Chapter 8 - 10th birthday

As the days went by, the excitement and nervousness in the air grew thicker. The high school entrance exams were just around the corner, and every parent was eager for their child to secure a spot at the prestigious high school in the city.

Alyssa's mother was no exception. She had always dreamed of her daughter attending the best high school in the city, and she was willing to do whatever it took to make that happen.

"Alyssa, you need to start studying seriously for the entrance exams," her mother said, as they sat down for dinner. "The competition is going to be fierce, and I want you to be prepared."

Alyssa nodded, feeling a bit overwhelmed. She knew that the entrance exams were going to be tough, but she was determined to do her best.

JoeGad, on the other hand, was feeling the pressure from his parents as well. They had always expected him to excel academically, and the high school entrance exams were no exception.

As the exam dates approached, Alyssa and JoeGad found themselves studying together more frequently. They would meet up at the library or at each other's houses, pouring over textbooks and practice exams.

Tiffany, who had been watching from the sidelines, couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. She had been trying to get JoeGad's attention for months, but it seemed like he was still focused on Alyssa.

As the exam dates drew closer, the tension between the three friends grew thicker. Who would emerge victorious and secure a spot at the prestigious high school? Only time would tell.

The day of the entrance exams finally arrived, and Alyssa, JoeGad, and Tiffany all gathered at the exam hall, looking nervous but determined.

Alyssa's mother had been drilling her with practice exams and study tips for weeks, and Alyssa felt like she was as prepared as she could be.

JoeGad, on the other hand, looked like he was feeling the pressure. His parents had been riding him hard to get into the prestigious high school, and he knew that his future depended on it.

Tiffany, who had been studying hard but not quite as intensively as Alyssa and JoeGad, looked confident but a bit anxious.

As the exams began, the three friends sat down at their respective desks, took a deep breath, and started answering questions.

The exams were grueling, with difficult questions and strict time limits. But Alyssa, JoeGad, and Tiffany all persevered, using all their knowledge and skills to answer the questions to the best of their ability.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the exams came to an end. The three friends breathed a sigh of relief as they walked out of the exam hall, exhausted but proud of themselves for making it through.

Now all they had to do was wait for the results. Who would get into the prestigious high school, and who would be left behind? The suspense was killing them.

The day of JoeGad's 10th birthday party arrived, and the Parker conglomerate spared no expense in throwing an extravagant celebration. The party was held at a luxurious mansion, with a huge backyard that was transformed into a mini-amusement park.

Alyssa had been begging her mother to attend the party, and eventually, her mother relented. Alyssa was thrilled and spent hours getting ready, trying on different outfits and doing her hair.

When they arrived at the party, Alyssa's eyes widened in amazement. There were roller coasters, bumper cars, and even a giant inflatable slide. JoeGad was beaming with excitement, and Alyssa couldn't help but feel happy for him.

Tiffany was also at the party, looking stunning in a pink dress. She made a beeline for JoeGad, giving him a big hug and a birthday gift.

Alyssa felt a pang of jealousy, but she pushed it aside and joined in the celebration. She and JoeGad spent the day riding roller coasters, playing games, and eating cake.

As the party came to an end, JoeGad's parents gathered everyone around to sing "Happy Birthday." Alyssa sang along, feeling grateful to have been a part of JoeGad's special day.

As they left the party, Alyssa's mother asked her if she had had fun. Alyssa nodded enthusiastically, still buzzing from the excitement of the party.

But as they walked to the car, Alyssa's mother dropped a bombshell. "Alyssa, I've been thinking... maybe it's not such a good idea for you to hang out with JoeGad so much."

Alyssa's heart sank. What did her mother mean? Was she going to forbid her from seeing JoeGad again?

Alyssa's eyes widened in alarm as she turned to her mother. "What do you mean, Mom?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Her mother sighed and looked around cautiously, making sure no one was listening. "Alyssa, I know you really like JoeGad, but I'm worried that you're getting too close to him. He's from a very wealthy family, and I don't want you to get hurt."

Alyssa felt a surge of frustration. Why did her mother always have to be so overprotective? "Mom, JoeGad is my friend," she said. "I like spending time with him. And besides, his family's wealth doesn't matter to me."

Her mother raised an eyebrow. "Really, Alyssa? Then why did you seem so jealous when Tiffany gave JoeGad a birthday gift?"

Alyssa's face grew hot with embarrassment. She hadn't realized her mother had noticed her reaction. "I...I don't know, Mom," she stammered.

Her mother sighed and put a hand on Alyssa's shoulder. "Alyssa, I just want what's best for you. And I'm not sure that JoeGad is it."

Alyssa felt a lump form in her throat. She knew her mother was just trying to protect her, but it felt like she was being pulled away from JoeGad. And she didn't know how to stop it.

She couldn't argue with her mother, she could only suck it in. Not wanting to be disrespectful to her mother. She had grown up mingling with the upper class. It was all ad a result of her mothers hardworking.
