Chapter 22 - 22 The Mystery of Professor Baker

Avada rushed in, and after bypassing several piles of debris, he saw Baron squatting anxiously in front of a man wearing a black wizard robe, who was lying unconscious on the ground - it was Professor Baker. And there was a fist-sized black crystal ball next to him, rolling quietly to the side.

"Something is wrong! Baron, come back!"

The moment Avada used his magic senses to scan Professor Baker and the black crystal ball, his hair stood on end, and he shouted to Baron with a pale face.

Baron was also startled by his shouting, and he quickly jumped up and stepped back a few steps, and quickly pulled out his wand from his waist.

 "What's wrong?"

He couldn't help but lower his voice and asked carefully. In his cognition, Professor Baker was undoubtedly a good teacher who was both competent and kind; and his title of director of the Dark Arts Defense League, the trust of Headmaster Dumbledore, and the shocking duel played at the beginning of the school year, all proved that this professor was safe and reliable.

Although the reason why he fell in the Room of Requirement was not clear, no matter how you think about it, he should have been helped rather than warned.

However, the Avada did not answer immediately, but drew out his wand, moved his feet with a very serious face, slowly and silently approached Professor Baker's body, and said to Baron in a serious tone: "Did you see the black crystal ball next to Professor Baker? I suspect it is a dark magic item!"

And I guarantee that this crystal ball has never appeared in the Room of Requirement before, so it can only be brought by Professor Baker, or made by himself!"

 "Are you sure?!"

Baron's pupils suddenly shrank, and his face was full of doubt. The director of the Dark Arts Defense League actually possessed a dark magic item. If this matter were to spread, it would definitely be big news.

Avada smiled bitterly after hearing Baron's question. He was afraid of scaring Baron, so he had already said it lightly. That thing was more than just a black magic item...

Looking at the huge magic hole inside the crystal ball, the lingering golden mental power, and the extremely complex and familiar magic structure around it, Avada sighed.

 It was a Horcrux.

A Horcrux belonging to Professor Baker.

There is no doubt that this Horcrux is the ironclad evidence that this professor, who is deeply trusted by his students, committed the crime of killing and has been studying black magic for many years. In the exploration of a semester, Avada has already had a certain degree of understanding of black magic. Coupled with the content of the original book in his memory and his own research on human mental power, he naturally did not think that the Horcrux would be something pediatric and could be made casually.

In his cognition, only the most evil black wizards who have understood the extreme of black magic and whose souls have been completely corrupted by black magic are qualified to split their souls through killing and then create their own Horcruxes.

Otherwise, if the soul can be split easily through killing, then wouldn't the souls of Aurors, members of the Order of the Phoenix and other fighters who fight for justice also be riddled with holes and shattered?

He finally understood why Professor Baker's mental power had given him a strong sense of disharmony before. Perhaps his soul had already split at that time, but he had concealed his abnormality through some means.

"Are you sure this is a dark magic item? How did you know?"

While thinking, Baron had observed the crystal ball for a while, but did not find any signs of dark magic, so he turned to Avada and asked doubtfully: "Are you sure you didn't see it wrong?"

 "Return immediately, Baron."

Avada said very seriously: "Leave the Room of Requirement first, and then find the nearest professor! I remember Professor Flitwick's office is on the eighth floor, right? Come with me to find him, while Professor Baker is still awake!"

"Even if you don't trust me, you should trust Professor Flitwick, right?"

Listening to Avada's very serious voice, Baron gradually understood the seriousness of the matter - although he still didn't know how Avada confirmed that the crystal ball was a dark magic item, he believed that Avada would not shoot without purpose.

 "Okay, then let's go together..."

 "Hmm..."

Before Baron finished speaking, Avada heard a light snort. Professor Baker, who had been lying on the ground unconscious, had opened his eyes and slowly sat up with his hands on the ground.

 "Run!"

The two of them were so scared that they turned around and ran towards the door of the Room of Requirement!

However, a terrible thing happened: the two of them soon found that no matter how hard they ran, the distance to the door of the Room of Requirement did not shorten at all, and it was even getting farther and farther! In Avada's perception, the magic structure symbolizing "space" had been twisted into a mess at some point, like a huge, invisible maze!

 "It's over..."

Avada stopped desperately, pulled out his wand and prepared to fight to the death. Seeing Baron beside him doing the same thing with a pale face, he couldn't help but smile bitterly, wishing to kill himself at the tea party a few months ago.

At that time, he was still thinking to himself, "I can't even survive the first semester, right?"

I told you to plant the flag! I told you to plant the flag!

 "Huh?"

Professor Baker over there finally stood up and looked around with a somewhat hazy look. Then he quickly noticed Avada and Baron who were facing a great enemy, and a puzzled look appeared on his face.

 "You...are...why...are you here?"

His voice was slow and hoarse, as if he hadn't spoken for several years.

Avada and Baron looked at each other and suddenly realized that they seemed to have a chance to survive.

 "Ahem."

Baron took the lead and took a step forward. The expression on his face instantly subsided, replaced by a genuine concern: "Professor Baker, are you okay? We just came into this room and saw you lying here!"

"Merlin, you finally woke up. We were just hesitating whether to ask other professors for help, but we didn't want to expose this room... It's great that you woke up by yourself!"

Avada's face twitched as he listened, and goose bumps appeared all over his body: This kid is worthy of being admitted to Slytherin in seconds!

 "I... woke up?"

Professor Baker looked at his hands in confusion. After a long while, he slowly responded: "Well... yes, I woke up. You are..."

He raised his head and looked at Avada and Baron for a long time, and the expression on his face gradually changed from recollection to realization.

"By the way, you are Avada Kendavia and Baron Shafik, my students... I am the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, Benjamin Baker, an adventurer, and a director of the Dark Arts Defense League?"

He covered his head and stood up unsteadily, which made Avada and Baron feel nervous again.

"The way to talk to students... By the way..."

He looked at the two of them, with a somewhat stiff smile on his face: "Thank you for your concern, I'm fine, just... um, I encountered a small accident, don't worry..."

"You guys continue to play, I'm leaving first, the professor still has a lot of work to do..."

As the voice fell, the originally distorted space quietly returned to normal, and Professor Baker also took a step, staggering, and walked out of the door unsteadily under the nervous gaze of Avada and Baron, and did not forget to close the door, leaving the two of them staring at each other.

 "This...what's going on?"

Baron finally took off his disguise, took a long breath, and then sat down on the ground. After a long while, he recalled Professor Baker's abnormal behavior just now, and asked Avada in confusion.

Avada remained silent, but he knew in his heart that this was probably the sequelae of a completely split soul. In his perception, Professor Baker's mental power was indeed weakened a lot, and the magic hole that was necessary for intelligent life had also shrunk a lot.

 "By the way,"

Baron suddenly looked at Avada curiously: "Did Professor Baker just say your real name? Your name is Ava..."

 "Don't say it out loud."

Avada shivered again: "I'll explain it to you later. Let's leave here first. You go find Professor Flitwick, and I'll go to the principal's office to find Dumbledore. Professor Baker's condition is too strange, and it may be beyond the ability of a professor to handle it!"

 "Yeah."

Baron also understood the importance of the matter, and didn't dwell on Avada's name. So he got up and followed Avada out the door.

Suddenly, an anxious and familiar voice interrupted their steps.

"Mr. Ken, Mr. Shafik, don't go yet, please wait a moment!"
