Chapter 8 - resolution(chapter 8)

Chapter 8

"Well, you haven't gotten the taste of it," Trevor said, as Sypha argued, "Let him be. Sex isn't everything." Levi sighed and said, "please Stop trying to make me feel better. It's only making me feel worse." He started to play his guitar slowly, not singing, just playing. Suddenly, he stopped. "Wait a minute. Why should I suffer for something I haven't done?" he asked aloud as they looked at him. "I mean, what have I done to be tortured like this? What sin have I committed?" His anger rose more and more. "You know what? That is it. I am going to get laid no matter what," he declared. Trevor said, "Amen to that," as Alucard chuckled while Sypha just sighed.

"Well, my standards are also high." Levi suddenly deflated as Alucard gave him a curious look. "What is your standard?" Sypha asked. Levi answered, "Well, she has to be better than me, stronger than me." Trevor asked, "You're into that?" Sypha looked at him. "What, like you wouldn't want a strong woman?" she said before huffing and turning to the side. "Anyways, I don't think you have the time to think about standards. Jump at any opportunity you are given. You are not ugly; you will have plenty of opportunities," Trevor advised. Levi sighed, "No, I don't like when someone I don't know or trust touches me, let alone while I am naked," he said as he leaned back. "Sorrows, sorrows, prayers for me," he muttered to himself as he closed his eyes.

-scene change-

In the middle of the snow-covered fields, the carriage was stopped as a campfire was set, with all four of them sitting in a circle. Levi was obviously meditating, strengthening his core. "Ghosh, he really meditates nearly half of the day," said Trevor as they watched Levi, who had his eyes closed. Alucard snapped a twig in half as he said, "He seems to be detached from our world when he meditates," making Sypha intervene as she said, "Leave him alone and let him meditate in peace. Anyways, I'm still not completely clear on why you don't catch fire in the daylight," she asked as Alucard smiled. "I am half-human. My mother's name was Lisa, and she was mortal," he said, making Levi speak for the first time in a while.

"I would very much like to hear the story of how that happened, like how she got to be together with someone so powerful," he said as the trio looked at him, surprised, and Trevor was startled a bit. "I thought you weren't able to hear us," Alucard said as Levi replied, "That would be stupid. What if someone attacks me?" he said, making Alucard chuckle as he said, "She actually showed up at his front door. She found the castle and banged on the door with the pommel of her knife," which surprised the three of them. Sypha said, "She sounds interesting!" making Levi chuckle. "That is an understatement," he said as Alucard continued, "Oh, she was remarkable. She beat on the door until my father let her in and then demanded he teach her how to be a doctor." This got Levi's full attention as he said.

"Let me get this straight, she walked to a large, intimidating castle, I presume, banged on the door of a supposed vampire, and demanded he teach her how to be a doctor?" he asked as Alucard smiled. "Wow, I admire her resolve and bravery," Levi said as Trevor also seemed to be in disbelief. "Wait, Dracula taught a human woman how to be a doctor?" he asked as he scoffed. "What was first? Bloodletting?" he laughed as both Levi and Sypha weren't impressed. "God, you still think you're funny," Sypha said as Levi added, "Yeah, hey, you wouldn't want to see the world from a toad's perspective, would you?" he asked, half-threatening as Alucard chuckled. "Now, I would pay to see that," Sypha said as Alucard continued.

"My father is a man of science, a philosopher, a scholar, and knows things our society has forgotten three times over. Do you still not understand the enormity of what we're doing? He's gone mad. And from that, there is no recovering him," he said as Levi sighed. "Still, none of that would have happened if the popes hadn't gotten drunk on power," Levi said as they looked at him. "What? The same thing happened to the Belmonts. They were driven out, labeled devil worshippers, and the Speakers aren't much better off either," Levi said as he sighed again. "What do you suggest we do? Do nothing?" Trevor asked as Levi said, "No, actually, that is advice I would give to Dracula," he said as they all looked at him like they wanted an explanation, which he provided.

"Humanity is its worst enemy. They would wipe themselves out. If I was an immortal vampire, I would just let them be. They would wipe themselves out eventually," he said as Alucard finally spoke. "You are weird," as Trevor followed up with, "Maybe the sexual frustration is getting to him," making Levi groan as he quieted down. "It's a tragedy. He's a repository of centuries of learning. He could've changed the world. I think he might have, if Mother hadn't died. She'd sent him out into the world. That's why he wasn't there when the bishops took her," he said as he paused before looking at Levi. "Guess you were right about something," as Sypha asked, "She sent him away?" Alucard sighed as he said, "She sent him to travel. To learn the true state of the world, the true nature of humans, and how they live," making Sypha realize something. "She was turning him," Alucard continued. "Imagine if he could have aimed all that knowledge at improving lives. If the religious inquisition hadn't proved true all of his worst instincts about humans," he sighed.

"Well, anyways, Dracula is terrible. He has great plans to create endless nightmares," Levi said as they looked at him. "Which is why we are here to stop that. Let me cheer you up," he said as he smiled genuinely, the same smile he had when he sang for those kids, making Sypha mouth, "Thanks," which he didn't mind as he started to play his guitar. "I think these lyrics would suit this current mood," he said as he started to sing. "If you told me that the world's ending, Ain't no other way that I could spend it. Oh, oh, oh, oh, Got all this time in my hands, Might as well cancel our plans, yeah, I could stay here forever, so l-" However, he suddenly stopped as they heard something rustling in the bushes near them.

"Wha-" Trevor and Alucard were about to react when Levi stopped them. "What I hate the most, aside from rape and infidelity, is someone interrupting my music," Levi said as he frowned. He didn't show anger. "I will take care of them. Just sit," he said as he got up while stretching himself. Not far from them, twenty-four different night creatures were walking toward them, probably intending to go after the next town. Unfortunately for them, they interrupted his music, so they had to die a painful death.
