Chapter 9 - 9~HIS SCENT

EMMA

The moment he walked out the door slammed shut and then Alpha Ian slammed me against the wall.

"What was that about?" I was irritated at this moment and I needed to voice out immediately else I might be in another kind of trouble.

"Your smell will be all over me, stop pulling me closer.." I stumbled, I didn't miss the stare sent my way this morning, even my parents kept giving weird gazes because they felt they could smell another scent around me.

I looked up at Alpha Ian's eyes, and they flashed from icy blue to golden. His eyes gleamed with a fierce light as he asked, "Again... are you rejecting me? You don't want me close to you?"

I was taken aback by his accusation. Hadn't he been the one to reject me first? I tried to speak, but my voice caught in my throat.

"Cat got your tongue?" Alpha Ian sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "Answer me!"

I gritted my teeth, trying to process the situation using everything in me so as not to curse out at him.

"What's going on with you Alpha?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady. "You are the one who rejected me, Alpha Ian. Why are you acting like this?"

Alpha Ian's face twisted in anger, and he grabbed my neck, pulling me close.

"You think you can just walk away from me easily?" he growled, his breath hot against my ear. "You think you can just reject me?"

I pushed him away, my anger rising to the surface. "I will do what I want," I spat, glaring at him. "You don't own me. You already rejected me."

Alpha Ian's eyes flashed with fury, and he pulled me back, his grip rough, his fist tightening "If you dare accept my rejection," he snarled, "I will make sure your family suffers for it."

My heart skipped a beat, and fear crept into my voice at the mention of my family. I have heard how he kills without mercy, I am very sure it isn't a threat he would do it if I am not careful.

"Alpha Ian, please... don't hurt my family," I begged, my eyes welling up with tears. "I am sorry, I will do anything you want, just please don't hurt them."

Alpha Ian's expression softened slightly, but his grip on my neck remained firm. "You will do anything I want?" he repeated, smirking as I noticed his grip now loosening allowing me to breathe.

I nodded, trying to swallow my fear, hoping not to regret my words. "Yes, anything, just please don't hurt my family."

Alpha Ian's eyes seemed to bore into mine as if searching for any sign of deception.

After a moment, he released his grip on my neck, and I stumbled back, gasping for air.

"I'm sorry," I repeated, trying to compose myself. "I didn't mean to defy you, Alpha Ian. It won't happen again."

Alpha Ian's expression was unreadable, but his voice held a warning. "See that it doesn't repeat itself, else your family gets it," he said, before turning and walking away.

I fell to the ground, my hands grasped at my chest, my breathing becoming harsh and labored.

My eyes spun around, and I felt like I was seeing triple. I couldn't breathe, and my vision began to blur.

My panic attack was beginning to set in, as I struggled to calm myself down. I focused on taking slow, deep breaths, trying to control my racing heart.

My hands trembled as I tried to steady myself, my eyes still spinning from the intense fear.

Slowly but surely, I managed to calm myself down, my breathing returning to normal. I sat, taking deep breaths for a while before finding my way back to the office trying to compose myself.

The moment I walked in, I was met with Ryder's glare.

"Where have you been?" he demanded like he was ready to attack me. "And why are you late?" he added before I could respond to his first question.

I swallowed hard, trying to think of an excuse, since I dared not tell them I was with the Alpha, before I could say anything, Ryder threw a file at me.

"This is the work you were supposed to do," he sneered. "But it's clear you didn't do it well. You call this research?"

I picked up the files, surprised that he wasn't satisfied with it. I had spent hours working on this project, and I knew I had done my best.

"You didn't even follow the instructions," he accused. "You're supposed to analyze the data, not just summarize it."

I felt a sting of tears in my eyes, but I dared not say a word, I wasn't even given the instructions to follow.

Lucy, who was sitting nearby, looked like she wanted to help me, but Ryder yelled at her to mind her own business.

I took a deep breath and went back to my seat, dropping the files on my desk.

Just as I was about to start working again, Lady Nyx knocked on my desk again. "The last time I checked, I asked you to get me a coffee." my eyes almost bulged out of their sock, as I stood abruptly from the chair:

"I am so sorry, Lady Nyx," I apologized. "I completely forgot."

Lady Nyx stood up from her chair, her expression stern. The entire team stood up, looking tense and anxious.

"What did you just say?" Lady Nyx demanded, moving closer to me as I trembled at how angry she was now.

"I… I said I forgot your coffee, Lady Nyx," I stuttered, "My Lady, I will go get it for you now don't get mad," Lucy announced finding her way out of the office but Lady Nyx stopped her.

"I asked this bitch! Not you! So don't get on my nerves!" she yelled, but like something got her attention she stopped midway her expression changed. She sniffed the air, her eyes narrowing now moving closer to me.

"You smell like the alpha," she accused. I swallowed hard, already nervous.

"I… I don't know what you are talking about, Lady Nyx," I stuttered.

She broke into a deadly laugh and before I could control it he grabbed me by the neck, her grip tight.

"Don't lie to me," she hissed. "I can smell the alpha's scent all over you. What did you do with him?"
