Chapter 9 - Friendships can be complicated

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hazel began meeting every other day. This night they sat looking through books from both Hogwarts and Star. Well Hazel and Hermione were reading, Harry and Ron were playing Tan Dimension Wizarding chess. There were four levels of boards. On the first three levels you had to capture the king's true subordinate and on the fourth level you had to capture the king. In order to win you had to either capture all four, capture the king and be able to identify at least two of his subordinates, or capture all three subordinates and checkmate the king.

The subordinates are chosen by the player from the set group of pieces that can be subordinates, and the player can choose to protect or expose the subordinates as they wish from level to level.. therefore the first three levels can be set in various ways dependent in the player's strategy but the final level can only be set one way. Once subordinates are chosen mentally the game locks them in and they can not be changed during the game.

Hazel looked to Hermione. "I think I want to try this Patronus incantation. Have you looked over it?"

"I have, I will try it to."

"What is the incantation?" They both looked to see Harry with his wand out as well.

"Expecto Patronum."

After two tries all three had a successful cast. Hermione's Patronus was an otter, Harry's Patronus was a stag, and Hazel created a long, thick Eastern style dragon. They all watched as it flew around the dreamscape for way longer than was probably needed.

Harry and Hazel sat next to each other, Harry looking at his lap and Hazel reading a book from Star academy library.

"Do you really think that Sirius is innocent."

Hazel looked up at her brother.

"Yes. I am sure of it. I think someone else betrayed them but I was asleep, in another room, and a baby. Babies take note of things that are essentially unnecessary. So now when I think back it is too jumbled." She paused and got a reflective looked on her face.

"If I take divination more seriously I may be able to actually unlock those memories a bit better."

She sighed and bit her lip.

"I guess I will start learning divination again. I really don't want father's best friend in prison."

"But what if everyone is right and he did kill them?"

Hazel looked at him for a long time.

"I trust my sense of discernment and my innate ability. Would you like to do a divination and see what we can see?"

Hermione looked up from her book. She was trying to read all the books from Tan Dimension that she could.

"I really think divination is a waste of time, but if you're doing it things might get interesting." She closed her book so she could get a good look.

Hazel brought her crystal out and placed it on a table before her. She looked into the crystal, her fingertips touching the black base it sat on. She focused and thought about what she wanted to know, she thought about a firm question and let it flow forth and touch the crystal. A soft light bloomed from the base and moved up into the crystal and a scene played out.

Two babies in a baby bed. A noise somewhere else in the house and one of the babies wakes up and looks to the other baby. The scene freezes and then moves back. Outside the room into another room down the hall. The others couldn't tell but Hazel knew that this was a moment probably five or ten minutes before she was awake. Ethereal voices came through the crystal. A man and woman spoke

"Something is wrong. Sirius tried contacting us three times and I can't hear anything."

"Did you do an anti jamming incantation?"

"No. Can you do…"

There was a crash somewhere else in the house and they both stopped. The man spoke first.

"Go and get the kids. Get out of here. I will come find you."

"I can't leave you."

"And we can't leave our children. We talked about this Lily."

She was reluctant but she bit her lip and rose. But it was too late. The bedroom door blew inward and a shortish round man walked in. James Potter had his wand up and ready but when he saw the man he pulled his wand back.

"Peter. What are you doing here?"

"James. Lily. I'm the distraction."

A noise in the hall drew James and Lily's attention. Realization dawned in their eyes at the same time. James yelled an incantation right as Lily stunned Peter with a stupefy spell. James' incantation threw him to the wall and they both ran from the room.

In the hall there were three people. Two were cloaked and the third was a tall man with a smirk on his face.

"I knew Pettigrew would fail. He is so bothersome. Bellatrix the child."

"Bellatrix don't move." Lily had her wand razed and from its glow everyone knew she had a spell locked and loaded and ready to be released. Everyone froze then there was a burst of motion and spells began flying back and forth across the room.

Harry, Hazel, Hermione, and Ron were watching the scene and flinched as they continually heard unforgivable curses being used. Then Voldemort used Avada Kedavra and Hazel's stomach clinched. She looked for James in the scene and her heart twisted just as Harry audibly sucked in a breath.

Lily was staring into James' lifeless eyes. Suddenly she spurred into motion and it seemed like Voldemort and the others were thrown back and she was given a chance to get to Harry and Hazel's room.

Hazel was standing in the crib, worry written on her face and her eyes a soft amethyst.. Lily picked her up and almost stabbed her in the forehead with her wand. Lily adjusted her hold on her daughter and looked around the room frantically, her gaze passing over Harry and his sister several times. She then kicked over a plush armchair, spoke to Hazel and placed her between the wall and the chair. She whispered to Hazel again and ran to Harry and just as she picked him up Voldemort was at the door with a gruesome smile.

He looked to Harry and instantly cast the incantation. Lily fumbled her wand and ended up merely embracing Harry tightly. As the curse hit them both there was a magical explosion. Hazel narrowed her eyes at the scene. She clearly saw backlash.

Had Voldemort been hit by a backlash? She thought about the prophecy and nodded.

When she looked back at the crystal Lily lie lifeless and she and Harry were safe within bubbles as the room burned in magical fire.

Everyone fled the house, the fire died and then Sirius entered, wand in hand. He found James first and fury and sorrow clear on his face. When he finally made it to the bedroom they could all see he was furious. He checked Harry and nodded and then looked around frantically. There was a small noise and he found Hazel. The divination ended with Sirius saying he would be back for them and he was out the door.

Hermione sat back, stunned. Harry was a bit stunned as well but he stared at his sister.

"Your eyes. Your eyes were purple."

Hazel nodded. "It is said that a fatetress knows her fate so well that if it changes she will immediately examine her fate lines to make sure she will be okay. Amethyst eyes is an indicator in a young fatetress that they are looking at fate lines.

"I am now at a level where I do not give away a tell like that anymore."

"Fatetress?"

Hazel looked to Hermione. "It is just a myth."

"But we saw your eyes."

She looked to Ron as he spoke and then to the others, seeing confusion on all their faces.

"No. That part is fact."

They all continued looking at her and she merely cleared her throat.

"We better end here. We did a lot."

They all nodded numbly.

Harry stood and took her into an embrace. When he let her go he looked at her, a serious expression etched on his face.

"I am going with you when you go to Azkaban." She just nodded.

There was quite a bit of envy, at Star Academy, when it came to Hazel. She had a private room. She was very powerful. She was very pretty. She was very nice, always wanting to help others. She was perfect and it annoyed many.

But it did more than annoy Rosa. Rosa hated Hazel. She always had thralls. She learned long ago they helped her in her divination and she learned how to pick the best ones to do this.

Michael was not only excellent for this he was going to last way longer than others. Trace was already sick and she still didn't turn him loose. She knew her family would help her if need be. She had nothing to worry over.

But she did worry. She could still feel her hold on Michael fluctuating in a way that meant she could lose it at any moment.

When she talked to her mother about it she told her that he had a stronger bond with someone else and that it would be better just to cut him loose then continually fight for a thrall.

But her mother didn't know, and she wasn't going to tell her. Michael was too magnificent to let go. And she would never give him back to her.

Especially now that she knew, beyond any doubt, that Hazel was a fatetress like her. No not like her, much, much stronger than her. Rosa ground her teeth in anger.

She would take care of her friend and very soon. A cruel smile spread across her face.
