Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Wheel of Flesh (2)

"Growing impatient, are we?"

Blaze smiles deviously.

The Quarterback isn't that stupid. Actually, none of the Crises are.

The Jade Snake tried to run away when it was losing. And now the Quarterback wants to end the fight before Blaze disrupts the field even more.

Unfortunately for it, that is exactly what Blaze wants.

"Sunrise!"

Blaze screams, and a sphere of light envelops

him.

"What is that?!" Preston says.

All the Liberty Sons also get closer to observe.

That armor again! The Pale Harpy is once more starstruck.

The ball of light collides with the wheel of flesh.

The Quarterback is continuously grinding upon the energy sphere, but to no avail. Its flesh cannot penetrate the light.

Instead, part of its skin is being peeled off.

The Crisis has skin as tough as rock. Being slammed by it will be no different than facing a truck head-on.

But its rock-hard flesh now proves useless.

And then, an arm reaches out of the ball of light.

[Sunrise Remaining Time: 99.99 seconds]

The arm is covered in golden armor, shining and gleaming like the sun. It clenches its finger into a fist and punches straight into the meat wheel.

The light dissipates, and standing there is a golden-armored warrior with a falcon helmet and a sword made of sunlight in his hand.

The punch was so strong that it broke the Quarterback's formation, sending it flying and sliding in the dirt.

The Crisis roars like a beast. It is obviously in great pain. The fist engraves a shape onto its huge arm.

Blaze darts forward, intending to end the fight without giving it any second to breathe.

The Quarterback tries to return to the wheel formation again. Blaze will not be able to get close in time to stop it with the sword.

So he uses the Force Shocker.

Blaze opens his left palm and thrusts it forward. A bright blue wave with the shape of his hand shoots toward the Quarterback.

He did not spread it to the cone shape, so its range is much farther, enough to reach the Crisis.

The translucent hand hits the Crisis right in its forehead. Its tongue sticks out, and its entire body vibrates slightly.

Force Shocker has stunned it and made it freeze temporarily. Buying Blaze just enough time to close the distance.

Only three seconds pass, and its eyes suddenly retrieve their focus again. The Quarterback snaps back to reality, but meeting it is only another Force Shocker to the face.

[Sunrise Remaining Time: 69.99 seconds]

Blaze smiles under the falcon helmet.

"This one will be easy."

The second time, the Quarterback is only stunned for two seconds. But meeting it is another Force Shocker.

The stun only extends for one second this time, but it is enough for Blaze to get in range for an attack. While wearing the Solar Armor, his attributes are greatly enhanced. This includes his agility, making him much faster than normal.

The first image the Crisis sees when it regains consciousness is a bright, burning blade of sunlight thrusting directly at its face.

The Sun Bird strikes forward in a straight horizontal line, piercing right through the Quarterback's face.

The blade goes deep inside its brain, almost to the crossguard.

The others jump down from their hiding spot and approach Blaze.

Batrick whistles and claps.

"Fweet! What a show, kid!"

Blaze pulls his sword and immediately jumps back, extending the distance between him and the Quarterback.

"Hey, now! Don't be so scared! We have no bad intentions."

Batrick says. He is the closest to the Quarterback, walking past him while he's speaking.

"Get away! It isn't dead yet!"

Just as Blaze finishes his words, the Quarterback reaches its giant hand out and grabs Batrick. His entire upper body is easily grabbed by its palm, with only his head sticking out.

"Damn it!" Batrick curses.

No notification from the System means no death. Blaze knew this, so he tried to get as far as he could, anticipating whatever attack it may have.

"Help him!"

Preston shouts and kneels down on one knee. He pulls out the rifle from behind his back.

The rifle is as black as coal and has a long scope on it. Pure red energy pours out of Preston's hand and goes inside the gun, charging its power.

The barrel shines a crimson color.

"You idiot!"

Dastan stomps on the ground, black energy covers his entire body, propelling him to bolt forward at an extreme speed, leaving only a blur behind.

The Quarterback slaps its other hand in Dastan's direction. He ducks down, slides beneath it, and then jumps toward Batrick.

With a curved sword in his hand, Dastan strikes the gigantic arm that is holding Batrick.

Sparks erupt from the point of contact and spur chaotically. The sword is unable to leave even a mark on the Quarterback's skin.

"What the hell?!"

Dastan darts away, leaving a blur behind his back.

"Its skin can withstand steel!"

They thought the Quarterback wasn't that strong, as they saw Blaze's blade easily penetrate its skin.

But no, the truth is much more terrifying.

Vzzzt!

A weird buzzing noise rings out. A straight red laser bolts forward and hits the Quarterback's arm.

It is unable to break through its flesh, but the red energy sticks on the skin and spreads out, eroding the outer layer of its flesh.

The hold gets loose. Yellow energy bursts out of Batrick's skin, and a sphere of forcefield materializes, pushing the Quarterback's palm away and releasing Batrick.

He drops on the ground and immediately rolls away. His chest hurts like hell, a few bones breaking and dangling.

"Goddamnit! This cunt is strong!"

Batrick curses and regroups with the Liberty Sons.

Leon, the last one of the Liberty Sons, finally speaks: "Do not get in the crossfire."

He aims his two index fingers toward the Quarterback, from the tips of the fingers shoots out a barrage of white energy, smashing onto the monster's skin.

It's effective to a degree, the energy bullet leaves scorch marks on its skin, but the monster doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

"Tch!" Leon clicks his tongue.

The Quarterback drops his hand on the ground, growling like a beast in heat. Its hand grows larger and more red at each second.

"Stop it!"

Preston shouts.

The Pale Harpy finally enters battle. She flies on top of the monster and shoots down energy feathers.

The feather sticks on to its skin but doesn't seem to stop whatever it is doing.

Leon also attacks aggressively. Preston charges his rifle again.

Then, Henry blinks and appears in front of the monster.

He does another traditional, normal punch like before. The ground around him cracks, and the wind screams in high frequency.

Whatever this punch is, it definitely will be able to kill it.

This is what everyone thinks, including Blaze.

He is right beside Henry at this point.

"Would you mind stepping aside, Henry?"

The student council president looks over to Blaze. He remembers him vividly.

There was an issue relating to Blaze and two other students. A male and a female.

The female accused him of sexual harassment, while the male stated to have saved her. It is obvious that Blaze was framed.

Unfortunately, he was a trashy back then, and the school didn't even want to hear what he had to say.

So Blaze was dispelled.

Henry can't even remember the names of the other two. They were nobody and had nothing special about them.

But Henry remembers Blaze. His eyes are filled with the fiery rage of vengeance.

"Never underestimate the power of anyone, including the trash."

That is what Henry's grandfather always told him.

Henry also has a hunch that Blaze will surprise him one day. He didn't think that it would be so soon.

Henry recalls his power, the invisible aura around him dissipates.

"We do no snatching here. You were handling it quite well yourself.

It is our fault to interrupt.

Please do not mind us and continue."

Henry blinks away, leaving Blaze with the Quarterback.

The Liberty Sons also retreat. The only one who is still nearby is the Pale Harpy in the sky. But Blaze doesn't mind her.
