CHAPTER 1
The high winds sent the sounds of creaking reverberating through the small wooden house like a subtle reminder of the buildings fragility, He laid awake on his bed staring at the ceiling and listening to the rhythmic creaks when he heard her gentle footsteps, His mother walked to him with a forced smile He was all to used to, He sighed and winced in pain as he struggled but managed to raise himself from his lying position, His body up, he lifed his legs from the bed and placed them on the ground, as the sole of his feet made contact with the cold concrete floor pain shot through him like he had just stepped on a nail, gritting his teeth and closing his eyes was all he could do to stop himself from screaming. She knelt before him and cupped His face in her palms
"My child" she said with a saddened voice, she let go of his face and began taking off his old bandage's, as she unraveled the bandages tears filled her eyes at the sight of his body, no matter how much she saw it it always brought her to tears, his ribs could be seen clearly as if there was no flesh, his arms thin and his legs only slightly wider that her wrist, he wasn't even skinny he looked like he had been dead for months, she wiped away her tears and bundled up the used bandages then she picked up new ones and began wrapping it around him
"Raise your hands" she requested softly, He complied, his body aching painfully with every bit of movement he made, she continued to wrap fresh bandages around his body while he just stared blankly at the floor with sunken in eyes waiting for her to finish her daily routine, turning his head he looked at her and wondered
"Why?"
He looked at her with eyes full of sadness "Why do you care for me mother, doesn't my existence bring you pain" he asked softly making sure not to strain his vocal cords
"You are my child, that should be enough of an answer" she replied calmly and looked at him with a warm smile
"It doesn't make sense" he argued taking his eyes away from her away from her, she looked at him and smiled as she finished wrapping the bandages, she gently laid him back down on his bed and covered him up with his blanket.
"People tend to do senseless things for the ones they love". She replied as she turned around and grabbed her cloak "I'm heading out, I'll be back within the hour." she announced before he heard the sound of the door open and shut, the sound of her footsteps grew distant till finally he could hear them no more.
Once again he was alone with his thoughts and his mind fixated on the words his mother had said
"People tend to do senseless things for the one's they love" That meant that man never felt the slightest bit of love for him or his mother, His father was a tall tale to him, never spoken of but sometimes his mind would drift and imagine what life would have been like if he had been here, One day his mother had come home drunk and upset and said
"The bastard knocked me up and left..." then she fell asleep, he would always remember her tone, filled with sorrow but never regret, maybe that was the reason why she hadn't abandoned him, because she knew how it felt to be discarded like a rag, your feelings not even taken to consideration, From there he painted himself a picture, his father was scum, and he felt nothing but the greatest kind of hate and disgust towards him, But even that wasn't enough for her to put up with him for this long, What was his life but pain, from the moment he was born he was incredibly fragile, bones too weak, skin to soft, the bare minimum of movement would bring him pain, heat and cold would peel at his skin and if he dared talk louder than a whisper he would be coughing out blood the rest of the day, He had never set foot outside the confides of his house, he had no idea of what other people were like, the only other person he had seen in his twenty one years of life was his mother, she brought no visitors but would always go out and return with stories to entertain him and his thoughts, She remained the only constant he could count on, nothing else was assured, not even if he'd see the next day.
He deeply resented the life he lived and everyday he prayed to die to ease of the stress of his poor mother but Occasionally he would also feel resentment towards her for keeping him alive and even bringing him into this world, that feeling never lasted though. He closed his eyes and decided to indulge in his dreams filled with imagination of butterflies and bright skies, blue oceans and green plants, the smell of flowers and food, the sight of the birds flying happily through the sky, all the beautiful things she had told him about but alas he would always wake up to the harsh reality that was his life, his eyes watered at the thought and suddenly it came across his mind, an idea he had never deared to think of because of fear for his life, but what was this life he clinged to with so much effort, it wasn't in the cards for him to get better, he would just be a dead weight to his mother till he passed or she did, whichever came first. With motivation that not even gods could calm he moved his legs, ignoring the pangs of pain that shot up his whole body and placed his legs on the floor immediately the sole of his feet touched the ground immense pain shot straight to his spine, he let out a heart wrenching scream but he didn't stop, he sat up and with his body in a constant tremble he got up from his bed and stood to his feet, holding onto a stick placed at the side of his bed,he used it to balance himself as the aches got worse but still he didn't stop, he took one step and another with every step his body shook and shivered as the aches and pain progressed, he got to the door and pushed it but it didn't budge, he tried again but the same outcome, he tried and tried and tried but there was no hope of the door opening he had little strength and a frame to timid to even try to break it, he felt his motivation dying slowly but before it completely died he decided to try one more thing, he held the door and pulled it towards him and with a gentle creek it opened widely, breeze blew gently against his skin and the soft rays of sunlight illuminated the interior of the house, Luckily the winds had stopped and the environment was now warm, he felt a sense of accomplishment as he looked at the world beyond the doors, a smile crossed his lips as he stepped his foot outside the building but it didn't last long as he felt a scorching heat hit him
"Arghhhhhhh!!!" He screamed with pain as the heat from the heat from the sun began to burn his fragile skin, he fell to his knees and began to breath heavily, The pain was immense but.....he had made up his mind and nothing could change it, not even death, he would rather die here right now than on that bed ten years from now or how ever long he would last
"Sorry mother" He quietly said to himself, he slowly staggered to his feet and looked around, his eyes weren't used to such bright light, it was blinding but thankfully his eyes were adapting fast, he looked around and it was exactly how she had describe it, the blue skies where bright and vibrant the flowers and weeds that grew around the house where beautiful, the smile came back to his lips as he breath in the air, it was fresh, it was refreshing, ignoring the burning pain he looked at the walking path his mother had created and was about to follow it when he felt a warm breeze blow against his face, he looked at the direction from which it came and far ahead were mountains, he smiled as he saw his goal and began to slowly walk towards it, One painful step at a time.
