Professor Sing's face had quickly reverted back to its usual stern expression. She sensed that one of her students had been in danger for a split second and the danger was another student. She could not tell who was in danger and who was the danger, but by Hazel's reaction it was a safe bet that Hazel was the one in danger.
Nothing was going to happen to possibly the greatest diviner ever known. She calmed herself and looked out over the class. "We are all of the Star Academy. You do not need to love each other or even respect each other, but you will never wish harm on your classmates. We are the protectors of our world and of our dimension, when called to do so, and we will not bring harm to each other!
For an alumni of Star Academy betrayal had always been the biggest sin one could ever commit. The Academy had been established due to betrayal. The seven founders had been sent on a mission and returned to find that their families had been slaughtered and their property and money stolen.
This was during a time when the magical world was ruled by the Mage Wizard. A title given to the leader, the individual seen as the strongest and most capable. The problem was the previous mage wizard wanted his son to become the Mage Wizard. So his loving loyal witches and wizards allowed this to be so. No one knew that he was an incapable weakling who hid behind powerful charms, techniques and bodyguards.
When he decided he wanted all of the best weapons in the land everyone handed theirs over except the seven. A year passed and they were sent on a mission only to come back to no property and the bodies of their family members either left for carrion, thrown into mass graves, or placed on mass funeral pyres.
When they realized it was the Mage Wizard's doing their rage was boundless.
And so they purged their world and took down the Mage Wizard and set up a five member council in his place.
Professor Sing was still fuming but her face was relaxed into a slight smile. "Now, Hazel, please continue."
Hazel hesitated. "I was only going to say that an eight point star is much more powerful and it can be made to be self repairing so that you do not need to worry about any more leakage."
"An eight point star" Professor thought for a moment and then quickly snapped out of her reverie.
"Today we will be working with Crystal balls. These are used to help a channeler focus their minds and the content of the divination. But there are other things to help in this such as tarot cards, crystal pendants held in the hands, or something special to the person we are trying to see or personal to the diviner themselves.
"Now remember, as I told you last class. You are trying see the person. There is no reading. This is why we were called seers in ancient times. If you can understand how to focus your mind on seeing and not reading you will be able to do this. Now let's see if anyone besides Elspeth and Rosa can do it this time."
Professor Sing walked over to Hazel.
"If you need a crystal ball we have plenty in the back, but it is…"
"Sorry professor. I have one. But it is a bit unconventional."
Hazel reached into her everything-bag and pulled out a large purple irregular shaped crystal sitting on an eight sided black pedestal. Professor Sing's eyes went wide.
"I haven't seen a mental crystal in a long time. I am glad you keep it safe."
"Can I use this?"
"Of course. Of course. How did you find it?"
"You know my mother works in En? Well she took me to their version of Parson Alley and this burst from a shop window and came to find me. It was rather interesting."
"In En Dimension?" Professor Sing sounded contemplative. It took her a long moment to come back to her senses.
"okay everyone! Okay! Let's begin."
Elspeth and Rosa both got their crystal balls to work fairly quickly but there were gasps throughout the room as Hazel's crystal lit up brightly and showed three broken scenes. No one but Professor Sing, Rosa, and Hazel herself knew that they were three separate scenes.
Professor Sing and Rosa both had their mouths open in disbelief while Hazel finished as if what she had just done was of no real consequence.
Professor Sing smiled just as Rosa frowned. Hazel was more powerful than either of them had imagined.
Hazel looked at the defense against the dark arts book with a frown. She looked up over the spine of the book to Hermione.
"Is there anything worthwhile in here?"
Hermione pursed her lips. "Well, not for the unforgivable curses no."
Hazel let out a heavy sigh and continued looking. She said "hmm", and "ahh", and "oh", a few times, but there was not much more.
She closed the book and placed it flat on her lap and her hands palms down flat on the book. Divining within the dreamscape could be a harrowing experience and the diviner could become lost, dreamers near her could be hurt, or they could even break their own mind.
Hazel had first done this when she was ten and she almost lost herself. That was one of the reasons why she had stopped divination. She had realized she needed a teacher and soon after this she decided she was not interested in more than dream walking.
She opened her eyes.
"I think we should work on protective enhancements, mental defenses, defense against dark creatures, and this Patronus Charm. I know some soul, mental, and illusory magic that also may help defend against these Unforgivable Curses. Other than that I think I will have to figure out a way to experiment."
"Okay." Hermione set forward in excitement. Then she scrunched up her face in confusion. "Why the Patronus Charm."
Hazel shrugged and looked to Harry. "You remember I told you about the day our parents died?" He nodded. "Well I am pretty sure we will need to help Sirius and my sense of discernment says we will need that charm to do so. But we will also need it later as well."
Hermione looked thoughtful. "The one that came to your room after your parents were gone?
"Yes. Our parents called him Sirius. I think he is very important to us. But I do not know where he is."
Ron gulped and they all looked to him.
"Well tell us Ronny."
He rolled his eyes but didn't say anything. Hazel had been calling him that too long now. And he knew it was just in fun.
"Well. They say that he helped He-Who-Can-Not-Be-Named kill your parents and his is now in Azkaban prison."
Harry looked at Hazel sharply and Hazel frowned in thought.
"Sorry I have learned to trust my instincts and they tell me that he had nothing to do with their deaths. I think he was furious that they were hurt and he wasn't there to help them." She spoke shaking her head.
"We won't think about that. Let's start on some protection charms. First those from your dimension and then some from mine."
First they practiced the shield charm (Protego), and a disarming charm (Expelliarmus). Hermione and Hazel both got the charms to work rather quickly while Harry was usually next and Ron would need more help.
"I know this is a lot but I think we should just know all of them and then practice on casting after."
Hermione and Harry both nodded. Hazel looked at Ron and shrugged.
This batch was: the protection against curses (Salvio Hexia).
(Repello Inimicum) repels enemies. (Cave Inimicum) warns of an enemy near.
(Flanto Duri) strengthens a shield.
They were all resting after practicing the four new spells. Hazel looked at them.
"We can work on the ones from Tan Dimension next time."
"Can you tell us what they are?"
"Of course. (Magna Firmamenti) creates a protection dome. I think Flamto Duri and maybe Repello Inimicum could be used with it to make it more effective. (Maxima Magnitudo) this will increase the size of your shield. (Tholus) electrifies the protection dome. (Corpus Illustrant) powerful personal protective dome that hugs the body like it was skin. And the last one was (Defendat Socios) this creates a protective dome over you and your allies.
Hermione and Harry became very excited and wanted to practice the Tan Dimension spells as well. Hazel shook her head.
"No we shouldn't over do things. While you were practicing I did some research on your Azkaban Prison and they use dark creatures called Dementors as Prison guards. Have you heard of them?"
Hermione shook her head and Hazel handed her a book from Star Academy library. Hermione's eyes went wide.
"They drain you of happiness?"
Hazel looked furious. "I am positive that Sirius is innocent. We can use that Patronus spell I was talking about on these dementors. I am going to figure out how to save him.
