Chapter 18 - Aftermath

Levin just stared blankly as the figure of the boy – Mattheus – disappeared slowly from his sight. The boy didn't even say anything about the damage he inflicted on the area or Chen Ze's equipment, just vanishing from the spot as if this was none of his business, leaving him alone to deal with the aftermath. He just shook his head in amusement, finding the boy pretty interesting.

Of course, he didn't take seriously when the boy said he did something that made the boy distracted in his last shot. He pretty much guessed some of the smaller debris flew in the right moment and caught the boy's attention which allowed his shot to meet its target.

"Uncle!" Mira's voice suddenly snapped Levin from his thought. When he turned around, he saw the little girl standing in the ruin of Chen Ze's previous lair before with a sad face, holding the ruin – or the corpse – of the robot eagle that was destroyed during the fight earlier. "It is broken already!" She said, trying her best to hold back her tears.

Levin tried his best to hold back laughter from coming out of his mouth as he saw the girl's miserable expression. Even though Mira was another player who was deemed the strongest warrior from her original world, Levin couldn't see her as more than any normal girl who just hit her teenage years. In the end, he just patted her back gently, saying, "Don't worry, Chen Ze will be able to fix it or create an even better robot than this eagle."

In the end, the girl just nodded silently, looking at what remained from the robot eagle pitifully.

Speaking of Chen Ze, the scientist currently was still on Levin's back. Levin himself didn't even notice that he carried more baggage in his bag during the fight. That just showed how thin and unfit the scientist was not only to compete in the game, but even to live like a normal person. It seemed that he had to reassess his choice to work together with the man after he fulfilled his part of the negotiation.

"So, how are you doing? Are you okay? I didn't throw you too hard, right?" Levin suddenly asked, remembering how badly the girl was affected by the gravity pressure from Mattheus before.

"No, fortunately, I managed to get out of his range because of you." She said. Then, she paused for a moment before a small pout formed on her face. "Still… Uncle, did you have to throw me so hard straight to the windows? I am so lucky that the scatters didn't hurt me at all."

"Sorry, sorry. At that time, that was the only thing I could think of to save you." Levin apologized immediately.

The girl threw away her face immediately as if she was about to throw a tantrum. However, it didn't even last more than ten seconds before her expression softened as she said, "Fine! But you have to be gentler and more careful about me in the future, okay?" She offered her pinkies for Levin.

In the end, Levin just chuckled a little, feeling that he grew softer whenever he communicated with the girl. Still, he didn't hate this feeling at all. "Sure." He nodded, entangling his pinkies to her.

After that, silence fell among them as they didn't know what to do. Normally, they would've fled away from the spot as quickly as possible, fearing that the fight earlier would bring attention to more people who probably were even stronger than them. However, this was also Chen Ze's place earlier, and somehow, they both felt guilty since they knew that it was their presence who brought the boy – Mattheus – here.

Fortunately, it wasn't too long before Chen Ze finally regained his consciousness again.

"Urgh…" The scientist groaned. "What is going on? Why does my body feel so much pain?" He asked weakly.

"Welcome back, Sleepyhead." Instead of answering the question, Levin decided to greet the man sarcastically. "It should be good to sleep that long, right? Unfortunately, the sleep itself cost you all of your robots and your residence too." That was when all the memories of what just happened in the last couple of hours rushed into Chen Ze's head, and the scientist finally proceeded with what Levin just said.

"No…" The scientist whispered, staring at the building, that only its ruin was left in front of him in horror. "No! Not my baby!" He wailed indignantly, jumping from Levin's back, and rushed to the ruin with the burst of energy that Levin and Mira didn't expect at all. "Where is my baby?! Come on, Eggly! You must be okay! Microbots! Wake up and help me find Eggly!" He shouted. After that, the microbots that a moment ago lay pitifully on the ground rose instantly with new vitality before scanning through the area nearby to find this 'Eggly' that Chen Ze was searching for.

Levin himself was dumbfounded, not by Chen Ze's dramatic and exaggerated reaction, but by the fact that the microbots seemed to work perfectly even after facing the crazy gravitational power from Mattheus's ability before. They all just went like a bunch of animals, pretending to die to fool the predator before waking up when the danger had gone already. This was something that even he who came from a pretty modern world didn't expect at all. This also changed his evaluation of the man's technology.

"Uncle, who is Eggly?" Mira's question snapped Levin from his thought. He also turned around to the scientist, curious about who made him act like this.

"It is my baby eagle!" He cried miserably. "He is gone now!"

Levin and Mira were dumbfounded once again before they both exchanged glances. It was just a moment ago that Mira took its corpse (?) and saved it for Chen Ze, knowing that this robot eagle should be important to the scientist. They just didn't know how important it was until they saw Chen Ze's current reaction.

"Uncle…" Mira spoke hesitantly, gaining Chen Ze's attention. Then, she took what was left of the robot eagle from her pouch and said, "Is this your Eggly? I am sorry! The enemy accidentally destroy this!" She closed her eyes quickly as if getting ready to get scolded by the man.

Chen Ze himself didn't answer it immediately. When he heard what Mira said, he snatched what was left of his baby away from Mira's hand and started scanning it with his eyes. Levin furrowed his brows at the man's rudeness toward Mira, yet decided to save it for later. He was also curious about what the man was going to do since in his mind, this wasn't something that a normal mechanic could repair easily.

He was bound to get flabbergasted, though, as in the end, Chen Ze finally sighed in relief before saying, "Well, it is not bad. Even though the exterior is destroyed, the chip itself is still safe and intact. I just need to build it again from scratch, and that is something that the Microbots could do even without my instruction. Good."

"Really?!" Mira widened her eyes in surprise. She also couldn't hide the delight in her eyes at the good news since she herself was pretty attached to Chen Ze's robot eagle.

"Of course, it is true!" Chen Ze puffed his chest as if he had just done something awesome. "Even though the maintenance factory couldn't – and wouldn't – do it, I can still command the microbots to do so for me! Come on, Microbots! Start working!" He clapped his hand, and to Mira's awe, in the next few seconds, about 20 to 25 spider microbots crawled from the ruins, starting to work together like a colony of ants

They spent another few seconds in silence as those three just stared at the microbots doing their work to fix the robot eagle's body. In the end, it was Chen Ze himself who – after being calm enough to think about everything – decided to ask, "So, what is really going on here? And why did my house get destroyed so badly like this?"
