I cleared my throat and I smiled politely and turned my attention to the river.
"It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" I asked him.
"Sure is" he said and picked up a couple of stones and started skipping them on the river. If he noticed a change in my demeanor, he didn't show it.
"I should probably go back to the party if I am to find a husband before dawn. And it was nice meeting you, Mr…" I realized that we had been down here for almost two hours and we didn't even know each other's name.
He stopped skipping stones to say. "Why ruin our fun by some pesky little thing like real names and boring real life? I would like to be called…" he tapped his nose as he thought of a name.
I dimmed my eyes at him. Chances were he was a serial ax murderer but on a second thought, not living my real life sounded like fun.
