Chapter 5 - Teacher, We've Understood!
"Didn't I say it last time? We should rebel! Konoha has already humiliated us so much. Are we supposed to keep tolerating it? If this continues, there will be no place for the Uchiha clan in Konoha!"
"Are you kidding? How can we rebel? The most important thing now is to talk things out with Konoha!"
"Bullshit! If we could talk it out, we would have done it already. Konoha wants the Uchiha clan dead!"
"I think your rebellion is just asking for death. You're already on the path to destruction!"
As soon as Uchiha Fugaku finished speaking, the meeting room erupted into fierce arguments.
The conservatives, led by Uchiha Tetsu, and the radicals, led by Uchiha Setsuna, were once again locked in a heated debate over whether to rebel or compromise.
Just like last time, Fugaku's eyes flashed with frustration.
These two factions had been arguing over various reasons, and neither could convince the other. In the end, Fugaku had decided to let them think it over and revisit the issue later.
But after the last meeting, it seemed they hadn't reached any conclusion. This time was no different.
Seeing that things were heading in the same direction as before, Fugaku felt a bit conflicted.
If this was how it was going to be, maybe it was better to just end the meeting and disperse.
Just like before—it wasn't a bad idea.
"Actually, I feel like the point of your argument is flawed."
Renji stood up and looked at the group. As soon as he spoke, the noise in the room instantly died down. Everyone turned to him in surprise, clearly not expecting him to speak up.
Although he had attended many meetings before, he had never spoken up during them, so most people tended to overlook him.
He didn't belong to any faction.
Now, after Renji spoke, all eyes were on him.
It seemed... he was about to pick a side?
"Renji, go ahead."
Fugaku's face showed a hint of warmth. He also valued this talented individual, much like his own son.
Right now, he was clearly struggling with how to handle the relationship between the Uchiha clan and Konoha, which was why he kept holding these clan meetings.
"I want to know, what exactly are you all fighting for?"
Renji had always been confused about one thing. After so many clan meetings, what exactly was the Uchiha clan striving for?
"What are we fighting for? Of course, it's peace!"
"Nonsense! A humiliating peace! We want equality! We want Konoha to treat us equally!"
"No! Why can't the Uchiha clan produce a Hokage?"
One side wanted peace, another wanted equality, and yet another wanted the position of Hokage.
One side said that peace was hard-won, another said that the Uchiha clan wasn't receiving the treatment they deserved, and yet another questioned why the Hokage position had always been held by the Senju lineage. Why couldn't the Uchiha clan, who co-founded Konoha alongside the Senju, have a shot at becoming Hokage?
Now, Konoha had always been led by the Senju lineage, while the Uchiha clan, once the top clan, had been pushed to the farthest corner of the village, with other ninjas keeping watch over them.
After listening to the arguments, Renji shrugged and said, "See? You can't even agree on what you want. How can you possibly reach a conclusion?"
They didn't even know what they needed, which clearly showed they were indecisive.
"So, what's your point?"
Uchiha Setsuna's eyes flashed with interest. It seemed like Renji had his own unique perspective?
"Ultimately, the reason the Uchiha clan has ended up like this is not just because of being targeted by certain people, but also because we've managed to offend too many others. The Konoha Military Police Force has pretty much alienated most civilians and civilian ninjas. In Konoha, the major clans don't want to associate with the Uchiha, and neither do the smaller clans. Now, even the civilians and civilian ninjas want nothing to do with us. How can our situation possibly improve?"
In short, the Uchiha clan's situation was dire. They were on the brink of annihilation, and not a single ninja stood up to speak for them. It was clear how disliked they were.
The major clans, by nature, were in competition with the Uchiha. Konoha was like a big cake—if the Uchiha took a large slice, others would get less. Naturally, they didn't want to associate with the Uchiha.
As for the smaller clans, the Uchiha's interactions with them were often marked by arrogance. Renji, being part of the Uchiha clan, knew how some members flaunted their ancestral glory, looking down on everyone with disdain. This naturally made them unpopular among other ninja clans.
As for civilian ninjas and civilians, they were the ones the Uchiha had consistently offended. In the Military Police Force, every decision made would satisfy one person but displease another. Over time, the Uchiha's reputation in Konoha had suffered greatly.
"The Military Police Force has brought us no real benefits. When the Second Hokage established it, it seemed like he was giving the Uchiha power, but it was actually a trap to push the Uchiha further away from the center of power.
You've been asking why the Uchiha can't produce a Hokage, right?
It's simple!!!! It's because we've managed to offend everyone. Who would support us for Hokage?"
His words were like a thunderclap, leaving everyone in a daze as they carefully considered each word Renji had spoken.
They understood!
Teacher, they've finally understood!
"So, teacher—I mean, Renji—you think we should rebel, right?"
Uchiha Setsuna had seen the light!
Renji was clearly advocating for rebellion!
He had always known Renji was a staunch radical!
Even though he had hidden it before, was he finally revealing his true colors?
"Are you out of your mind? Renji's clearly leaning toward our conservative stance! Sure, there's a bit of radicalism in his words, but he never said anything about rebelling!"
Uchiha Tetsu was immediately unsettled. He strongly disagreed with Setsuna's claim that Renji was a radical!
Renji's constructive suggestion was clearly about improving the Uchiha clan's relationships with other clans, civilian ninjas, and civilians in Konoha.
How could he possibly be a radical hawk?
"What did you say? You want to fight?"
"Bring it on! Who's afraid of you? You think we conservatives are made of rubber?!"
