It was late night, I stood outside the house waiting for Ethan to come home. I called hik some minutes back, and he made it known to me that he is on his way home. I need ti thank him for bringing me home.
He was strongly against me getting married to Ryan, but since I insisted, he did not push further.
We both attended the same university, and unfortunately I found out, he had a crush on me. It was just a crush, and that was before we found out our parents were seeing each other.
I was privileged to gain scholarship into one of the prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, and thats all thanks to my mother.
Ryan's friends told me about the crush, but when I asked him, he denied. Who knew our parents were inlove and would get married someday.
He admitted to having a crush on me when we became siblings. And since then, he's been doing all he can to protect me and Lisa as his little sisters.
I'm grateful I had someone like him as a big brother. He's been protecting and caring ever since our parents got married. He knew I wasn't happy in my marriage, but because I choosed to stay, he turned a blind eye.
The horn of his car got my attention. I turned to the direction of the gate to see him drive into the mansion. I lead my way towards the parking lot, with a small smile laced on my face.
I wouldn't want him to see me unhappy. Yes, I'm not happy how things turned out, but regardless I need to be myself and move on without Ryan.
"Hey! I am sorry I kept you waiting." He apologized, as he pushed his door open, stepping out of the car. His hands open for me to embrace him, which I proceeded to.
"No need to apologize, I decided to wait for you out here. I wanted to see you, heard from Lisa thst you were worried" I pulled out from the hug, the smile not leaving my face.
He sighed, accompanied by a smile. "Yes, I was, but now that you are home, I am settled." He responded, pressing the lock on his car.
I'm a bit nervous, I wouldn't want to bring my marriage up, and I also didn't want him to ask me anything about it. When father came back, he acted like nothing happened, and also insisted, they will announce me as the heir to the company.
"Thank you for bringing me home, you are a good big brother." I complimented, extending my hands to pull him for another hug. I'm blessed to have people who genuinely love me.
"I'm glad you are home, your happiness is the most important thing." He responded while reciprocating the hug.
"Do you really want to be the heir? This is your family."I said. I have no right to be the heir when he is the first born son, and also the rightful heir to the company. We were privileged because his father fell inlove with my mother.
"It's also your family Emily! And you have to accept their decision as the heir. You know what happened."
He need not reminding me about the last four years. I am sure they are thrilled the marriage ended, but wouldn't show how happy they are. I know my mother is the happiest of them all, but will still act like she's hurting.
"The meaning of this family is more important to me than anything else, and I have decided to stay here." I assured him. Now that I am back home, there's no going back to my words.
He cast me a smile, reaching to my hands.
"This is what you should be saying. Now let's go inside, I'm exhausted." I nodded, and we both walked inside the house.
We live in a giantic mansion with a sleek marble facade, large windows and an ivy, covered exterior stands on a sprawling estate.
It features lush gardens, a pool, a guest house, tennis court, multiple luxurious rooms including bedrooms, lounges, a library, a gym and a ball room, all connected by grand hall ways.
Two weeks later.
We had to attend a celebrity business banquet, where only the rich, famous and upper class, almost all of them were invited. The gathering was not opened to the public, and as early as a few blocks away, bodyguards set up roadblocks to prevent paparazzi from taking photos.
As we arrived at the venue, I got out of the limousine, in my dress, holding Ethan's arm. I flash him a smile, which he reciprocated that instant, holding firmly to me.
Behind us were our parents, and Lisa. Father was holding both of them in his arms.
Lisa and his mother went for a short dress that's stop's their mid-thigh, revealing their beautiful long dress.
I wanted something like that, but because of the scars on my body I couldn't.
I was putting on a sleek, floor-length gown with long fitted sleeves, a modest neckline, and a flowing, elegant skirt, my hair parked into a ponytail.
We walked on the red carpet, striding foward into the building. The place was crowded with countless beautiful men and women, drinking and conversing.
As we stride further, it didn't take longer before I came into the view with Zara being photographed, holding Ryan's arms closely, looking like a happy couple. I had only been gone for two weeks, I guess she's the lady of the house now.
Seeing Ryan again made me feel a little sad and lost. What I wanted, someone else was having it without trying hard. Ethan patted my hand and nodded reassuringly. "I am here for you" he must have followed my gaze and saw them.
I nodded in understanding, and flashing him a small smile. As soon as we were close enough, Ryan greeted someone. I don't know how, but Zara looked in my direction, came over to me incredulous, with a condescending smile on her face.
I hope she is not here to mock me, I won't take further insults from her. She can have Ryan to herself.
"How can you, of your lowly status, come here? This is no place for you!" She said, giving me a scornful look. Her face evident of how she despises me being here. "I can't believe they let you in here, you witch." Before I could say anything, I heard Ethan threw her a question.
"Which family enterprise do you stand for ?" Ethan questioned, diverting her attention to him. I bet she can't respond because she belongs no where.
Immediately she say Ethan next to me, she was astound. She must probably think I got my a powerful man, and can't wait to show him my true colors, tell all sort of lies about me.
She had this sweet and innocent smile, as she turned to Ethan, ready to reply him.
"Do you know who you are dealing with? You must have been deceived by her. Please be aware that she was divorced just last month and thrown out…"
Ethan looks very gentle, acting as if he knows nothing. "It's a bit rude to talk about her like that in front of her, don't you think?"
She let out a mocking laughter, clearly irritated. "I see you have fallen into her prey. She's a pretend, and wants you clearly for your money"
I have never wanted to punch someone as much as I want to these minutes. If there's anyone who wants money, isn't that why she's been clingy to Ryan ?
"You should mind your business, and next time do not call her a low life." Ethan warned, and held my hands ready to walk away.
I watched her expression, she couldn't stop staring at our entwined hands, clearly hurting.
Just when we were about to leave, Ryan looked in my direction, our eyes met, and that instant, I felt something clutch in my chest.
