Chapter 23 - Jeremy

Nicholas had just finished talking to police chief Lawrence, as the latter left the building.

Remembering what he had said to the chief, Nicholas thought about Jeremy, he really hadn't seen the kid after those events with the kidnapping.

Nicholas decided to pay a visit to him.

Living in Brooklyn, Jeremy had grown up in a predominantly black neighborhood, he and his friends had it hard, his family was only his mother as his father had died before he was born.

Jeremy, incredibly, was the one who had it easiest out of the people he knows. He learned fast, worked hard, and overall really smart.

At fifteen he already had enormous skills with computers, an old man that lived close to his home had a lan house, so often he would listen to him, or pay attention while the old man fixed computers. Later, he got to make his own computer from the scraps that the old man gave him, years and years after, Jeremy has amazing skills, not only in computers but other areas. When he was 18, Jeremy had long made his mother stop working, he already made money for the both of them.

He met with a few people from hacking groups, spend his time with university students where he learned a lot about chemistry, physics, medicine, etc. He became a jack of all traits, his brain worked and picked things in different ways.

Just a few months before, Jeremy had met some of Papa John's men, one thing led to another, he was presented to Papa John himself and in a showcase of his skills, Papa John wanted him to work with him. Not only could he work on his own, but he could lead some of the organization's branches, that's what was promised.

His test, ultimately failed, he met with Nicholas, and there he was.

He got changed into a Vampire. One thing that he didn't know yet, but he was one of the rarest things in the world. A Vampire changed after the mana's deficit. Claude himself was another anomaly.

Like said before, vampires can't be created anymore, as any other race can't reproduce their kin, all due to the mana deficit in the world. But Nicholas had ways of dealing with his matters.

Some magical beings, depending on their race, through a bloodline, strength accumulated, and other means, they all have this amount of magical energy inside them, these special ones have more than others. Nicholas, one of these beings with lots of magical energy, gave some of his to Jeremy. This magical energy was present in the ring that Nicholas gifted Jeremy after transformation.

The matter with creating vampires in these times is that their magical energy can't stabilize after the transformation due to the world balance being broken, and eventually, the subject succumbs to ashes. Through the ring that Nicholas gave him, Jeremy's magical energy is stabilized, mostly due to Nicholas' nature, being the one who bit Jeremy, he is now the creator.

Another aspect is that Nicholas' magical energy is incomparably stronger, making Jeremy's and the surrounding energy comply with it. Sometime later, Jeremy wouldn't need the ring anymore.

That's how the vampire was made.

You might ask, why Nicholas doesn't create more Vampires? Well, because magical energy, although it can be regenerated, but not so often taken as it would break the magical creature's own balance. Besides, who needs a bunch of vampires, that not only could go out of control, but that would create chaos in what is left of the magical world?

Jeremy, oblivious to all the matters that he is involved in, was now laying on his bed. He had his laptop on his legs as he skimmed through the internet, searching for anything vampire-related.

He looked for anything and anywhere. Deep web, history websites, fantasy books. He needs to know more.

His thirst for blood was under control for now, but what about later, when he gets hungry again? He had already gone to a hospital to get some blood. He brought every type, A, AB, negative or positive, etc. His room now had a big medicine cooler, proper for storing the blood.

Entering the hospital was easy, one minute inside their internet servers and he authorized his own dispatch of blood.

Although he had drank blood already, when Nicholas gave him, that's why he was okay right now. But Jeremy didn't know what type of blood would alleviate him, or if it even matters, that's why he brought every type.

Sometime later, Jeremy was taken out of his search for vampires and called by his mom. One thing that Jeremy wouldn't let go of is his mother. Even though money wasn't a problem anymore, but he still felt better having her around and living with her. And her hard head wouldn't let them move out of their neighborhood because of her friends, she wouldn't leave them here.

Getting up from the bed and walking to the living room, Jeremy saw his mother close to the exit door.

She was a lovely black woman, with black shiny hair, her face was young, even though she was almost 40 years old. She had a lively demeanor, that even though you don't know her, but she makes you look at her with energy that you have never seen before.

She was wearing a simple blouse with jeans, walking barefooted at home as she was used to.

The living room was a bit dark, that's why Jeremy hadn't noticed the visit when his mother pointed at the tall man standing there.

"Jay, you didn't tell me you would bring someone. It's your friend, he just arrived." His mother said as she started walking out of the room.

"I will leave you two to talk." Her voice trailed off.

Looking at his 'friend', Jeremy was a bit nervous. Not just a friend, he was a vampire, the one who bit him, Nicholas.

A vampire at his home, with his mother in it.

'Is mother in danger?' Was Jeremy's first thought.
