After about half an hour explaining somethings about the magical world, Julius finally left, he said his goodbye to Demetrius as they probably wouldn't meet each other anymore.
Julius had found a new place to run the drug labs. Columbia University.
They have a pretty good lab already installed, as the best chemistry college close by, they had to. Mr. C was currently dealing with the products that they would need, Julius would have to go off the radar for a while, as he needs to provide the service himself, being with a gang like Bad Angels might lead to bad events, like someone telling what they shouldn't, it had already happened with Demetrius.
As Julius trailed off, Nicholas was having a conversation with the Police Chief.
"I'm telling you, two of these people are civilians, they can't come to the force just by a finger snap. The other two are kinda fine, but I will have to bring them from their department, that might be troublesome." Chief Lawrence spoke to Nicholas.
They were both at a penthouse in Manhattan, which the police chief had reluctantly agreed to visit in order to talk about the task force.
One of the candidates is called Joseph Howard, a graduating student from a Criminal College in NYC. Nicholas assigned him as the forensic guy for the team, not only could he do a analysis about the scientific proof, but he also graduated from business management, he did the latter early in his career but switched to forensic, even if he didn't like business management, he could be useful in two ways, as someone tracking the money, or doing the daily analysis if they came to find other crime scenes.
The second one, Nicholas already met. The one and only, Jeremy, Papa John's ex protegee, and the one who messed with Claude while he was hunting. Nicholas hadn't met him since that day at the apartment, where they were doing their kidnapping operation. But the kid was good.
He never got caught, meaning a clean record, he also had high-level skills with a computer and also has an incredible intellect from the stories he heard from Papa John's 'employees'.
Third; Detective Isabella Cutten. She is a renowned detective, though known for a slightly high temperamental personality, as she is quite impulsive or hot-headed sometimes. Her approach to criminals is very painful, and she also has a high case completion rate, being really good at using her instincts.
Fourth, also responsible for Isabella's and her own successful cases, is Isabella's partner, Jessica Daniel. Jessica has worked as a detective for 4 years now, while Isabella for about 5 years. They are a match for each other because in their department they are known as the badass sisters, a silly nickname made by some of their friends. While Isabella is temperamental and uses her instincts the most, Jessica is controlled, precise and calculative.
Isabella had arrived earlier in the police department as a detective, so she took some time to settle with a partner that could survive her. The first one was beaten into a pup by her for being sexist and trying to abuuse her seexually. Then about 3 more males came, as finally, she met Jessica. They solved each other's problems and covered the other's back. That's how they formed their chemistry.
These are the people which Nicholas attributed to the team.
Police Chief Lawrence seems a bit perturbed by them pulling Joseph Howard out of college and bringing Jeremy, a civilian as their support for computer assistance. Detectives Isabella and Jessica were somewhat okay, he just need a few favors and it would be done.
"Look, you are going to continue thinking about this. But honestly, these are the best. Jeremy is already in, he will listen to me. Joseph has one of the highest grades from his entire university, he will be alright, as for the detectives, they are receiving too few cases because of Isabella's behavior, so she won't miss the department as much." Nicholas spoke in a convincing manner, Chief Lawrence seemed to take the bait.
"Fine, since you are so sure, you are the one informing them. And personally." Chief Lawrence spoke, his voice serious with a bit of resignment.
"As of now, I would like you to tell me what do you know of the operations ran by that organization, and if it has a name." The chief inquired.
"Well, that's quite easy. These days they call themselves Midnight Club, or Midnight Hotel, whatever you prefer. The Hotel is the facade to somewhat name their legit business. The Club is where things actually happen, members show their true faces and open their business activities for other criminals. I believe you have seen it before, it's here close in Manhattan." Nicholas replied while looking at the window showing the high view in the city.
"Yes, I am aware. They are a quite luxurious Hotel, some of their main members are friends with the mayor, so I have had the opportunity to meet some of them in major parties for these kinds of executives." Chief Lawrence commented.
"Yes, they are surely connected. Most of their business is on the low-level when considering other organizations of world scale, but they are threatening as it can grow incredibly fast. Through the Gobert Industries, they are expanding it to international waters, and as time passes they will be out of reach for the NYPD. That's why, as long as we can lock them here, it will bring the tide to a fair level." Nicholas explained.
"That's... Concerning. What type of business do they execute? Drugs?" The police chief asked, his voice full of worry, as he contemplated the matter.
"Drugs, assassinations, management of local gangs, extortion - including the executive level -, kidnapping, protection fees, robbery, fraud, human trafficking, you name it. They are willing to do everything if needed, and most of these I mentioned already happened and are happening right now. They accumulate power, be it resources, money, connections, etc. The end goal to all of this, I can't tell." Nicholas said simply, not looking at the police chief, but at the same window while standing.
The officer cap that was under the chief's arm was squeezed, as Lawrence didn't know the magnitude of their business. So much time has passed since he fought their predecessors, even after thoroughly beating most of them, someone else took the place and is much stronger than before.
"This is out of my hands. I couldn't figure this out even after so many years, what can I do now?" Chief Lawrence wondered out loud, doubting that he could do something about it since he didn't even know it was this close to his nose.
Before Nicholas could say anything else, Chief Lawrence Jennickins spoke again.
"But... I have to keep going. And since you are supposedly the one who wrote that letter years ago, the letter that made it possible for the city to go to new glory, I suppose I have to believe you again this time." Chief Lawrence was a bit emotional right now, his eyes shined as his eyes became bright with the tears threatening to come out.
"I have to go now, I expect you to have results concerning the team by the end of the day tomorrow." The police chief continued, as he proceeded to walk out of the building, his officer cap under his arm was now on his head as the man nearly marched while exiting the room, displaying his discipline.
