Chapter 10 - Vacaaayyyy

The next morning, Alyssa and her mother set off on their vacation, bound for a beautiful beach resort in a tropical paradise. As they settled into their flight, Alyssa couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She was excited for the adventure ahead, but she was also going to miss JoeGad terribly.

As the plane took off, Alyssa gazed out the window, watching as the city gave way to countryside and eventually, the ocean. She felt a sense of liberation wash over her, as if she was leaving her worries behind.

But as the flight attendants came by to offer snacks and drinks, Alyssa's mind began to wander back to JoeGad. She wondered what he was doing right now, and whether he was missing her as much as she was missing him.

Alyssa's mother, sensing her daughter's distraction, reached out and put a hand on her arm. "Hey, kiddo, everything okay?" she asked, her voice soft with concern.

Alyssa nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. "Yeah, Mom, everything's fine. I just...I miss JoeGad, that's all."

Her mother's expression softened, and she pulled Alyssa into a hug. "I know, sweetie. It's okay to miss him. But we're going to have an amazing time on this vacation, just the two of us. And when we get back, we'll figure out a way to make things work with JoeGad, okay?"

Alyssa nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her mother. She knew that her mother was trying to understand, even if she didn't fully agree with Alyssa's feelings.

As the plane continued on its journey, Alyssa settled back into her seat, feeling a sense of hope that she hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe, just maybe, things would work out with JoeGad after all.

As Alyssa and her mother stepped off the plane, they were greeted by the warm sunshine and the sound of seagulls overhead. Alyssa's mother scanned the crowd, looking for their ride, and soon spotted a familiar face waving at them.

"Alyssa, look! There's Dr. Maria and her son, Alex," her mother exclaimed, waving back at them.

Alyssa's eyes landed on Dr. Maria, a woman with a kind smile and a warm, honey-colored complexion. She was dressed in a bright floral sundress, and her hair was pulled back in a loose bun.

Standing beside Dr. Maria was a boy about Alyssa's age, with messy brown hair and a shy grin. Alyssa felt a flutter of curiosity as she watched him wave at her.

As they made their way over to Dr. Maria and Alex, Alyssa's mother explained that Dr. Maria was an old friend from university, and that they had kept in touch over the years.

Dr. Maria enveloped Alyssa's mother in a warm hug, and then turned to Alyssa with a smile. "And this must be Alyssa! It's so wonderful to finally meet you, dear."

Alyssa smiled back at her, feeling a little shy but also happy to meet Dr. Maria and her son. As they exchanged greetings, Alyssa couldn't help but notice the way Alex was looking at her, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

She felt a flutter in her chest, and suddenly, she wasn't thinking about JoeGad anymore. Who was this Alex, and why was he making her feel so nervous and excited all at once?

As the adults chatted and caught up, Alyssa and Alex stood awkwardly beside each other, unsure of what to say. Alyssa fidgeted with her backpack straps, while Alex shoved his hands deep into his pockets.

Dr. Maria, noticing their awkwardness, smiled and intervened. "Hey, kids! Why don't you go grab some drinks from the café over there while we finish up here?"

Alyssa and Alex nodded in unison, grateful for the excuse to escape the adult conversation. As they walked towards the café, Alyssa couldn't help but sneak glances at Alex. He seemed nice, and she was curious to get to know him better.

When they reached the café, Alex turned to her and asked, "So, what do you want to drink?"

Alyssa hesitated for a moment before responding, "Uh, I'll just have a soda, please."

Alex nodded and ordered for them both. As they waited for their drinks, Alyssa tried to think of something to say. She didn't want to just stand there in silence.

"So, Alex," she began, "what do you like to do for fun?"

Alex's face lit up with a smile. "I love playing soccer and video games. How about you?"

Alyssa's eyes widened with excitement. "I love playing video games too! What's your favorite game?"

As they continued to chat, Alyssa found herself feeling more and more at ease around Alex. They discovered they had a lot in common, from their love of video games to their passion for music.

By the time they returned to the adults with their drinks, Alyssa was grinning from ear to ear. She felt like she had found a new friend in Alex, and she was excited to spend more time with him during their vacation.

As they walked towards the airport exit, Dr. Maria smiled at Alyssa's mother and said, "I'm so glad the kids are hitting it off. I think this is going to be a fantastic vacation for all of us!"

As they walked towards the airport exit, Alyssa's mother, Carolyn Windsor, smiled warmly at Dr. Maria, reminiscing about their university days.

"Maria, it's so wonderful to see you again," Carolyn said, her eyes sparkling with nostalgia. "I'm so glad we've stayed in touch all these years."

Dr. Maria nodded in agreement, her expression equally warm. "I know, Carolyn. You were always an inspiration to me, even back in university. Your business acumen was unparalleled, and I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by your intelligence."

Carolyn chuckled, waving her hand dismissively. "Oh, Maria, you're being too kind. But I do have to say, I've always admired your dedication to the medical field. You were always so passionate about helping others."

As they continued to chat, Alyssa listened with interest, learning more about her mother's university days and her friendship with Dr. Maria.

She was struck by the realization that her mother was not just a parent, but a highly intelligent and accomplished individual who had earned the respect of her peers.

As they stepped out of the airport, the warm sunshine and tropical breeze enveloped them, filling Alyssa with a sense of excitement and anticipation.

She knew that this vacation was going to be an adventure, not just because of the beautiful surroundings, but also because of the opportunity to learn more about her mother and form new connections with people like Dr. Maria and her son, Alex.
