Chapter 7 - Chapter 7:Slumber

The White Dragon Mother landed steadily, and the nest floor shook slightly. Her huge, slender dragon wings folded against her sides like folding panels. She looked at Garon in puzzlement as he suddenly punched himself, then flicked his tail, throwing something down.

With a thud, it caught Garon's attention.

It was a huge, irregular ice crystal, fully six meters long and three meters thick.

Garon paused slightly, then looked over.

Inside the ice crystal was a snow-white-furred, massive bear-like creature, four meters tall, a true behemoth. There wasn't a single trace of blood on its fur, clearly indicating it hadn't gone through a fierce battle, but had been directly frozen to death.

The Arctic Dire Bear... in the extreme northern ice field, it was considered an apex predator in the food chain.

They were huge, incredibly fierce in battle, and also possessed some spell-like abilities.

Spell-like abilities referred to abilities that had effects similar to spells but were not true spells. They didn't require lengthy incantations, complicated gestures, or certain materials and tools to cast, relying solely on the user's mind and instinct. The concept was similar to what was commonly called innate talent.

However, in front of the White Dragon Mother, who was about to reach adulthood, the Arctic Dire Bear was just prey.

True dragons were, after all, top-level creatures in the various planes, possessing great dominance.

So she did go to prepare food for us. The White Dragon Mother doesn't seem that unreliable after all... Garon thought.

Caring, but not completely caring – that was probably the White Dragon Mother's way of treating her dragonets at this time.

Soon, the White Dragon Mother moved her steps and lay down on the jagged ice bed made of ice crystals, closing her eyes and entering a state of rest.

Seeing that the White Dragon Mother hadn't noticed the missing treasure, Garon breathed a sigh of relief.

Because he had absorbed the energy of that gemstone, Garon now felt a sense of fullness throughout his body and wasn't hungry.

Patting his belly, Garon turned his head and began to gnaw on the frozen dire bear.

He wasn't hungry, but that didn't stop him from continuing to eat.

The ice crystal wasn't as hard as he had imagined in the white dragon's mouth. It shattered upon entering, like snowflake crisps.

Mixed with the fine ice crystals, Garon tore off a large piece of bear paw meat with one bite.

The warm blood, the tough texture of the bear meat, the chewy fascia, mixed with the crumbly ice crystal fragments, surprisingly gave Garon a very delicious sensation.

He had thought there would be an unbearable bloody taste, but now it seemed that the unique taste of dragons could fully accept fresh blood and raw meat.

Soon, Garon buried his head and began to eat.

Dragons were all big eaters, their appetites seemingly never satisfied. Only after eating the two arms, which were the essence of blood and flesh, and consuming more meat than his own body size, did Garon feel full in his belly.

At this moment, a faint dragon roar came from not far away.

Hill shook her head and slowly stood up.

Her face was full of confusion. She felt as if she had lost a segment of her memory, and her head throbbed slightly.

However, after seeing the food, Hill quickly put it behind her and rushed over with shining eyes.

Garon found it amusing and was about to tease his little sister again, but suddenly a wave of sleepiness, originating from every cell in his body, washed over him, making him involuntarily close his eyes, then he was drawn by the cool air of the ice crystal bed.

Immediately afterwards, Garon groggily crawled onto the White Dragon Mother's ice bed and fell asleep next to her.

The White Dragon Mother sensed Garon's approach, opened her eyes, and raised a dragon wing, about to sweep him off the bed.

However, after hesitating for a few seconds, the White Dragon Mother lowered her dragon wing again, closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.

Perhaps, this was her greatest tenderness.

.....

A week later, the blizzard that had lasted for nearly half a month finally slowly subsided, and the sky above the extreme northern ice field became a spotless, clear color, the azure sky like a mirror, clear and beautiful.

However, the entire extreme northern world was still covered in silver, with white snow everywhere, filled with a lonely and cold aura.

Apart from the howling cold wind, there seemed to be no other sounds.

The high-hanging orange sun cast down rays of light that weren't very warm, as if adding a faint golden edge to this white world, and golden sunlight could be seen everywhere.

Dragonets grew quickly, their physique changing almost daily. A week after birth, the dragonets' bones and muscles were already strong, their dragon claws and fangs had begun to show their power, and they could leave the nest and try to hunt.

Garon, the little female dragon Hill, and two other dragon brothers who were born later, were standing in a row at the edge of the dragon nest cave, looking down.

The White Dragon Mother had laid a total of six dragon eggs, but two of them hatched not into true dragons, but into dragon beasts that had not received the Dragon Inheritance. The White Dragon Mother, in front of the several small dragonets, cruelly and ruthlessly threw them out of the territory. They had probably already died in the vast ice field.

Rays of pale golden sunlight slanted down onto the edge of the dragon nest, and after being refracted by the ice crystals, fell on the bodies of the dragonets.

The little female dragon Hill's body had developed a bit in the past week, becoming more slender and powerful. At this time, her body had an extra layer of gold foil-like color due to the sunlight, intertwined with the mirror-like smooth and bright scales on her body, making her look quite beautiful.

The two dragon brothers... skipped.

Garon moved his wide dragon wings, and his body, which had grown larger, gently shifted, pushing his younger siblings to the other side.

Because he had absorbed the energy of the magic gemstone, he hadn't opened his eyes in the past week, almost constantly in a state of deep sleep, growing taller rapidly. He looked like he was in a completely different weight class from the little female dragon Hill and the others.

A few hours ago, Garon had woken up.

When he found that he was actually sleeping right next to the White Dragon Mother, he felt a chill in his heart, but seeing that the White Dragon Mother didn't move at all, he felt relieved again.

And the White Dragon Mother was still asleep, the kind of sleep that wouldn't be disturbed by thunder, no matter how much the little dragonets pushed and called, she remained motionless like a dead pig.

Garon felt that she could definitely sense the dragonets' calls, but she was just unwilling to pay attention, sleeping soundly on her own.

You can never wake a dragon that is pretending to be asleep.

The dire bear meat that the White Dragon Mother had brought back last time had now been eaten by the dragonets with their considerable appetites. Including Garon, they all felt their bellies empty and rumbling.

They were now gathered at the mouth of the dragon nest, which was at the five-hundred-meter jagged position of the steep ice cliff, planning to leave the dragon nest and hunt for themselves nearby.

This couldn't entirely be blamed on the White Dragon Mother's irresponsibility.

Because adult evil dragons generally wouldn't give their dragonets a completely sufficient amount of food, only a portion that could maintain their daily activities, and then let the impatient dragonets hunt small creatures themselves.

This was to train their abilities and hone their claws, teeth, and physique.

Almost every adult evil dragon had gone through this.

As creatures at the top of the food chain, dragonets a week after birth, relying on their hard dragon scales and sharp claws and teeth, already possessed the power to fight ordinary lions and tigers.
