Chapter 9 - Oh God, did I leave something on the stove?

By the time the wolf man woke up, it was already evening, and beside him was... Micheal, resting his head on the bed while sitting on the floor.

He was fast asleep.

"How can you drop your guard so much when there's someone else in your house?" He asked in a low tone as he sat up. His head ached, causing him to grimace in pain. "Ugh," he exclaimed and looked up.

He tried to recall what had happened for him to suddenly pass out. It was during his transformation. It was just a simple task of transforming into a pup, so why did he pass out?

"I'm not that weak," he said with a husky voice. "That little shouldn't put me down but..." He looked around, noticing the sun was already going down. "... I seem to be weak at this point. I cannot venture out in this state."

He looked at Micheal. He planned to use this opportunity to the fullest.

He dropped his feet from the bed, planning to stand and look around when he caught sight of the clothes Micheal had prepared for him.

He wore them right away. After all, he did feel a little bit of shame walking around a stranger with nothing on.

He was just too preoccupied with his situation to think of it.

The shirt fit perfectly, and so did the pants. They looked like they came in a pair. White sweatpants and a shirt.

"What does this one think about me?" He asked, looking at Micheal as he walked past him and towards the door.

He headed out and went to the kitchen. There was nothing in the pots but when he opened the fridge, he found it was packed with foodstuff.

He picked up a carrot, tilted his head in wonder, and then sighed. He was useless in this regard.

"I will wake him up." He said but then paused.

He was living in this house, in regards that he was useful enough and not a burden.

"Then, do I work for him?" He asked but his eyebrows furrowed, upset at this idea. "I am an Alpha. How can I be the servant of a human? They are supposed to bow and worship me."

This was his ideology but in his current situation... Beggars couldn't exactly be choosers. So, he was forced to cook. A mistake of his life.

Micheal, who was fast asleep, woke up to the alarming alarm of the smoke detector in his kitchen.

"Oh God, did I leave something on the stove?" He asked and immediately got up, but felt the cramps on his legs as he had stayed in one position for too long as he slept. "Crap! Cramps!" He sat on the bed for a while and then he noticed the bed was empty.

He looked towards the place where he had dropped the wolf man's clothes and found that they were also missing.

"Is he awake?" He asked but then frowned. "Wait, don't tell me." He finally made his way to the kitchen and was shocked to find it covered in thick black smoke. "Fuck! What is this?!"

He yelled and immediately picked up one of the rags to cover up his nose.

"Wolfman?!" He yelled through the cloth. "Are you in there? Please tell me you're not roasting your tail!"

From the thick black smoke emerged the wolf man's tall and broad figure.

He stood in front of Micheal who used all his might to hold his laughter and not mock his current appearance.

But that wasn't the main issue there. He walked past him with the cloth pressed on his nose, but it didn't keep out the smoke completely and he coughed.

He started fanning the smoke towards the vent. To think the wolf man would help him paint his kitchen black during the short period he took his eyes off him.

This was a disaster.

"Just what did you hope to accomplish?" Micheal asked him once he had gotten rid of all the smoke. "You made such a mess. I'll be getting an earful from the owner soon and the neighbors too." He pressed his hand to his face in exhaustion. He was angry that this was happening the first day he agreed to let him live in his house. "Just... Did you plan to burn us both alive?"

"No, in actuality..." The wolfman walked towards the stove and then picked up the pan. "I was trying to prepare dinner. But..." He shook his head. "I believe I am not fit for kitchen duty!"

"Yeah, I believe so too." Micheal said and looked at the pan. "What's that supposed to be?" He asked, staring at the black stuff stuck to the pan and the wolf man shocked him by saying,

"Fried eggs."

"Fried... Eggs? You're kidding." Micheal looked up at his face but the seriousness that stuck to his expression said he wasn't joking.

He looked at the black stuff again and even pocked it with a fork. It was as hard as a rock.

"This... Is fried egg?" He asked but the wolf man knew he had made a mistake.

"There might've been a slight miscalculation on my part?"

"Slight miscalculation?" Micheal asked with his brows raised. "Pal, you almost burnt down my house. This was a 'major' miscalculation."

"Ah..." The wolfman looked at the pan. "I see."

Micheal sighed while shaking his head.

This wouldn't do. From the looks of it, this wolfman had no knowledge of the kitchen. It would be a death sentence to let him cook.

"You know what? Just... Never think about cooking. I'll do it. I'm great at it and if I need your assistance, I'll let you know. Just... Never step foot in my kitchen... Ever!"
