CHAPTER 11
Blood rushed out of his face as he heard the question, he thought he had evaded it but it seemed like she wouldn't let it go till she got an answer.
"Yeah I do," he admitted, a satisfied smile creeped onto her lips as she spoke.
"What do you know about it?"
"Well I was standing in the crowd and watched the angel attack the man, then after a while of fighting he was pinned to the gate." He lied, Even he wouldn't believe the words that came out of his mouth but he hoped it would be enough for her.
"So how did you get the injuries?" she pressed, trying to get more insight on the situation.
"Collateral damage," he answered with a fake smile as he fixed his eyes on the suddenly breath taking table, she smiled, everything seemed to add up but something wasn't right, she wanted to ask more questions but she didn't want him to feel invaded and leave so she decided to stop.
"Ok," she said as she let out a sigh and stood up, leaving him sitting on th long chair
"So what do you want to—" , before she could finish talking he felt heavy vibrations through out the floor.
"GET DOWN!!!" He ordered and jumped towards her, swiping her off her feet and landing them both on the ground, immediately they touched the ground a yellow beam passed through the building incinerating everything in its path.
"What was that" she asked, fear present in her grey eyes and panic filling her voice.
"Nothing good." he said through gritted teeth as he took to his feet and looked at the damage, There was a giant hole still burning hot that ran through the entirety of the house.
He took in a deep breath and looked through the hole and just a few meters away stood a devil, standing at almost 7 feet tall, it had the body shape of a human but with much more muscles, the skin was a vibrant shade of purple and thick with lines that looked like scars over it, instead of a head sitting on its neck there were two long spiraling horns that where covered with a golden aura, it stood with one leg infront of the other and arms spread wide in a welcoming position.
He looked at the ominous being infront of him and his heart raced, he looked back at her, eyes filled with fear as she pondered her fate, he wasn't going to let her get hurt, he jumped out the hole and landed outside the house, immediately his foot touched the ground a small yellow beam shot at him from the gap between the devil's hands but he easily evaded it, the devil brought its hands closer and another beam began to form, this time the color was a bit more harsh, as it shot at him the intensity of its power shot him away, throwing him into the building. He looked at his chest and he had been badly burned by the attack, he stood to his feet and rushed through the hole, going as fast as he could, he appeared in front of the devil and swung a heavy fist but the devil shifted it's body slightly and he completely missed, realizing how bad a decision he had just made he tried to block his exposed side but was shot away by another beam that blew him away, he touched his side and winced in pain, yet again he stood to his feet and looked at the demon that just stood there and watched him
"PATHETIC" a feminine voice filled with static said, he looked around wondering where the sound was coming from and realized he was the only one hearing it, it was from the devil that stood before him
"YOU HAVE YET TO MASTER WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVING" it said again, the voice echoing loudly in his head
"DISGUSTING" it said as it turned around and began to walk away, he grunted as he stood up and wanted to follow it but something told him death would be certain if he got to close so he decided to walk back to the house, the hole in the wall had broken off and turned into a hug gap close to the door, he walked through the hole and saw her sitting on the floor, hugging her knees and mumbling something, something he couldn't understand, he came close to her and knelt infront of her, she did not notice him, he could now hear her words more clearly.
"Not again, not again, not again, not again, not again, not again—" she repeated as she rocked back and forth, he gently placed his hand on her shoulder immediately snapping her out of her daze, Her head shot in his direction, she looked at him with wide eyes filled with fear and jumped on him, her hand's wrapped around his neck as she let out quiet sobs
"It's ok, it's gone," he assured, Holding her close and brushing her silky soft hair with his palm.
*Now is my chance to walk away, to leave before she finds out what I did* He thought but he still did not move, Why?, the answer evaded him and all he knew was how much she needed his arms around her at this very moment.
After a few seconds he felt her pull away and clumsily wipe away her tears, she hurriedly stood to her feet and put on a smile, a smile he immediately knew was fake.
"I guess I can't live here anymore," she said jokingly, attempting to keep her voice light but the brief cracks in her words gave her away. she came closer to the destroyed wall and looked around what was formerly her home.
"Are you ok?" he asked softly as he stood to his feet, Her words sounded happy but the look in her eyes was the same look his mother had every time she looked at him when he was in pain, Filled with despair.
"Yeah, yeah it's just a hous.." before she could finish her sentence she felt him wrapped his arm's around her and pull her towards him, he said nothing, just engulfing her in his warmth in silence, he hugged her and before she knew it she was hugging him back and closing her eyes was all she could do to stop the relenting tears from pouring out.
"I'm sorry" he apologized, as he felt a warm liquid trickle down his chest and her quiet sobs come back.
