Chapter 24 - Senior year

"Thanks for coming over," Alyssa said, smiling at Alex. "It was great catching up with you."

Alex smiled back, his eyes sparkling with warmth. "Definitely. We should do it again soon."

Alyssa nodded, feeling a sense of excitement at the prospect of seeing Alex again. As they said their goodbyes, Alyssa's mother turned to her and smiled.

"I think Alex has grown into a fine young man, don't you?" she said, winking at Alyssa.

Alyssa blushed, feeling a flutter in her chest. She couldn't deny the way she felt, but she wasn't sure if she was ready to admit it to herself, let alone her mother.

As they watched Alex and his mother drive away, Alyssa turned to her mother with a question. "Mom, what brought them here today?"

Her mother hesitated for a moment before answering. "Aunty Maria and I were talking about having Alex stay with us for a while. He's going to be attending school here for his senior year."

Alyssa's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"

Her mother nodded. "Yes, really. And I think it's going to be a great opportunity for you two to reconnect and catch up on old times."

Alyssa couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of having Alex around. She had a feeling that this was going to be an interesting senior year.

Alyssa woke up early, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness as she got ready for the first day of school. Her mom had offered to drive her and Alex to school since he was staying with them.

As she came downstairs, she saw Alex already sitting in the kitchen, eating breakfast. He looked up and smiled, and Alyssa felt a sense of familiarity wash over her.

"Morning," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

Alyssa smiled back, feeling a sense of comfort around him. "Morning," she replied.

Her mom came into the kitchen, keys in hand. "Ready to go?" she asked.

Alyssa nodded, grabbing her backpack. Alex stood up, shouldering his own bag.

As they drove to school, Alyssa's mind began to wander. She couldn't help but think about JoeGad and wonder what his relationship with Sofia had progressed to. She discreetly scanned the school parking lot, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

When they arrived at school, Alyssa's mom wished them both a good day and drove off. Alyssa turned to Alex and said, "I'll show you around the school."

As they walked through the halls, Alyssa's eyes darted around, searching for JoeGad. She pointed out different landmarks and classrooms to Alex, but her mind was elsewhere.

Alex seemed to notice her distraction, but he didn't say anything. He listened intently to her explanations, asking questions and making jokes.

Alyssa felt like she was just going through the motions, her heart not really in it. She was too busy wondering what JoeGad was up to, and whether he was still with Sofia.

As they parted ways to go to their respective classes, Alyssa's eyes scanned the hallway one last time, hoping to catch a glimpse of JoeGad. But he was nowhere to be seen.

Alyssa sighed, feeling a sense of disappointment. She would have to wait until later to find out what was going on with JoeGad.

As Alyssa walked to her first class, she couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment. She had been hoping to see JoeGad, but he was nowhere to be found.

She took her seat in class, trying to focus on the lesson. But her mind kept wandering back to JoeGad and Sofia. She wondered if they were still together, and if JoeGad was happy.

As the class ended, Alyssa gathered her things and headed to her next class. She spotted Sofia walking down the hallway, laughing with her friends.

Alyssa's heart skipped a beat as she saw Sofia, and she felt a pang of curiosity. She wondered if Sofia knew how much JoeGad meant to her.

Alyssa tried to push the thought aside, telling herself that she needed to focus on her own life. But she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as she watched Sofia walk away.

As the day went on, Alyssa found herself glancing around the hallways, hoping to catch a glimpse of JoeGad. But he was nowhere to be seen.

Just as she was starting to lose hope, Alyssa heard a familiar voice behind her.

"Hey, Alyssa."

She turned around, her heart racing with excitement. It was JoeGad.

"Hey," she replied, trying to sound casual.

JoeGad smiled, and Alyssa's heart skipped a beat. She felt like she was melting into his eyes.

"How's it going?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.

Alyssa shrugged, trying to play it cool. "It's going," she replied.

JoeGad nodded, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm glad I ran into you," he said. "I've been meaning to talk to you."

Alyssa's heart was racing with excitement. What did JoeGad want to talk to her about?

Alyssa's mind was racing with possibilities as JoeGad smiled at her. She tried to play it cool, but her heart was skipping a beat.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

JoeGad leaned against the locker, his eyes locked on hers. "I was thinking about the party last year," he said, his voice low and smooth.

Alyssa's heart skipped a beat as she remembered the party. She had been hoping that JoeGad would bring it up.

"What about it?" she asked, trying to sound casual.

JoeGad shrugged. "I don't know, I just felt like we didn't really get to talk much," he said. "And I was wondering if you wanted to grab coffee or something sometime."

Alyssa's heart was racing with excitement. Was JoeGad asking her out?

"I'd like that," she said, trying to sound calm.

JoeGad smiled, and Alyssa's heart skipped a beat. "Great," he said. "I'll text you later and we can set something up."

As JoeGad walked away, Alyssa couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. What was happening? Was she really going to go out with JoeGad?

She couldn't wait to find out.
