Chapter 11 - 11~WELCOME HOME

EMMA

"Ahh!" I screamed out in shock but then the light turned on and my gaze met Lucas.

"Lu… Lucas?" I called in scared, and he also stared at me weirdly.

"Why are you still in the office? And why did you scream that way?" I glared hard at him.

"I almost lost my breath! I should ask you that question instead of giving me quite a jump!" I rushed out already feeling the way my heart was thumping fast and hard.

"I came to the office because I left some files I would need and.." his words turned faint and I knew it, this is the reason my parents don't give me surprises. I get scared when I see things like this and it would have a great effect on me.

I clutched my chest, my heart racing like a jackhammer. The room began to spin, and I felt myself crashing to the ground. My hand grasped my chest tightly as if trying to physically hold my heart together.

"Hey... what's wrong... Look at me," Lucas whispered, noticing my distress, his voice laced with concern.

This was my second attack in a day, and I knew I needed my medication desperately.

I tried to speak, but my voice was barely audible. "I... my... bag..." I gasped, my chest constricting with every breath.

Lucas didn't seem to hear me, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me. I forced out the words again, my voice strained. "Please... get my bag," I said pointing to my desk.

This time, Lucas heard me. He rushed to my bag, bringing it back as he dumped its contents onto the floor. "My me… medication is… is there," I whispered again.

He searched for my medication. I watched, my vision blurring, as he handed me the pills.

But I was too weak to even open my mouth. My hands trembled, and my breathing seized. Lucas's face was etched with worry as he pleaded with me.

"Hey... this is it, don't die on me, please. I don't want to be in trouble with the Alpha," he begged.

But I was beyond responding. Beena cried out in distress, (We... we need water.)

As if Lucas understood he sped out of the room, returning with a bottle of water. I grabbed it from him, gulping down the liquid in desperate gasps. The bottle was empty in seconds.

As the water hit my system, I began to feel a slight relief from the pain. My breathing slowed, and my body relaxed, inching toward unconsciousness.

I felt myself drifting off to relaxation, my mind foggy and disoriented. Util I heard Lucas's words.

"Are you doing fine now? Do you want me to tell the Alpha?"

At the mention of the Alpha, I jolted awake, my heart racing once more. I grabbed Lucas's hands, my eyes locking onto his.

"Please... no... don't tell the Alpha," I begged, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Nothing happened here, it isn't his business," I pleaded, his gaze held hesitation.

"Why?"

"Because he can't know about all my life, not like we have any relationship together?" Lucas stared at me for a while.

"So you are not like his sex partner or anything?" I squinted my gaze letting go of his hands as I punched him real hard.

"Hey! Why would you think of such!" I grumbled as I struggled to pick up my things but then he pulled me back.

"I have never seen him so mad about me going close to any girl until that day, you sure?" I rolled my eyes as he joined me in picking them up.

But then he grabbed my hands, "Why are your hands this red?" I snatched it off, not ready to say anything that would make him get mad at Lady Nyx.

"It must be because of the constant typing," I lied and was about to stand but I fell back to the ground.

"You are such a stubborn lady," he announced. I just rolled my eyes at this.

"I have time to finish my task so I need to complete it before tomorrow morning since it will be used tomorrow morning."

Lucas's eyes narrowed as he gazed at me. "You just started working here yesterday, and you already have so many tasks. Weren't you given an assistant to help you?"

I forced a smile, trying to brush off his concern. "Lucas, that's enough for the night. Thanks for helping me, I will get back to business now."

I turned to leave, but Lucas stopped me. "You just had an attack, and it's nighttime already. You should go home and rest."

I shook my head immediately, dreading another argument the next morning. I will not go home, no matter how long it takes, rather than risk losing my job.

Lucas's expression softened, and he offered, "Fine if you're going to be stubborn, I will help you. That way, the job will be easier, and you can go home early."

Before I could refuse, Lucas glared at me, "Don't you want to go home early?"

I nodded, and Lucas sat opposite me, helping me with the tasks. "You are still new, with me helping you wouldn't get reprimanded." he let out and I smiled.

"Alright, thanks." I let out.

I had to admit, working with Lucas made everything go smoothly. I had already texted my family, letting them know I would be coming home late, so I wasn't worried about them.

After a few more hours of silence, I clicked the send button and let out a sigh of relief. "Finally!"

Lucas chuckled. "Yo! That was one heck of a task. Make sure your assistant is reprimanded tomorrow."

I nodded, too exhausted to argue. I checked the time, to see it was already 2 a.m.

As we packed up our things, Lucas offered, "I can walk you home."

I didn't bother arguing, Beena seemed to accept his offer as well, I could tell she was exhausted.

We both walked out and the moment I got out of the company I could feel that burning gaze on me.

I looked around to see what was going on but no one was there, I shrugged my shoulders and proceeded to chat with Lucas as we walked home.

As we approached my cabin, Lucas's eyes widened in surprise. I wasn't fazed, though everyone reacted that way when they saw our humble home.

But to me, it was perfect. My parents had always made sure we had food on the table and love in our hearts. Who was I to be ashamed of this?

Lucas's gaze lingered on the cabin before turning back to me. "You are the one everyone calls the weird family?"

I smiled wryly. "So you do know me?" I retorted, recalling his earlier claim that he hadn't seen me before.

Lucas chuckled. "Oh, that's nice. Hope we get to know each other more."

I raised an eyebrow. "You still want to know me more?"

Lucas shrugged nonchalantly. "Why can't I? You don't look weird to me."

I shook my head, surprised by his interest. "Nah... I was surprised you still want to make friends with me."

Lucas's smile grew wider as he grasped my shoulder, making me freeze. "You are going to be my friend henceforth."

I forced a smile, unsure how to react to his sudden declaration.

Lucas winked and released my shoulder. "Sorry for that, I tend to get that way with friends. See you in the morning."

With that, he turned and left, leaving me to wonder what had just happened.

I stepped inside my cabin, shutting the door behind me. The sweet scent of Alpha Ian's presence hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn't need anyone to tell me he was in my home, but why?

I walked into the living room, and my heart sank. There Alpha Ian's men stood beside my family, their claws pressed against their necks.

Alpha Ian's voice sent shivers down my spine. "Welcome, Emma. I have been expecting you for a while now."
