Chapter 10 - He's a Radical, and He Got Elected?
"Fugaku, so you're no longer the clan leader?"
Upon returning home, Uchiha Fugaku informed Uchiha Mikoto about what had happened.
During the clan meeting, he had been removed from his position as the Uchiha clan leader, and Renji had taken over.
At first, Mikoto found it hard to believe. Even if Fugaku had stepped down, how could Renji, who was around the same age as Itachi, take his place?
"But Father hasn't done anything wrong! Why did they make him step down?!"
Uchiha Sasuke was indignant on behalf of his father.
In his eyes, his father hadn't done anything bad during his time as clan leader. Why had they forced him to step down?
"I'm sorry, Father. Is this because of me?"
Itachi's eyes flickered for a moment before he lowered his head, deep in thought.
The family dinner, which hadn't happened in a long time, now felt heavy with tension.
The news had shocked him. He hadn't expected the elders to join forces to remove his father from his position.
Within the clan, he believed his father had always been mediating the relationship between Konoha and the Uchiha. With the three factions in the clan, this shouldn't have happened.
If his father had been removed, did that mean Renji, who had taken over, was part of the radical faction?
Otherwise, why would they remove a dove or a moderate?
"Itachi, this isn't your fault. Don't overthink it. Renji simply said some things that resonated with most of the Uchiha, so they chose him."
Uchiha Fugaku shook his head. Deep down, he understood the situation.
It was simply that he couldn't find a solution, and the clan members had lost hope in him. Naturally, they chose someone else.
"I see..."
Itachi lowered his head and didn't say anything more.
However, he began to wonder what Renji had said to gain so much support.
Was war really on the horizon?
The thought made him tense. After finishing his meal quickly, Itachi stood up, using a mission as an excuse to leave.
"Big Brother, you said you'd train with me tonight!"
Sasuke puffed out his cheeks, glaring at Itachi, upset that he was breaking his promise.
Itachi had promised to train with him, but now he was leaving for a mission.
"I just remembered there's a mission I need to complete." Itachi paused, then crouched down, looking at Sasuke with a gentle expression. "I'm sorry, Sasuke. This is the last time. Forgive me. I'll train with you when I get back."
With that, Itachi tapped Sasuke lightly on the forehead.
"Ow!" Sasuke clutched his head, pouting. "That hurt!"
But when he looked up, Itachi was already leaving. Disappointed, Sasuke watched as Itachi glanced apologetically at Fugaku and Mikoto before walking away.
Watching Itachi's retreating figure, Mikoto couldn't help but feel worried. "Itachi, this child..."
"Trust him. He'll handle it."
Uchiha Fugaku placed a comforting hand on Mikoto's shoulder.
Itachi had always been so clever. He would surely find a way to resolve this.
"Let's not talk about this anymore. Let's finish our meal."
With Sasuke still at the table, Mikoto didn't want to dwell on the topic, though she couldn't help but worry about Itachi in her heart.
After leaving home, Itachi immediately sought out Shisui and informed him about what had happened within the Uchiha clan.
Currently, both of them had been ostracized by the Uchiha clan. Clan meetings and other important information were no longer shared with them.
If it weren't for Fugaku telling them everything, they would still be in the dark.
"Itachi, are you saying Renji might be part of the radical faction?"
After hearing the news, Shisui rubbed his forehead in frustration.
Initially, he had felt that Fugaku's inaction as clan leader had led to this situation.
But now, it seemed like having Fugaku in charge might have been better.
Even if he was inactive, at least he wouldn't directly confront Konoha.
"It's just a possibility. My father was somewhere between a moderate and a dove. While he could be assertive at times, he wasn't overly radical. So, if a new clan leader had to be chosen, it would likely be someone from the radical faction. What I don't understand is why the doves and moderates agreed to it."
Clearly, the moderates and doves had agreed, which was why Renji had taken over.
Otherwise, how could someone as young as Renji become clan leader?
This was what puzzled Itachi the most.
"If that's the case, should I use that to change his mind?"
Going to war with Konoha would be suicide.
Shisui had once considered changing Fugaku's mind to achieve peace.
But since Fugaku's views weren't too radical, he had given up on the idea.
"Let's report this to the Hokage first."
After some thought, Itachi sighed and spoke slowly.
He looked up at the sky, his eyes filled with worry. Why couldn't the Uchiha clan integrate into Konoha?
And now, it seemed they had given up on integration and chosen a radical leader instead.
"Tell the Hokage what?"
Shisui was confused.
They hadn't even confirmed whether Renji was truly part of the radical faction or not.
Going to the Hokage now seemed premature, especially since their conclusions were based on speculation.
"Let's inform the Hokage first. After that, we'll try to gauge Renji's stance. Hopefully, he's not a radical."
"True. If he is a radical, it could lead to the clan's destruction. Let's go talk to the Hokage first."
Shisui agreed wholeheartedly.
Danzo had previously stated that if the Uchiha clan rebelled, Konoha would not hesitate to act.
While the Uchiha clan was strong, they couldn't possibly match the entire village of Konoha.
That's why they had always tried to suppress the rise of the radical faction—they knew it would never succeed.
Hiruzen had given them time to resolve the issue.
So, they had always believed they were mediating the relationship between the village and the Uchiha clan.
Even if the Uchiha misunderstood them now, it didn't matter.
They believed that once the problem was solved, everyone would understand.
The two exchanged a glance, then donned their ANBU masks and left the Uchiha compound, heading straight for the Hokage's office.
"Shisui, Itachi, what brings you here so late? Is something urgent?"
