Chapter 7 - But I'm not interested in divination

Professor Sing was a stern woman. She was very thin, very tall, and very stern. The students of Star Academy often wondered if her facial muscles were capable of creating a smile. Many presumed no.

She was Star Academy's divination professor, the assistant headmistress, and she is currently the head of Sof House.

Her magic is in divination and fate and her current anger was for… Well she wasn't sure who it was for. Maybe McGonagall or maybe his daughter. Professor Song wanted Hazel in her divination class and she wanted her enrolled in it now

She stormed down the hall to the staff offices and, without knocking she swiftly opened the door. Montague McGonagall whipped around, fury clear on his face. When he registered that it was professor Song he calmed a bit he still showed his confusion.

Hazel closed the dimensional gate that she had been working on and she turned to professor Sing.

"My father does not know about my divination abilities professor. You can not be upset with him."

Professor Song smiled broadly, completely forgetting her anger, and stood transfixed. Her smile startled both Montague and Hazel.

"You are a more powerful diviner than I thought. You will start classes next week. You do not need potions study. I hear you are already on a third year level."

"But I am not interested in divination. I am interested in potions though."

Professor Sing looked at her for a long moment then to her father. She sighed. "I will send an owl to your mother." She then turned on her heels and walked away.

All Professor McGonagall could do was thank The-All-That-There-Was that the assistant headmistress had not found out that his daughter was assisting him in traveler class.

"You know that you will have to take divination. "

"But I am not interested in divination"

"But you are interested in traveler's magics. If she finds out how advanced you are in all of your subjects." He sighed and Hazel fully understood. But all she could do was repeat herself.

"I am not interested in divination."

"I know love." Her father put an arm around her and led her away like he had just given her very bad news.

Hazel, Harry, Hermione, and Ron were sitting on the dreamscape discussing Voldemort.

"I understand why these books are so hard to obtain in our library. This man was a horror."

"Exactly and you call his name like it means nothing."

"Well his name does not mean anything." Ron threw his hands up in the air in exasperation.

"He has killed and tortured with the unforgivable curses. We need to learn counter spells or defensive spells strong enough to repel them." They all nodded in agreement.

"So what are the unforgivable curses?" Hermione quickly answered.

"There are three unforgivable curses they are so horrible that they have been banned from use. They are the killing curse, the crucitaus curse, and the imperius curse.

"The imperius curse allows you to take control of someone. The crucitaus curse allows a witch or wizard to enter a mind and it is often used to torture and if used excessively on someone it may cause them to go insane. Finally the killing curse is just as it sounds. It kills instantly."

Ron swallowed hard, his expression nervous. Harry's eyes were opened wide, and Hazel's lips were pursed as she nodded. Hermione smiled thinking she did well with her explanation.

"I will continue looking for counter spells and defensive measures. I think all of the Deatheaters also know all of these curses as well. We need to prepare well."

"Deatheaters?" Harry asked in confusion looking between his sister and Hermione. Hermione looked to Hazel, reflecting Harry's confusion in her own face.

"They are Voldemort's followers. No one really knows who they are but, in the past, hooded individuals would commit cruelties in the name of Voldemort.

We will need to be ready for them. I think we should practice defense against the dark arts soon. We need to look…"

Hazel looked up into the sky with a frown.

Harry was immediately worried and stood and followed his sister's line of sight.

"What's wrong?"

"Sorry my mom is calling me. We better end today. She is probably going to talk about something that happened at school."

"Your mom?"

Hazel looked to Hermione. "I'll explain it to you later. Sorry."

"No we understand."

She gave Harry a quick hug and everyone left as one.

Hazel's eyes opened. She had been in the library to make sure she had access to the books she needed to be accurate in their discussion. Her mother already knew the level of her traveler magics and so Hazel was not surprised to see a closed dimensional door that she needed to unlock before her. She looked at the door and saw that it came from En Dimension so she pulled out her beech wood wand with a dragon heartstring core.

Could she have used her Tan Dimension wand? Of course she could but she was actually quite proud of herself for having two wands choose her. So she needed to use her beech wand sometimes.

She took her wand out swirled it around a few times and activated her incantation "Aperta!" The door was slow to open and Hazel frowned. It was a standard dimensional door. She nodded in understanding and allowed it to open as it wished.

"I thought we talked about everything young lady."

Her mother was speaking even as she stepped through the door. She saw that they were in the library and she shook her head.

"We do mother."

"Mmm. You are still sleeping in the library? If you tell me everything I would know that you were skilled at divination."

"Yes ma'am but not often. I am sorry. I did not want you to force me into taking divination class."

"But it is your innate ability. You know that if you do not exercise your innate ability you can hinder you full ability."

"But I walk the dreamscape all the time and this is an aspect of divination."

"I want you in the class Hazel. What if you have a slip? You need to understand what to do and you will only learn that in divination class."

She was right and Hazel hated it. She also gave her that pleading look that always made Hazel give in.

A slip dealt with fate lines and could cause a person to become lost within fate, lost from fate or have your fate mixed up.

"Yes mother. But I do not want to give up potions."

Her mother smiled broadly. "You won't. You will give up travelers." She looked back at the dimensional door she had just used and Hazel rolled her eyes and almost face palmed. It was a test and she passed, or failed depending on how you saw it.

"Fine. I get it. But I get to go to three extra quidditch matches."

"I am not sure if you have any room for negotiation young lady."

"But mum you know practice is important and…"

"Do not start. We both know you will never stop practicing your traveler's magic. And when I tell your father that you understand dimensional fold travel." She just shook her head and moved back to the door.

Hazel sighed in resignation.

Hazel sat in the middle of the room. As soon as she entered she saw how the chairs were in a star shape. She knew this to be a channeling star. It was only a five point start but it was easier to inscribe and maintain. Hazel chose to sit in the right center of the star so that she was not affected by it and she was not affecting it.

"And why are you here traveler?"

Hazel rolled her eyes when she heard the voice. It was Elsbeth, she wanted Rosa as her best friend and saw Hazel as a disturbance.

"Are you not a diviner Elsbeth? Do a divination and tell us all."

Hazel sighed when Rosa began speaking. Now she was firmly planted in the middle of something.

"um… Rosa.. well… I"

Rosa completely ignore Elsbeth.

"Why are you sitting there?"

"Very good question Rosa." Professor Sing entered the room and she was not full on smiling but she was not frowning either. She looked at Hazel and actually smiled. There were a few gasps in the room but no one said anything. Hazel sighed but she did not want to answer. She felt Rosa staring at her and her stomach knotted. She really had to get this girl out of her life. She only had her in her life because she still wanted Michael in her life.

"I did not want to be a part of the channeling star." Professor Sing smiled broader as the entire class looked down to understand what she was talking about.

"Very good. No what can you tell us about our channeling star?"

Was this a true test or was she trying to see if she could help her with a channeling star.

"Well. It is a five point star and they are stable and can be powerful because five is a good number for witches and wizards.

"The problem, is you have several points of leakage in you channeling. It seems that you had some very powerful students at some point and it has worn the star a bit. Where these powerful students sat there is seepage.

"Now an eight point star..."

Hazel stopped as she had sensed a half of a moment where someone behind her wanted to hurt her very badly. She didn't look around but she did not continue either.
