When Levin and Mira arrived at Chen Ze's residence – no, it was not his previous residence that was destroyed by Mattheus yesterday. The scientist moved out to a place that was still intact even after yesterday's brutal fight – Levin had to hold back the urge to strangle and kidnap the scientist straight away. After all, what he saw here was so outrageous he was curious about what was inside the man's brain.
Here, right after they entered the building, they were greeted by the robot eagle that was flying so seamlessly as if it were a real thing. Mira had her eyes shining brightly when she saw that. After all, she was the one who picked up its corpse yesterday. So, seeing the robot eagle was revived, it wasn't exaggerating to say that she was ecstatic.
Of course, she who didn't live in a technological world didn't understand the implication behind the robot eagle's presence here. The girl probably thought it was easy for Chen Ze to fix that. However, Levin did live in that kind of world, and he was still dumbfounded at the sight of the robot eagle flying as if it hadn't been destroyed yesterday.
Levin didn't know how Chen Ze did that. After all, he saw the ruins of the robot, and even though the computer chip itself was safe, it would take time for Chen Ze to build another body for the robot. So, for the scientist to do that in one night was definitely unheard of, and Levin had to hold back the urge to interrogate the man to spill all of his secrets.
"Ah! Here you are!" Chen Ze's voice suddenly snapped him from his thoughts. When Levin turned around, he could see the scientist had probably the darkest sleeping bag he had ever seen, ruining his somehow handsome face with the dark circle around his eyes. "I see that Mira has seen my little baby alive again?" He said with a fond smile.
Mira, who was giggling and playing around with the robot eagle, nodded instantly, a sheer happiness could be seen in her eyes. "Um! I like this robot eagle very much, Uncle!"
"Hmm… Is that so?" Chen Ze pondered for a moment. "Maybe, I should make you one later in the future." Levin felt the corner of his lips twitched, looking at the man speechlessly. If it were yesterday, he would never have believed that Chen Ze could make another robot this good in this world. After all, let's not mention the fact that the technology here was far from the modern world – hell, if anything, this world looked like it didn't have any technology at all – even the materials to make the robot would be hard to obtain.
However, after looking at the robot eagle that was flying around as if it hadn't been destroyed yesterday, Levin didn't know what to think of Chen Ze's proficiency with technology anymore. Even if the scientist said that he could make a robot for Mira in the future – which looked like it was impossible – Levin wouldn't brush it off so easily again.
"Really, Uncle?!" Mira's eyes widened, shining in excitement. Of course, Mira didn't know Levin's complicated thoughts. However, as a 10-year-old girl, the prospect of getting a cute robot as her companion was of course more exciting than anyone else. "Are you sure you want to make me one? You cannot break your promise, okay? Or you will find your eyes stabbed with a thousand needles in your sleep!" She stared at the scientist with the intensity that only a child of her age could muster, not knowing how creepy the consequence of the promise she made to the scientist was.
"Sure, Young Lady." Chen Ze just nodded amusedly before turning around at Levin. "So, what brings you here? Other than your gun, of course. Oh, by the way, there it is!" Suddenly, a microbot came out of nowhere, bringing Levin the gun that he let the scientist borrow for a night. "Fully charged, good as new!" The scientist exclaimed.
Levin seemed to get tired of being shocked, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, or whatever expression to show his amazement here, especially when he saw that his laser gun was as good as new. He didn't know how Chen Ze did it, especially without any source of electricity around. Hell, he didn't even see the trace of dismantlement, and he knew that there was no way the scientist would resist the temptation to do that. So, for Chen Ze to figure out everything just in a night, Levin had to put his hat off toward the scientist.
Still, there was no way he would say it out loud.
"Anyway!" He coughed, clearing his throat. "It seems we have an upcoming problem here." Chen Ze crooked one of his eyebrows slightly, curious about what the soldier was about to say. After hearing Levin's description, he also furrowed his brows, finding it to be a problem too.
"Yeah, even though I still have some food left, that wouldn't be enough to last more than three days. It seems that we have to find a solution before we are dying of starvation."
Of course, it was a bit exaggerated. After all, as long as their need for water was still met, any normal human being could live without food for at least a week or even more. This was even a different case for Levin who had trained for so many years in a harsh condition during his military years. He could even live longer without food compared to any normal human being, probably about twenty days. However, going out without food for several days would definitely affect his performance, and in a world where a live-or-death fight situation could happen at any time, Levin had to stay in his prime all the time so that he wouldn't get blindsided in the future.
"Okay, wait a second." Chen Ze suddenly whistled, and the robot eagle that was playing with Mira suddenly perked, flying immediately toward him. "Go fly over the forest and scout any normal living being there. Don't go too far to the mountain on the left side of the forest, okay?" The scientist commanded.
To Levin's surprise, the robot eagle nodded its head, spread its wings, and flew immediately to the outside world. He had his jaws dropped before asking, "It can respond to a voice-based command?!"
"Yup! My greatest invention!" Chen Ze stared at the robot eagle that started to disappear from his sight with a proud face.
"Uncle, where is Eggly going?" Mira asked, curious.
"Oh, Eggly is going to be the one who solves our food problem!" The scientist patted the girl's head gently. Then, he opened up his laptop – once again, Levin wondered how did the man fix that after the laptop was destroyed by Mattheus yesterday – and showed real-time footage of what the eagle saw. "Now, the food-searching operation begins!"
