Aurelia held her breath, her heart pounding even harder in her ears when she recognized that authoritative voice to be the madman's.
As much as she loathed him, she knew that if she didn't fight to clear her name before anyone else spoke, this man would really execute her.
Wriggling her body as much as she could to get his attention, she whimpered desperately, "My lord, it's all an accusation! I would never do such a thing. I swear to the Moon Goddess!"
Mikael leered at her back.
"Is a filthy thing like you saying my source is wrong?"
Aurelia was silent for a moment before she cautiously retorted, "No one is perfect, my lord. Your source might have mistaken me for someone else. Investigate me, torture me, but I assure you, you'll only find out you've been torturing an innocent person!"
Mikael was rendered speechless by such a well-worded response.
It was so good there was nothing he could nitpick.
