Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Black Lake Temple of Soul Potion

In the world of Diablo, there are seven major classes: Amazon Warrior, Female Assassin, Necromancer, Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, and Paladin.

At that time, Regulus was playing as a Necromancer in Diablo II. Having already beaten the game with every class, he was now using a mod tool to craft the ultimate gear for his new Necromancer.

The Horadric Titan Belt [49 Slots] was one such creation. Huh...? What the heck does [49 Slots] even mean?

You see, a typical belt has just one row of 4 slots and at most 4 rows totaling 16 slots's the usual max.

Regulus, of course, knew that he had transmigrated into another world with a so-called "system," and that system was none other than his modded, overpowered belt.

Then, when his focus shifted to the belt, he realized it was actually an entire character equipment screen. The lower portion consisted of four rows of ten inventory slots each. The upper portion was the equipment section, currently empty except for the belt in the center.

So that's what [49 Slots] meant: 40 empty inventory spaces plus the 9 other equipment slots, with one occupied by the belt making a total of 49.

Besides the character equipment screen, there was also a full-exploration map and, naturally, a skill tree. This was all due to Regulus having added the +7 Necromancer Skills attribute during the modding process.

The Necromancer class has three skill trees: Summoning, Bone & Poison, and Curses.

Each tree contains 10 spells, totaling 30 spells overall. Now, every one of those spell icons displayed a +7 beside them.

And since this wasn't a real game system, the original descriptions no longer applied so rigidly. These spells would now align more with the laws of this new world or, rather, the rules of wizardry and magic.

Basically, it was all just made-up nonsense, but as long as the core meaning remained intact, the spells would adapt based on how the user intended to use them.

For example, let's say you use a spell called "Forceful Growth." Does it yank the plant out of the ground or make it grow faster? That's the thing with mystical magic; it's based on intuition and intent. It's not like scientific weapons where you can calculate precise outcomes.

Now that he understood everything, Regulus was ready to use one of the belt's innate Summoning spells: Dominate Undead.

"Alright, let's see if that body still works." Regulus raised his hand dramatically and pointed at one of the undead in the water.

The corpse of Regulus Black quickly responded and slowly walked toward the small island, climbing ashore.

Originally, Dominate Undead was just a passive support skill that boosted the stats of other minions.

But now, Regulus was using the spell to directly control a mindless undead and bring it to his side.

As an undead, Regulus Black remained forever eighteen years old. His appearance had not changed; his body showed no signs of prolonged exposure to water no bloating, no decay, no corpse spots.

Regulus looked at the undead in front of him. It felt like looking into a mirror. The two looked very similar, though Regulus himself had more East Asian features, while the other had the more Western features of a Caucasian. Still, they both had black hair.

Next, Regulus prepared to use his second spell, another Summoning spell: Revive Corpse.

In the original game, Revive Corpse brought slain monsters back to life to fight for the Necromancer.

Now, Regulus was going to use it on himself by reviving within Regulus Black's body.

First, he had the corpse lie down. He didn't want to get up just to fall into the water and get mauled by a swarm of the undead.

"Maybe you really are my past life. Hopefully, this resurrection goes the way I expect."

Regulus's spirit form lay down and aligned perfectly with the undead body.

"Alright then... Let's begin. Revive Corpse!"

Regulus cast the spell on himself. It would've been a lie to say he wasn't nervous, but all he felt was a soft jolt.

"Did it work?" Regulus suddenly sat up, or rather, Regulus Black sat up like a zombie rising from the dead.

He focused carefully on the sensations. His body was gradually warming up from its former coldness. The steady beat of his heart echoed in his ears. Blood was flowing through his limbs once more, and the crisp, icy air filled his lungs with refreshing vitality as he took his first breath in a long time.

"I'm finally alive again!"

Regulus Black shouted in his own voice.

His voice echoed throughout the cave, but the undead beneath the water showed no reaction. Regulus Black knew that unless the water's surface was disturbed, the undead would remain dormant, only emerging to attack any living creature that touched the water, continuing until those lives became one of them.

This was exactly why Regulus hadn't merged with the corpse of Regulus Black during the resurrection.

He returned once more to the stone basin. The soul potion within had already vanished, leaving behind only a rectangular, gemstone-like locket box.

It was the fake Regulus Black had swapped in long ago. Opening the locket revealed a note left inside: Regulus Black's final words.

To atone for the mistakes of his past, Regulus Black had used his life to make one last act of redemption.

But now, that final message had lost its meaning because Regulus Black had returned.

Still, it could be put to good use. After crossing over with the system, aside from the character equipment screen and the skill tree, there was also a subtle system ability: Panoramic Exploration Map.

Just like in the game, the areas a character walked through would be automatically recorded. And when playing this kind of game, "stepping on the map" was absolutely essential; without it, it just didn't feel complete.

Since Regulus had crossed into this world, the map had started recording from the cave entrance, and now it had logged the entire cave and Black Lake.

Regulus Black had managed to graduate early at the age of sixteen and with outstanding grades in Slytherin. Naturally, his magical prowess was nothing to scoff at. Otherwise, Voldemort wouldn't have taken notice of him and recruited him into the Death Eaters right after graduation.

Here, he borrowed inspiration from his older brother Sirius Black and the magical artifact created by his group, Marauder's Map, and combined that with the various shrine mechanics from Diablo.

It's worth noting that after Sirius graduated, Marauder's Map eventually ended up in Regulus Black's hands.

"Alright then! Let's see if I can combine both and create the item I have in mind."

First, the portion of Black Lake from the projected panoramic map was transcribed onto the paper in his hand. The original final message on the parchment disappeared, leaving behind what now looked like a treasure map detailing the environment of the cave and Black Lake.

Instantly, the map displayed clusters of names and footprints the names of those who had drowned and turned into undead were now revealed.

"Almost 800 undead... that's a bit much."

Regulus Black felt he had a certain obsession with the number 7.

Once the Marauder's Map of the Black Lake was completed, the parchment automatically rolled itself up. Despite its length, it seemed to shrink down and was stored inside the locket's inner space. A strange green glow radiated from within, and Regulus Black was forcibly pushed out by it.

Though he still held the locket in his hand, he now stood outside the stone wall. When he checked the panoramic map, the space behind the wall had completely vanished.

Looking down at the locket in his hand, Regulus Black was quite satisfied with this first attempt at crafting a magical tool.
