Chapter 17 - chapter 17 :A Good Kid Was Ruined by Garp

"Throw yourself off a cliff?"

Little Luffy was stunned.

What kind of training method is this?

Maybe it's not a real cliff but just a deep pit?

With that thought, Luffy cautiously walked to the edge. He peered down and instantly felt his legs tremble. His face turned pale, and he quickly stepped back.

It's so high.

He couldn't even see the bottom.

This is a real cliff!!!

Luffy gulped. But then he reassured himself—his grandpa was just joking, right? There was no way his own grandfather would throw him off a cliff. That would be ridiculous!

"Grandpa, you're joking, right?" Luffy asked hesitantly. "What exactly are we training for today?"

He waited a few seconds.

Silence.

Luffy frowned and turned around in confusion—only to witness the most terrifying sight of his life.

Garp stood there, grinning widely. He cracked his knuckles, his large hands coming together with an ominous sound.

Then—

Before Luffy could react—

BAM!

A powerful kick landed right on his backside.

Whoosh—

Luffy's eyes widened in shock as he was launched into the air like a ragdoll. His body arced through the sky, forming a perfect parabola before plummeting toward the abyss.

"Eh—?"

His brain barely registered what was happening before gravity took full control.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHH—!!!"

Luffy's screams echoed across the canyon, growing fainter as he fell deeper and deeper.

Above, Garp stood proudly at the edge of the cliff, hands on his hips, beaming with satisfaction.

"This is the best way to train an elite Marine!" he declared, laughing heartily.

The Reactions Across Two Worlds

This shocking scene left everyone in both worlds completely dumbfounded.

"What kind of psycho is this?! How is anyone supposed to survive that?!"

"That's not training! That's attempted murder!"

"(Present) Sengoku: GARP!!! That's your grandson! What are you doing?! Are you insane?!"*

"(Original) Sengoku: For once, I actually agree with my counterpart. Garp, have you lost your mind?! What if he dies from the fall?!"*

For the first time, the two Sengokus shared the same opinion—they were equally furious.

Meanwhile, the original Garp laughed proudly.

"(Original) Garp: Hahaha! How could an elite Marine die so easily? He ate the Rubber-Rubber Fruit! I'm just helping him master his Devil Fruit powers."*

Sengoku's forehead veins bulged in frustration.

"(Original) Sengoku: You idiot! He's still a kid! He hasn't even received any proper training yet! Besides, did you even check what's at the bottom of the cliff? What if there's water down there? Luffy can't swim, you know!"*

A moment of silence.

"(Original) Garp: Eh? Why didn't I think of that?"*

Pfft—

Everyone nearly collapsed.

"Wait, wait, wait—are you telling me that you didn't even check what was down there?!"

"So he just threw his grandson off a cliff without any idea if he'd survive?!"

If Sengoku hadn't pointed it out, would Garp have never even considered it?!

At this moment, countless people across both worlds began to feel genuine sympathy for Luffy.

"(Present) Sengoku: Now I understand why Luffy became a pirate in the other world. He was literally running away from his grandfather."*

"(Original) Sengoku: For once, I completely agree."*

Dragon's Childhood Trauma

Meanwhile, on White Island, Dragon—the feared revolutionary leader—sat in stunned silence.

His expression darkened.

Unpleasant childhood memories resurfaced.

Yes.

That's exactly how Garp had trained him as a child.

A chill ran down his spine.

The corners of his mouth twitched involuntarily.

"(Original) Dragon: GARP!!!"*

His subordinates took a step back as they felt a powerful aura radiating from their leader.

"Sabo: Chief, calm down! Stop breaking things!"*

---

Even the Marines Are Shocked

"(Present) Kizaru: How scary~ I can't believe you treat your own grandson like this. By the way... Garp, is Luffy really your biological grandson? Who would do this to their own grandkid?"*

"(Present) Garp: Of course he is! But I would never treat my grandson like that. That Garp over there has no clue how to raise a kid properly."*

"(Original) Garp: What did you say?! The Luffy I'm raising will definitely be stronger than the one you raised!"*

The argument between the two Garps was like a petty squabble between children.

"(Present) Akainu: Speaking of resemblance, why does Dragon look so different from you two? Could it be... that Dragon isn't actually Garp's biological son?"*

"(Present) Kizaru: That actually makes a lot of sense..."

"(Present) Aokiji: Hmm… could it be—?"*

"(Present) Dragon: AHEM. Enough of your wild theories! Of course, he's my father!"*

Garp threw an arm around Dragon's shoulder.

"(Present) Garp: That's right!"*

"(Original) Dragon: Ugh. Can you two stop acting so close? It's making me uncomfortable."*

---

The Two Luffys Argue

"(Present) Hina: Luffy, I never expected you to have such a miserable childhood. Your grandfather's training methods are truly unique."*

"(Original) Luffy: Even now, I still get scared thinking about it."*

"(Present) Luffy: Hmph! His training was useless. The one who really taught me was Commissar Ron!"*

"(Original) Luffy: That's not true! My grandpa's training made me strong! Without it, I wouldn't have the endurance I have now!"*

Garp beamed with pride.

"(Original) Garp: Hahahaha! That's my grandson!"*

Meanwhile, the present Luffy scoffed.

"(Present) Luffy: You think you're strong? Look at yourself! You're too weak!"*

Even through the screen, present Luffy could sense how weak his counterpart was.

"(Original) Luffy: I'm not weak! My bounty is 300 million Berries!"*

"(Present) Luffy: 300 million? That's cute. I was already catching pirates with bounties of 300 million when I was 12 years old."*

"(Original) Luffy: That's just my bounty! My real strength is far above an average 300-million-Berries pirate! I've already mastered Gear Third! How many gears do you have?!"*

Original Luffy's competitive spirit flared up.

He refused to accept that his counterpart was stronger.

The battle of pride between the two Luffys had officially begun.

Final Thoughts

As the worlds continued watching, one undeniable fact became clear:

Luffy had survived one of the craziest childhoods imaginable.

And Garp?

A complete madman.

But perhaps…

That insanity was what shaped Luffy into the person he was today.
