Chapter 33 - Team Reunion

Nicholas was seating on a desk chair right now. In front of him, circling the long rectangular desk, were Jeremy, Jessica, Isabella, Joseph, and Police Chief Lawrence. Standing up close to a whiteboard was Detective Hughes.

Jeremy had a frown on his face, he didn't know what to expect. He had just robbed a bank and put it to bankruptcy. Now, this dude brings him to a police department, he felt like he had never seen so many blue jerseys together in a place.

Isabella and Jessica were nervous, they were beside the fuucking police chief. One question that appeared inside their mind after realizing that the police chief is in their meeting, is 'who is this guy with the black overcoat?'. Nicholas hadn't even told them his name, and the two detectives were curious to know his background to have the police chief attend the first meeting.

Joseph, on the other hand, had an annoyed face like he really didn't want to be here. Nicholas had dragged him before the planned time, which didn't work out well for him.

Looking at all these characters seating around with different expressions, Chief Lawrence was feeling that Nicholas ways with his words. It's two hours before the deadline to gather the members and he already did it.

Nicholas figured that gathering them as soon as possible was the best. They have work to do.

Nicholas then motioned to Detective Hughes to present the case, the latter was nervous as hell, same like Isabella and Jessica, this was the police chief, seating right there a few meters of him.

He is the closest representation of a legend in the police department, and when people see him, they act like he is a celebrity. Some had even managed to pass out in excitement seeing Chief Lawrence up close.

Coughing a little to clear his voice, Detective Hugues was about to begin when he heard Nicholas.

"Right. I didn't tell every one of you. We are here to investigate a murder." Nicholas said with a calm expression, his voice didn't seem to transmit any signs of talking about a murder.

Different expressions appeared inside the room at the mention of a murder investigation.

Jessica thought it was normal, due to being in a task force it's common to investigate deaths. She just nodded her head.

Isabella was shaking in excitement on her chair, paying her ultimate attention. 'Finally, some real fuucking action!' She thought.

Jeremy was blankly looking at Nicholas. 'What the hell is this?' He thought.

Joseph didn't mind, he figures that's why he is here. An expert in forensics investigation, he assumed an expression of pride.

Lastly, Chief Lawrence couldn't help but speak up.

"Wait, you didn't tell everyone what we are doing?" His forehead had a big frown as he thought Nicholas' actions to be unbelievable, he almost yelled his words.

"Well... I just did." Nicholas said with a smile. He didn't seem to get why Chief Lawrence was so exalted and looked the other way, signaling Hughes to continue.

"The victim's name was Henrique Perez, a Colombian immigrant with a permanent green card due to provided work. Gobert Industries was his employer a while ago here in the US but now the victim seemed to work as an autonomous merchandiser, selling CDs in Times Square. There are no known relatives in the US, he arrived here just last year." Detective Hughes explained.

"He died around night time, two days ago. A single shot to the head, a Glock 17 with a sound suppressor." Hughes looked at Nicholas when talking about the suppressor, as he still reminisced Nicholas finding this fact on the spot, "The killer seems to have preparation, knowing exactly what he was doing, investing in using a sound suppressor, coupled with the note that we found inside his jacket pocket. The note said 'Meet me at the alley from last time, I will be there at 8 p.m.'" Detective Hughes said as he paused for a moment, letting everyone get their conclusions.

"We found the body in an alley, the time of death was also close to the time written on the note. My assumptions are that Mr. Hen..." Detective Hughes was about to take the opportunity and present his conclusions in front of Police Chief Lawrence, maybe he would get a promotion if he solved it. What he didn't expect was Nicholas interrupting him mid-sentence.

"Alright, that is okay, Detective Hughes. I just needed you to present the case." Nicholas paused as he got up.

"I know most of you have probably studied or heard some of the histories about New York City's dark times. What not many know, is that after the war for the city was over, other criminals settled in. The police became oblivious to their existence." Nicholas said looking at everyone, but he also noticed that Cheif Lawrence was slightly embarrassed.

"I have gathered some information about some of these organization key members. What happened to Henrique is the doing of this organization. Our job right now will be to work with each other and put them down." Nicholas continued.

"In this room, we have Jeremy. My student." Nicholas said pointing at Jeremy which left the latter weirded out.

"Isabella and Jessica, the detectives that will accompany us from here." Nicholas spoke calmly but at the end of his sentence, Hughes seemingly wanted to protest as he was, until now, responsible for the case and he had never seen these two ladies before.

Nicholas just raised a hand, signaling him to stop.

Detective Hughes helplessly looked at Chief Lawrence, making the chief looked at him like saying "Deal with it".

"Lastly, Joseph. Our forensics expert, and also our accountant." Nicholas smiled.

Joseph looked at Nicholas with anger at the mention of "our accountant". He hated the fact that he even went to college to study Administration. His tastes leaned towards biology and science in general, but not mathematics. Besides, what would the police need an accountant as part of the team? Don't they have people to do that job? Joseph wondered.

"Now that everybody knows your colleagues, now we are going to work." Nicholas said.
