Chapter 23 - 23 Professor Baker in the Crystal Ball

The two turned their heads in horror, but only saw the normal Room of Requirement, without finding anything unusual.

  "I'm here."

The voice said with a wry smile, "Go forward, look at the black crystal ball under your feet..."

The two were shocked to realize that in their panic, they had been paying attention to Professor Baker, but had forgotten about the black crystal ball that seemed to be a black magic item!

And now, who else could this voice that was talking to them be, if not Professor Baker?

Avada and Baron drew their wands again, but did not approach the crystal ball that had fallen to the ground.

"It's a good habit to be wary of the unknown." Professor Baker continued with a sigh, "But I really don't plan to do anything to you... You should have noticed how abnormal the 'me' with a body was before? In fact, that was a fake. I am the real Benjamin Baker."

"You are the real Professor Baker?!"

Avada and Baron looked at each other in bewilderment. Not to mention Baron, even Avada, who knew about the existence of Horcruxes, felt a little unbelievable: the soul fragments stayed in the body, and the main soul ran into the Horcruxes. What kind of method is this?

Or is there something else going on with Professor Baker?

With heavy doubts and confusions, Avada pulled Baron back a few steps and slowly approached the door of the Room of Requirement: "Sorry, Professor Baker, your situation is too complicated. We are just two ordinary first-year students. We can neither confirm the situation nor help you... Let's go find Professor Dumbledore and ask him to help you!"

  "Please, don't!"

Professor Baker's voice suddenly became anxious. At the same time, the space inside the Room of Requirement was distorted again, and it turned into an invisible maze that could not be escaped: "My current state must never be known to others!"

"I can swear, I am definitely not like this because I want to harm anyone, or because of the consequences of doing evil... But everyone has some secrets that they don't want others to know, right? For example, you, Ken, what did you rely on to be so sure that this crystal ball is a dark magic item? Are you willing to tell others?"

  Avada frowned and stopped.

But Baron beside him showed a vigilant look: "So, this crystal ball is really a dark magic item?"

"That depends on how you define dark magic items."

Professor Baker laughed bitterly: "If you are talking about black magic in the academic sense, that is, magic that requires damaging one's own mental power to use - then this crystal ball is indeed a dark magic item, and even among black magic, it may be the darkest type..." "

But if you are like those classical wizards who think that only magic used to do evil can be regarded as black magic, then please rest assured that this crystal ball has nothing to do with black magic."

  "Huh?"

Avada, who was listening quietly at the side, had a flash of surprise in his eyes: with the cooperation of his magical senses, he discovered something extraordinary.

But before he could open his mouth to ask, Baron frowned and asked again: "I don't quite understand... Professor Baker, what's going on with you now?"

"As a director of the Dark Arts Defense League, why do you own the 'darkest' dark magic item and bring it to school? What was it originally used for?"

"Why was your body occupied by another person? And why did you run into the crystal ball?"

"And you don't want others to know about this, so what would you do if we hadn't come?"

After hearing this series of questions, the black crystal ball was silent for a while.

"It seems that if I don't dispel your doubts, I'm afraid I won't get your help." Professor Baker sighed helplessly, "Then I will explain it to you roughly."

Avada raised his eyebrows and didn't say anything, intending to listen to what Professor Baker would say - anyway, he couldn't run away now.

"Let me put it this way. The me in the crystal ball now and the person who controlled the body and walked out just now are both me, Benjamin Baker."

"For some reason, my consciousness split during my adventure. This split seriously affected my thoughts, control over my body, and my ability to cast spells. In order to solve this problem, I had to spend several years looking for a solution, and finally got a decent solution: that is to create a special container to absorb the split consciousness and let my main consciousness completely control the body."

"And this black crystal ball in front of you is the container I made to carry the fragments of consciousness."

Professor Baker's voice revealed a certain fatigue: "In order to make it, I had to collect knowledge and magical materials everywhere-including this reason why I decided to come to Hogwarts as a professor. Hogwarts has the largest library in the UK, a banned book area that houses a large amount of secret knowledge, and a secret place I learned about when I was a student, which is here. At that time, I thought that maybe this place could help me achieve my goal as soon as possible..."

"Facts have proved that my decision was correct. Through the library and the restricted area, I have obtained a lot of useful knowledge and data. The channels of the school professors also allow me to obtain hard-to-find materials more conveniently... Just a few days ago, I finally completed the production of the container."

"So I happily came to the Room of Requirement, ready to complete the split secretly here. For this purpose, I also cast magic on the space of this room to prevent other students from breaking in-the one you just encountered."

"Oh, by the way, you probably don't know yet, when there is someone in this room, the portal cannot be opened unless the person outside has the same needs as the person inside..."

"Isn't that right?" Baron asked puzzledly, "But before we came here, many rooms have been opened?"

  "Let me continue."

Professor Baker said bitterly, "However, just when I started the ceremony, an accident happened: due to the excellent performance of the container I made, and some mistakes I made during the operation, my main consciousness was sucked into the container, and the fragment of consciousness remained in my body and gained control!"

Avada didn't know what to do or what expression to express for a while-he really put the main soul into the Horcrux!

How bad a dark wizard must be to be able to do such a shocking operation... No, how could a bad dark wizard make a Horcrux? !

"That's why you can open other rooms." Professor Baker smiled bitterly: "Because only a complete consciousness can be judged as a person by the Room of Requirement - but my main consciousness has been locked in a container, and the fragments of consciousness are not enough to be identified, so in the judgment of the Room of Requirement, I have changed from 'one person' to 'two items'."

Avada nodded secretly, this is true - Voldemort's Horcrux stayed in the Room of Requirement for so long, didn't it still not affect other students to open the room?

"From now on, the 'I' who controls the body will prove what I said. You should find that his lectures will become more and more boring and rigid, and his reactions will be much slower than before..."

  "But if that's the case,"

Baron interrupted Professor Baker suspiciously: "Then after encountering such a thing, shouldn't you go to others for help? Why did you trap us when we were going to find Professor Dumbledore?"

"I said," Professor Baker said in a low voice: "Although it will not do evil, this crystal ball is indeed a cutting-edge black magic creation. If it gets out, even if there is a reason, it will be enough to ruin my reputation."

What's more, this crystal ball contains a lot of my unique technology and some trump cards. Once it falls into the hands of others, these technologies may be analyzed. Then for me, an adventurer who has offended countless black wizards, it will be a fatal hidden danger."

"It's true that I need help, but I hope that the fewer people involved in this matter, the better."
