"You need to calm down, Bell. C'mon, just relax." Jessica was trying to calm Isabella as they had already walked to the parking lot beside Isabella's car so that she couldn't make the situation worse.
Isabella, though, was still fuming with anger, she couldn't control herself right now, but hearing what Jessica said, she kinda eased a bit. Noticing something weird, Isabella looked at Jessica with a confused expression.
"You never call me Bell. It's always Isabella." Isabella said, noticing the worry in Jessica's voice.
"And?" She didn't seem to understand the importance of the act.
Isabella just shrugged, knowing the density of her friend as Jessica wouldn't understand the emotions for someone as close as they had become.
In the department, Isabella knows and speaks with everyone. Though she easily gets her emotions flared up, but she is cheerful when nothing bothers her. And thus, many people started to nickname her Bell, the one person that didn't do it besides the superiors, was Jessica.
After Isabella had gone through about 3 partners, Jessica came and she didn't have hope that it would work out. That's why they took some time to figure things. After they did, they got closer and closer. Jessica with her insensitivity, strict, and logical mind, and Isabella with her easily-angered personality, coupled with wild and irregular manners.
They complete each other. When Isabella steps out of line, Jessica would restrain her. And when Jessica didn't act like a human, but a robot instead, Isabella would knock common sense into her head.
"You have to control yourself, if they get on you too much, you might be expelled from the force. What are you going to do then? You can't be this reckless." Jessica tried to argue and make her calm through logic, which rarely worked, and Jessica didn't understand why others don't see things as easily.
"I don't really care. If they don't understand what is going on, even after seeing what happened there, then I don't need to stay here." Isabella blurted.
Jessica seemed to think things for a moment.
"Then you should go. If there is nothing that holds you here, you don't need to stay." Jessica spoke, her usual neutral voice carried a tint of anguish.
Noticing that she said something hurtful, Isabella was about to apologize.
"She is right, you know. Maybe a change of environment would be the best." A third voice suddenly sounded behind them.
Looking at the handsome dude just leaning against the front of a car, wearing a black outfit and seemingly nonchalant to the fact he just eavesdropped on the conversation.
"AND WHO ARE YOU?" Isabella's anger soared again.
"Hahaha... I am just a guy passing by, relax." Nicholas said as he looked at Isabella and Jessica with a smirk. His face not easing Isabella's anger.
"Look, I am not trying to be a villain," Nicholas said with his hands up, in a surrendered manner. "I came with a proposal. You are probably tired of doing the boring work for Ellison, and I need someone with brains. In this case, it would be Jessica, but you two are attached to one another, and I feel like I can trust your instincts." He said the last part pointing at Isabella. "So why not? You could work in cases that really matter, and everyone smiles." Nicholas had a smile, his tone that of a salesman.
"What are you? Some type of private agent? What are you talking about, and how did you know about Ellison?" Jessica, being the most level-headed, spoke first before Isabella attacked the man.
"No. I am not some type of detective. Although I am with the PD. I am inviting you two to enjoy a task force, centered around criminals from New York City. So, I saw that you two were just rotting here and decided to take a shot. You know, it could work pretty well." Nicholas said as he walked from one side to another.
"A task force? What's the context?" Jessica continued, Isabella had calmed down a little at the mention of working in a serious project like a task force.
Task forces usually have two natures. A short-term task force, where they center around a specific group, or for example, when a prisoner escapes prison. A long-term task force usually has an emphasis on a bigger matter, like trying to end drugs in the city. That's why it's a serious project, they wouldn't sit around, they go to action and that excites Isabella.
"Do you know the situation that the city was in a few years back, right? Killers and gangsters everywhere, and then came Chief Lawrence and his shutdown which flipped the city. Those guys got replaced by other people. So our purpose is to take them down." Nicholas answered, sounding excited as he looked at their reactions. Most people only know that Chief Lawrence did the job, not that he received help from Nicholas's letter, that's why there would be no reason to mention that he was the real responsible for it.
"Are you for real?" Isabella asked. Her face had a smile and showed a growing excitement at Nicholas' words.
"Yes." Nicholas replied looking into her eyes, his face had that smile present.
"I'm in!" Isabella said, her face now seemingly all full of excitement as if the previous anger was never there.
Nicholas brought his arm around her neck, resting it on her shoulder like they were old friends. He smiled saying.
"Meet me at the NYPD main office at 5 p.m. tomorrow."
Isabella kept the smile as well, seemingly not minding his arm around her.
Nicholas then started walking out of the parking lot.
"Hey. What about me?" Jessica said as he completely ignored her existence. What if she didn't want to go with them?
"I told you, Detective. You two are attached." Nichola's voice trailed as he truly left.
