Chapter 2 - Genesis

Out of the drainage, the world greeted him, disconcerting and unfamiliar. Gone were the familiar contours of his hometown, now he faced a landscape that felt both surreal and ominous.

The cars whizzed by with bright, blinding lights, their shapes strangely elongated and their colors unsettlingly vivid to him.

The tarmacked roads shimmered like liquid mercury, twisting and curling in ways that defied logic. Above him, the streetlights flickered in a rhythm that felt almost like a heartbeat, casting eerie shadows that danced upon the ground.

"What the hell is this place?" He paused, then continued. "Can somebody hear me....! How did l get in here?..."

His voice hoarse and raspy as he raised his head on the rainy clouds yelling. A hundred questions jostled in his mind, but the foremost was the vivid memory of falling off that treacherous cliff, the fog-enshrouded abyss that had swallowed him whole.

Lewis was an assassin of unparalleled skills. His life was etched with shadows, his heart encased like a cold steel, and his mind sharp enough to cut through the mists of deception.

He operated in a world twisted by power, where a single life could be extinguished for a price of two bars of gold only to him.

One chilly morning, as dawn painted the horizon with shades of amethys, Lewis sat in his stone cottage, cradling his hands close to the crackling fire.

It was a rare moment of tranquility in a life otherwise marred by chaos. The flickering flames danced like spirits, casting warm light upon his tired face, the previous night, he had gone for a mission, hence momentarily melting away the burdens of his profession.

As he sipped a warm tea to stave off the cold, an unusual occurrence jolted him from his reverie, A thin envelope slipped under his door, the parchment crinkling softly as it landed on the wooden floor. Curiosity piqued, Lewis reached for it, his fingers brushing over the intricate seal of a crescent moon.

There was only one family that owned that seal, the Garcia family.

Inside the envelope were two bars of gold, and a parchment inscribed with the details of his latest

[ Eliminate the governor by nightfall.]

As dusk began to envelop the skies, painting the world in hues of purple and indigo, Lewis stealthily made his way ahead of his target laying an ambush. He took his position behind the trees.

The air shifted, carrying with it the scent of impending rain and a sense of foreboding. Lewis peered through the scope of his crossbow, aimed squarely at his target, a lavishly adorned carriage rolling through the forest, flanked by one guard.

Just as he steadied his breathing, preparing to unleash fatality, a sound pierced the night, an unexpected cry that threaded through the air like a lost melody.

A baby's wail, fragile and heart-wrenching, rose up from inside the carriage. Following a soft, almost pleading voice of a woman, layered with fatigue.

"My handsome grandson, we're soon reaching home, be patient. Right my angel?"

It halted him, a tether pulling him back from the precipice of a decision he hadn't fully grasped, taking a deep breathe.

"Damn it! The governor wasn't the target but the heir of Fernandez!"

Although he was a well know assassin who never misses his target, but he's also know ti having his own principles in his professional. He never kills children and women.

Yet the carriage had an infant with the mother and and old woman from the Fernandez family, not the governor.

"You son of a b*tch! You set me up to kill an innocent child? You will pay for this."

Rubbing his head, he leaned with the rustle of leaves and the whispering winds. The stakes of his mission shifted, the target was not the influential politician but the innocent family at risk because of him, the world around him fell still. Clarity washed over him like a cleansing tide.

Mr. Williams, was a cunning man skilled in the art of deception, held a nefarious plan that transcended mere ambition. It was not the governor he sought to eliminate; rather, it was the heir of the Fernandez, his existence is a threat to him.

Only with his death will he get the chance to become the next governor. So he had to eliminate him at the earliest.

Otherwise, the he will succeed his father.

Although he paid Lewis, still he had to come up with a second plan just incase Lewis finds out that it's not the governor but his family and aborts the mission.

So he placed his six most trusted men, to follow Lewis from the moment he left his house with a strict instructions.

" If he aborts the mission, kill him and complete his mission of killing the kid."

Unbeknownst to lewis, Mr. Williams had anticipated this moment. As rain began to fall in sheets, his spies sprang forth from the shadows like wolves unleashed.

They surrounded Lewis after sensing his gestures as he lowered his crossbow, causing confusion and chaos to erupt in the downpour. The weight of numbers pressed down on him, and in the melee, he instinctively drew his dagger, ready to defend himself.

"Kill him!"

One of the spies commanded, charging forward with a wicked glint in his eye. Lewis deflected the attack but struggled against the tidal wave of enemies pressing upon him. With fierce resolve, he fought like a cornered beast, striking down those who dared to come close.

But his mind raced, thinking only of the innocent child and the mistreatment meted out to innocent souls in the name of power.

"I have to save them." He thought.

The rain tinged with desperation, he grappled with the hushed cries of the child echoing through the night. Realizing the ruse, he made a split decision, veering away from the spies and rushing toward the carriage. The old woman had fallen to her knees, shielding the mother and child.

Unfortunately, the arrow meant for the woman and the child was shielded by her, blood flowed dripping down the floor if the carriage

He quickly pulled the woman with her child and they ran into the woods leaving Mr Williams' men behind as they followed them in a haste.

Lewis had to find a hiding place for the two then he diverted the six men away as he ran to the opposite side. The six men all followed him in a haste.

The thunder roared overhead, lighting crackled in the skies, sounds of heavy footsteps vibrated through the woods.

And that's how his journey began as he transmigrated into the future.
