On a rugged coastline where the waters roared and surged, the sky remained shrouded in dark clouds year-round. Waves crashed violently against the jagged reefs.
There, by the sea, was a hidden cave. its location so obscure that few would ever notice it. And now, a faint spiritual glow had appeared within.
Regulus wore a confused expression as he checked his current state. Just moments ago, he had inexplicably traversed to this place.
"Am I... a ghost now?" he murmured, his hands emitting a pale white spiritual light. His entire body floated weightlessly in the air.
He had transmigrated, just like that! Just like that! Just like that!
Some things are so important, they need to be confirmed three times. It seemed Regulus had truly transmigrated.
Outside the cave entrance, it was daytime. Although the sky was blanketed with dark clouds, sunlight still managed to permeate everything. Whether it was day or night was clear enough to tell. Waves filled with salty mist surged to the cave's edge - just a hair's breadth more, and seawater would have poured in.
Behind him lay the cave itself, completely shrouded in darkness. Not a single ray of light could penetrate its depths. If not for the glow his spirit body gave off, Regulus wouldn't be able to see anything at all.
What now? Step outside to bask in the sun, or head deeper into the cave?
Well, the answer was obvious. Regulus wasn't about to test whether sunlight would cause his soul-form to dissipate.
Though Eastern and Western ghosts differed in nature, spirits in general were known to appear at night, weren't they? So…
"Alright then! Into the cave we go!" Regulus turned and floated inward.
He still remembered before transmigrating, he had been playing a game on his computer. He was using a modifier tool to craft his ultimate piece of gear, stacking it with overpowered attributes one by one. If that item had been used in-game, the balance would've been completely wrecked!
Breaking the game's balance like that... man, it felt so damn good! He remembered that it was a belt. What was it called again...?
Ah, right! "The Titan Belt of the Horadrim!" Regulus whispered the name softly.
Suddenly, a belt about the width of a palm appeared and automatically fastened itself around his waist. The metallic belt fit perfectly over his spiritual form.
"Wait... is this why I transmigrated? Just because I modified this item on my computer, and now I've ended up here?"
Regulus wanted to die all over again. Though technically, he was already dead, he wouldn't mind dying a second time.
Being transmigrated just because he had altered an item's attributes? That reason nearly broke him. There were tons of people who had made even more absurd edits than he did, why didn't they get transmigrated?

Regulus checked the belt's stats. yep, this was definitely the piece of gear he had modified before transmigrating.
This belt belongs to a Necromancer. The skill attached to it [+7 to Necromancer Skills] was clearly made for that class.
What puzzled Regulus even more now was that after putting on the belt, he began to feel a strong pull toward a certain place within the cave.
Drifting along, Regulus eventually reached the far end of the cave, surrounded on all sides by sheer rock walls, no exit in sight.
"But this doesn't feel right," he muttered, trusting his instincts. He reached out toward the rock wall beside him.
Thanks to his ghostly form, Regulus easily passed through the rock and emerged into another cave hidden behind it.
So far, his journey had been: a cave by the sea, a cave within a cave, and now within that a cavern containing a black lake.
Staring at the pitch-black lake, Regulus finally understood where he had transmigrated to.
At the center of the lake was a small stone island, faintly glowing with green light, refracted and reflected by surrounding crystals.
Seeing this scene, Regulus realized he had entered the world of [HP]. More precisely, he was now in the hidden location where Voldemort had hidden Slytherin's locket Horcrux, deep inside the cave.
Alright, his memory had messed up some parts. That "crawling-on-the-ground Voldemort" thing was something from a fanfic, not canon.
"So this means, once you drink the potion here, the Horcrux will appear," Regulus recalled, trying to dig out the correct details. After all, as a ghost, he had read plenty of [HP] fanfics.
He remembered: one person had to drink the entire potion for the locket to emerge. But the potion caused unbearable thirst, and the lake water around it would become an overwhelming temptation.
However, the water couldn't be touched. If anyone did, the undead lurking beneath would be triggered, dragging the person on the island into the lake, doomed to join the undead guards of the cave.
That was how it happened in the movie and the book. In fanfics, however, authors had come up with all kinds of creative ways to break this curse.
The simplest? Feed the potion to an animal.
Still, he remembered one particular fanfic where the potion had been created by a witch who loved Voldemort. After learning about his Horcruxes and goals, she brewed a potion that would automatically replenish itself but with a hidden effect.
The potion could repair soul damage. She had believed Voldemort himself would be the one to drink it. Clearly, she was wrong.
"Soul repair, huh? Then let me give it a try!" Regulus lowered his head and began drinking.
At first, he thought that being a ghost, he wouldn't be able to physically interact with the potion, just like how he'd passed through the stone door that required blood to open. But to his surprise, he felt the liquid clearly against his lips. Encouraged, Regulus began gulping it down in large mouthfuls.
A soul-cleansing energy washed over him, leaving him in a dazed, dreamlike state. Before he realized it, the potion was gone.
As he reached the bottom of the stone basin, he lifted his head only to see a locket suddenly appear within the now-empty bowl.
Regulus knew this wasn't the real Horcrux. Anyone who had read the original would know that this locket was a fake, the real one had already been taken. The person who did it was now among the undead beneath this very lake, one of its cursed guardians.
Regulus Black, younger brother of Sirius Black, had begun doubting the righteousness of being a Death Eater after noticing Voldemort's dark shift. In the end, he had secretly swapped out the true Slytherin's locket Horcrux.
"Huh… our names are so similar. I guess that might be another reason I was transmigrated here." Regulus walked to the water's edge. With a glance through the surface, he could clearly see countless undead standing motionless below. One of them gave him a strange sense of familiarity.
"I remember you were only 18 when you died… could it be that I'm your reincarnation? Come back now, carrying your unresolved regrets?"
Regulus was just speaking idly, but the words while perhaps not entirely accurate—weren't far off the mark.
"Looks like you were pretty handsome. And yet the movie went and cast some old guy for your role and insisted he was Regulus Black. How rude."
