The other day, after Nicholas got a report from Claude, he went to Time Square, specifically the place where Jonathan killed Henrique.
The place was buzzing from police activity. The alley was closed by the yellow tape, police cars were parked around and there were even some journalists trying to get a piece. All being shut down by the officers barring the entry.
Nicholas walked to the officer in the entry, who had his hands holding those common duty belts for policemen. As if looking around, Nicholas smiled.
"Excuse me, who is the detective in charge?" Nicholas asked the officer.
Looking at Nicholas' character, the officer was interested because of his attire but just ignored him, think it was just another curious person.
Nicholas seeing this smirked with an expression saying "I gotch you".
Lifting the tape, Nicholas entered directly inside the murder scene. The police officer's eyes went wide as he noticed Nicholas barging in like it was a normal thing.
Trying to hold the latter's shoulder, the police found it hard as Nicholas deviated the grab.
Looking for the closest detective, Nicholas tapped his shoulder and smiled politely.
"Detective, are you in charge?" He asked.
At this time, the police officer who let Nicholas get in was about to grab his shoulder, but just as he was about to touch it, Nicholas turned sideways and grabbed the officer's arm, executing the same move as Jonathan a while ago.
He pulled the officer's arm, the momentum of the guard made him walk forward, and when he did, Nicholas turned the officer's arm to his back, holding the man in an armlock. A slight push and the officer fell down face first.
The Detective and his crew immediately pulled their guns, pointing them towards Nicholas.
"I am not attacking, it's just that this fellow was being inconvenient," Nicholas said with a gentle smile, putting his hands up in a gesture of non-aggression.
The detective spoke at this time.
"Sure, so why not just fucking beat him to the ground?" His tone was full of sarcasm.
"Turn around, and don't move." The detective continued.
To his surprise, Nicholas didn't move but he still had the same smile.
"I wouldn't do that, yet. I know who might have killed this man." Nicholas said pointing towards Henrique's covered body.
"Well, right now I would bet it was you. TURN around." The detective replied, his voice serious as he yelled the 'turn'.
"Don't be stupid, detective. Why would I show up at the scene?" Nicholas said with a 'humph'.
The other officers looked at the Detective, as his face was shrinking from the frown between his eyebrows.
"Nah, just call Police Chief Jennickins. He will tell you to let me stay." Nicholas said as he dropped his arms and leaned against the wall opposite to the body, as if waiting for the detective to call the police chief.
The police officers were taken aback, not knowing really what to do. The guy wants to call the Police Chief?
The detective that spoke until now decided to try it. Besides, officer Jonas had a few complaints about approach, so Nicholas probably just reacted to it, if indeed Chief Jennickins gave a pass to this guy and they created problem, the detective didn't know what would happen.
Calling the police chief, the detective stepped aside. After speaking for a while, the detective passed the phone to Nicholas.
"Hello, Chief Jennickins." Nicholas said with an excited friendly voice.
At the other side, Lawrence Jennickins was shaken by the voice, he had recognized that voice from the day previous, the man who claimed to write the letter, Nicholas.
"Mr. Nicholas. I didn't expect to talk to you so soon." Chief Lawrence spoke, his tone clearly a bit grim in having to deal with Nicholas.
"Well, me neither. But the dead man here is part of the criminal organization of which we spoke about." Nicholas replied, trying to sound convincing, but his tone showed a glint of excitement.
Again, Lawrence was anxious. This quick after their meeting and someone from the organization was dead?
"What can you tell me about the victim?" The chief asked, deciding to hear more before taking actions.
"He was associated with a big company, this company works for that organization. I don't know what else happened." Nicholas resumed.
"What I can do for you though, is find the murderer. But like I said, I want a team to work solely on cases related to them." Nicholas continued.
After a few moments of silence, Chief Jennickins spoke again.
"Fine, I will look into it but it's going to take some time to get the people together." The chief replied.
"Do not worry, I have the right people. Just let me free on the crime scene, I will send you their files later." Nicholas said with a smirk, though chief Lawrence couldn't see it.
After they finished speaking, Chief Jennickins spoke with the detective and authorized Nicholas to stay on the scene.
"I'm detective Hughes. Nice to meet you, I hope we can start anew." Said the detective that called chief Jennickins.
Detective Hughes is what you expect from a detective, he wears a khaki overcoat with a dress shirt and a shoulder holster underneath, common dress pants. He was slightly cautious in front of Nicholas, the last thing he needs is a political figure trying to finish his as$.
"Nicholas. Just cut the formalities and you may tell me what you found out until now." Nicholas said as he walked around the crime scene as if looking for something.
Although, Nicholas already knew he wasn't going to find much, as he was the one who ordered Jonathan to kill the guy.
Detective seeing this weird guy giving orders didn't feel so good but because of Nicholas backing, answered nonetheless.
"The victim's name is Henrique Perez, a Colombian immigrant with a permanent green card due to provided work. He worked for the Gobert Industries a while ago but now seems to work as an autonomous merchandiser. There are no known relatives in the US, and he arrived here last year. From what I can see, it might be gang-related or a mug that went wrong for Mr. Perez." Detective Hughes explained as he read through his notepad, lastly adding his conclusion.
Nicholas seemingly ignored the detective as he went to one of the forensic officers and grabbed one of the gloves strapped to the side of his bag.
Getting back to the body, Nicholas lifted the dead's jacket and reached for a paper. Seeing this, the detective tried to stop him, but noticing the paper, he called the officer to store it as evidence.
Nicholas didn't give it right back, he looked at the wound on the victim's chest. Then he read words written on the paper.
"Meet me at the alley from last time, I will be there at 8 p.m." Nicholas read the paper.
Putting it inside the plastic bag for evidence, Nicholas looked at the detective defiantly. The latter was surprised by Nicholas finding it so suddenly.
"I believe the gun used was a Glock 17, probably sound suppressed." Nicholas said.
The detective tilted his head in confusion. Nicholas pointed to the bullet wound and spoke again.
"The bullet left a different wound when it made contact with the skin. It's called an unstable nonaxial wound, which only leaves a few options, between those, a sound suppressor is the most likely as we are in the middle of the city, and noise is not welcomed if you want to kill someone without others noticing it."
The other police officers were just looking blankly between Nicholas and Detective Hughes.
The latter decided to confirm and looked at the forensic officer that Nicholas stole the gloves from, the officer just nodded his head, meaning Nicholas was right.
The silence kept going for a few awkward moments until Nicholas just walked away from the crime scene.
