Chapter 29 - Dark Farm 25

As soon as Wan Qian stepped out of the staff dormitory building and hadn't gone far, she encountered the butler.

The butler was dressed in the same attire as in the afternoon, wearing a black tailcoat and white gloves. He was pushing a cart filled with lunchboxes.

"Ms. Wan, dinner time is approaching. Where are you headed?" The butler noticed Wan Qian and stopped, smiling kindly as he asked her.

Wan Qian gave him a once-over and asked, "Have you been to the office?"

"Hm?" The butler paused, handing the cart to the head of the production department who was with him, and walked over to Wan Qian.

Wan Qian repeated her question, "In the afternoon, did you go to the office?"

The butler nodded, "Of course."

Wan Qian asked, "When was that? Was Wen Xirou still in the office?"

"It was around 2:40 PM. Miss Wen was cleaning the office floor." The butler answered without hesitation.

Wan Qian grabbed his arm, "Come with me to the office!"

The butler was suddenly grabbed by his arm, and was stunned for a moment. Before he could respond, his feet stumbled under the force of Wan Qian pulling him.

"Wait, Ms. Wan—"

The butler struggled to break free from Wan Qian's grip, making an effort to steady himself. His once neat and crisp sleeves were now wrinkled.

"You don't have to be in such a hurry Is something wrong?" The butler said, matching Wan Qian's pace while soothing her gently.

Wan Qian said, "Wen Xirou hasn't come out of the office yet."

The butler understood, "You're worried about Ms. Wen."

Wan Qian asked, "When you were there this afternoon, was she okay?"

The butler recalled the scene of Wen Xirou twisting and crawling on the ground, and nodded firmly, "Ms. Wen is very spirited."

Wan Qian said, "So, after you left around 2 PM, you don't know what happened in the office?"

"I'm sorry, there were some things I had to take care of this afternoon. I couldn't keep an eye on the office situation..."

The butler's words suddenly trailed off halfway. A subtle expression gradually appeared on his face.

Soon, the two arrived at the two-story building where the office was located.

As soon as they entered the second floor, the butler's already subtle expression gradually turned cold and somber.

There was something here that shouldn't have appeared, and the scent in the air hadn't dissipated yet.

Wan Qian hurried to the office, and as she reached the door, she found it was already open.

She entered, only to see Wen Xirou lying on the floor, face down with her back exposed.

...Could she be dead?

In an instant, countless detective novel scenes flashed through Wan Qian's mind. She crawled over to Wen Xirou and knelt beside her, reaching out to check her neck.

Thankfully, it was warm and had a pulse.

Wan Qian breathed a sigh of relief, but then felt a bit guilty.

At noon, when Wan Qian saw Wen Xirou's pale face, she had already known that something was wrong with her health. She should have paid more attention and taken better care of her.

Now, she wasn't sure if it was due to menstrual pain or anemia, but Wen Xirou had fainted at her post.

"Ms. Wan." The butler appeared at the door with an unpleasant expression.

Just now, he had quickly checked the entire two-story building, except for the office, and didn't find anything unusual.

The things that shouldn't have been here actually went to great lengths to distract him and then sneaked into the office. What exactly was their purpose?

Wan Qian looked up at the butler standing in the doorway, noticing his dark expression.

It seemed that the butler really liked Wen Xirou, as he looked so guilty upon seeing her unconscious.

Wan Qian had always had a good temper. Most people who had interacted with her, although not willing to get too close, couldn't deny that she was a kind-hearted and gentle person.

So, at this moment, instead of blaming the butler for not noticing Wen Xirou's fainting in time, Wan Qian comforted him in a gentle and considerate manner.

"It's okay. She's probably just dealing with low blood sugar or menstrual pain. It's nothing serious. You don't need to feel too guilty. After all, the farm is so big, and with only two permanent employees, it's hard for you to keep track of everything."

The butler's expression didn't soften at Wan Qian's words. Instead, it became even more complicated.

"I understand, Ms. Wan," he finally replied after a long pause.

"Ah, right—" Wan Qian stood up and took the leave request out of her pocket.

"Let's get this leave request approved, shall we? Given her condition, she probably won't be able to work tomorrow," Wan Qian said to the butler.

The butler nodded and walked toward the desk. He took out a key from his pocket and unlocked the drawer. Inside the drawer was an official seal.

The butler took out the seal and ink pad, placing them neatly on the desk before looking at Wan Qian. His dark eyes stared at her intensely.

"It requires you to personally stamp it."

Wan Qian walked over, took the small seal, and dipped it in the ink. To her surprise, the ink was blue.

She hesitated and asked, "Isn't there a red ink pad?"

The butler lowered his gaze and smiled gently, his voice soft, "Of course, there is, but the leave request should be stamped with a blue ink pad."

Wan Qian let out an "oh," guessing that this might be a habit passed down from her great-uncle.

In her vague memories, her great-uncle had indeed been an eccentric person. Otherwise, he wouldn't have raised those mutated creatures on the farm.

Wan Qian easily convinced herself and left the blue seal on the leave request.

After finishing all of this, Wan Qian turned her attention back to Wen Xirou, who was still lying on the floor.

"Then I'll just carry her back right now."

The butler, still collecting the seal, said, "I'll help you."

"No, no need!" Wan Qian quickly declined.

"After all, it's one person's weight. If I help..." The butler looked up, only to see that Wan Qian had already lifted Wen Xirou horizontally and even gave her a little shake in her arms.

"Sigh, these young girls nowadays, so thin..." Wan Qian sighed quietly.

Wen Xirou was lighter than Wan Qian had imagined—much easier to carry than that wardrobe in the dormitory.
