"What is this?" He wasn't sure if it was a tattoo specific to the body he had incarnated into, or if it was related to him.

As if he had been heard, the answer quickly appeared before his eyes.

[The slave mark has been sensed on the host's body]

[The host's bloodline is reacting strongly to the mark]

[The unique skill 'Devouring' has been used on the host's body]

Before the young man realized what was happening, he felt a heat throughout his entire body, and a black aura began to radiate from his body, centered around the mark.

In just a few seconds, the pain disappeared, and so did the tattoo on his chest. The young man also began to remember the existence of a system. After recalling that the Void Lord had said that only those with the bloodline could use the system, the young man finally felt some relief.

This simply meant that he had a bloodline, and since he could freely use it, it meant either that his body was strong enough to withstand two bloodlines, or that the bloodline belonged to the body. While he preferred the former, the latter was also fine.

"The system." The young man summoned the system, unsure whether this was the correct method. Fortunately, a transparent blue screen quickly appeared and floated before him.

"A nine-star bloodline, this should be good, according to that bastard." The young man, now called Asher Darwin, began evaluating his stats and skills, but didn't understand several things.

The first thing he noticed was that this person's level was high. Although he didn't know about talents in this world and their levels, level 46 meant he was training, which meant he had a bloodline.

The problem was, before losing consciousness, the current Asher saw that he had just awakened his bloodline, leaving him wondering where the second bloodline was.

'This is very annoying, but I think thinking about what I can't solve is just a waste of time and effort. I need both right now,' Asher thought seriously as he closed the screen in front of him, a little surprised that it was just a simple thought. Although Asher still couldn't fully control his power, he knew each skill, its properties, and how to use it properly, which helped him feel somewhat secure.

"Where should I go now?" He remembered that the Void Lord had said he would send him to a random location, but he didn't trust his words much, and he didn't know if he'd actually sent him to the location where the other people he'd summoned and turned into his slaves were.

"It would be dangerous to go out now, especially since I'm so ignorant of everything," he warned himself before heading in the opposite direction of what appeared to be the exit.

After only a few minutes of walking, the smell of blood and another foul odor began to waft through his mind, causing him to pause.

"I can't mistake the smell of blood and rotting corpses. There must be blood and corpses somewhere, which means danger too," he thought calmly. Although the smell of blood brought back old memories from his previous world, he quickly regained his senses.

He moved forward very cautiously. It was a bit dark, but Asher could see clearly in the darkness. 'I think it's because of that unique skill, "Eyes of the Abyss." Asher's unique skills were powerful and useful for his development, especially Devouring. Importantly, they could evolve with him, meaning they would have other, more powerful properties.

'Room?...' After advancing a little deeper, Asher saw a side room. The closer he got, the thicker the blood oozing from it became.

Asher didn't know what was inside, so he tried to slow down as much as possible to explore it.

{Eyes of the Abyss}

For the first time, Asher consciously used one of his skills. One of the properties of this unique skill was the ability to penetrate any barrier in front of him and see what lay beyond. Given his current situation, this was the perfect time to use it.

If anyone other than Asher had seen that sight, he would have immediately fainted. But for Asher, who saw thousands of corpses falling before him and blood everywhere, it was nothing.

After searching through the corpses, there was no one standing or appearing to be alive, so he entered.

He twitched cautiously, as there might be people alive in this place.

All the bodies here had been killed in roughly the same way. Asher saw through his dark purple eyes that their veins and hearts were bulging, along with some fatal internal wounds. Their skin was turning blue from the blood oozing from their bodies.

'This seems a bit harsh, but I think it has something to do with the Void Lord. He said something about finding a suitable vessel for himself, and apparently these are all failed experiments.' Although Asher felt sorry for these people, being the mere victims of a mad idiot.

However, Asher's expression didn't suggest this, as he seemed calm and collected despite the horrific scenes before him.

'I don't think there's anything here that can help me.' Asher searched for a weapon or something to help him locate him, but to no avail. They had all been looted before being dumped here.

As Asher contemplated a solution to his current problem, a weak, crackling voice brought him out of his thoughts.

"Da...r...win"
