Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Establishing Authority

Su Xiuyu chose not to explain to Lei Jiangang that his abilities weren't a superpower but ninjutsu. Keeping one's abilities secret was the best course of action. Besides, who would believe him if he told them it was ninjutsu? Unless someone was unlucky enough to travel through a spacetime wormhole, end up in the Naruto world, and return safely one day, only then would they understand.

"You should now have a general understanding of the current world situation. Keep this information confidential and don't disclose it too early," Lei Jiangang instructed. "The entire country, including Yangcheng, is already making preparations. The news will be released in an orderly manner when the time is right. You'll be the captain of Yangcheng's Special Mobile Team. You're all young people—you should get along well."

He waved his hand, officially handing over the team to Su Xiuyu.

"What if there's a troublemaker?" Su Xiuyu asked, wanting to confirm the extent of his authority.

"A troublemaker?" Lei Jiangang chuckled. "If someone doesn't want to make your life easy, then make his life difficult! As long as they don't end up seriously injured or dead, you can do whatever you want to keep them in line. The Special Mobile Team is a semi-militarized unit under the Yangcheng Special Service Bureau. As captain, you're in charge. Handle things however you see fit."

Su Xiuyu nodded. "Got it. My team has already assembled?"

"Yes, you can go check on them now. You have a mission tomorrow."

Without hesitation, Su Xiuyu headed straight to the meeting point. Sure enough, twelve people were already there. Among them, only three or four were sitting properly, while the rest were laughing and joking around. It was clear they needed some "training."

"I'm Su Xiuyu, your new captain. Gather up and report!"

Hearing his command, the team immediately fell into formation and did a headcount. Their discipline was decent—at least they had military training. Lei Gang, clearly excited to see Su Xiuyu again, stood at attention.

However, some team members seemed unconvinced. Most were older than Su Xiuyu, and now, they were expected to follow a young captain.

"Report, Captain! I don't accept this!" A crew-cut man suddenly stepped forward, his voice firm. "I believe I'm stronger than you."

Su Xiuyu smiled at the challenger. Not bad. Even though he was questioning authority, he still followed proper procedure.

"What's your name?"

"Report! My name is Li Yunrui. My ability is enhanced physical strength, and I want to challenge you!"

Su Xiuyu smirked. "You're straightforward, and you even reminded me of your ability. Alright, challenge accepted. Let's go."

Li Yunrui's eyes gleamed. This was his chance. If he could take down this kid, there was no way he'd stay captain.

"Alright, here I come!" He charged forward and threw a straight punch, but Su Xiuyu casually tilted his head, dodging it with ease.

Li Yunrui wasn't discouraged. He unleashed a flurry of attacks—uppercuts, straight punches, and side kicks. But no matter how fast or strong his strikes were, Su Xiuyu effortlessly dodged every single one, moving with an almost lazy precision.

Realizing that Su Xiuyu was on a completely different level, Li Yunrui gritted his teeth. "Captain, are you only going to dodge? Fight back!"

Su Xiuyu chuckled. "Alright."

In the blink of an eye, he delivered a lightning-fast side kick. The impact sent Li Yunrui flying over ten meters before crashing to the ground.

"Argh!" Li Yunrui groaned in pain.

"You good?" Su Xiuyu asked, estimating the damage. If that kick had landed on a normal person, their sternum would've shattered, puncturing their lungs. But Li Yunrui's enhanced body meant that, at worst, he had a fractured rib—nothing serious.

"I'm fine, Captain," Li Yunrui grunted, trying to maintain his pride. The pain was unbearable, but he wasn't about to admit defeat so easily. He decided to stay down for a moment to save himself from further embarrassment.

Su Xiuyu glanced at the rest of the team. "Who else wants to challenge me? This is your chance. If you don't take it now, you won't get another one."

Another man stepped forward. "I'll challenge you!"

Su Xiuyu turned to face him.

"My name is Zhang Cheng. I have the ability of Eagle Eyes. I specialize in firearms and archery."

Zhang Cheng's ability gave him enhanced vision, making him a deadly long-range fighter.

"Alright," Su Xiuyu said. "How do you want to compete? Gun skills or archery? I don't use guns or bows, so do you want a target shooting contest or a combat test?"

Zhang Cheng hesitated. "Captain, if you don't use firearms, how can we even compete?"

Everyone in the squad—except for Lei Gang—was proficient in firearms. Zhang Cheng was one of the best marksmen in the team. But Su Xiuyu had just admitted he didn't use guns. How was this supposed to work?

Without answering, Su Xiuyu pulled out a handful of shuriken and kunai. "It's fine. I'll use these. Let's get started. Everyone else, spread out—I don't want anyone getting hit by stray bullets."

Zhang Cheng stared, dumbfounded. "Captain, are you serious? This isn't a joke—people can die. My shooting skills aren't just for show."

Su Xiuyu waved dismissively. "Relax. You won't hit me. Just shoot."

Zhang Cheng had no choice but to go along with it. He took a deep breath, aimed his gun at Su Xiuyu's left upper arm—choosing a non-lethal shot—and pulled the trigger.

A gunshot rang out.

----

With a loud bang, a bullet shot toward Su Xiuyu. Without hesitation, he raised his kunai, deflecting the bullet with a flick of his wrist. Sparks flew in all directions.

Zhang Cheng had initially been worried about injuring his captain, but after witnessing Su Xiuyu effortlessly slice through bullets, he finally understood—he and Captain Su were on completely different levels. Determined to test his limits, Zhang Cheng fired several more shots, only for Su Xiuyu to cut through each bullet with the same ease. At this point, Zhang Cheng knew there was no point in continuing. A man capable of cutting bullets mid-air wouldn't even need to prove himself in archery.

"Captain, I admit defeat. There's no need to continue the match—I'm convinced," Zhang Cheng said, raising his hand in surrender. He had no problem acknowledging Su Xiuyu's leadership. Meanwhile, Li Yunrui was still lying on the ground, groaning in pain, stuck in an awkward situation where he wanted to get up but physically couldn't.

"Alright, since no one else has any objections, from this moment forward, my orders are absolute. I've given you all a chance to challenge me today, but if anyone dares to disobey orders in the future, don't blame me for being harsh." Su Xiuyu's voice was calm but firm. He made his stance clear to prevent future trouble during missions.

"Understood! We will follow orders without question!" The entire team shouted in unison.

"My name is Su Xiuyu. From now on, you can call me Captain Su or simply Captain." He glanced at Zhang Cheng and Li Yunrui, who were still recovering. "I have some experience in hand-to-hand combat and shooting."

Zhang Cheng and Li Yunrui exchanged looks. "Some experience"? If slicing bullets mid-air was "some experience," then what the hell was mastery? They couldn't help but feel their captain was just flexing on them.

"Tomorrow, we have a mission," Su Xiuyu continued. "There's a forest farm in the eastern suburbs of Yangcheng, previously used for afforestation. Recently, over a dozen mutant deer have appeared in the area. Our task is to either capture or eliminate them. If possible, we should drive them away. The mission is straightforward. Go back, prepare your equipment, and be ready by 8 AM tomorrow. Dismissed."

As the team dispersed, Su Xiuyu called out, "Lei Gang, stay behind."

Once they were alone, Su Xiuyu turned to him. "Your combat ability has potential, but you need proper guidance. I'll help you refine your techniques."

Lei Gang's eyes lit up. "Thank you, Captain!" As a martial arts fanatic, this was the best possible outcome for him.

"Alright, let's begin," Su Xiuyu said.

Lei Gang didn't hesitate. "I won't hold back," he warned before launching his attack.

Su Xiuyu didn't even need to dodge. Lei Gang's punches and kicks barely grazed his clothes. But Su Xiuyu was still satisfied—Lei Gang's raw strength and endurance were impressive, far exceeding Li Yunrui's, but his combat experience and technique were still lacking.

After a brief exchange, Su Xiuyu stopped him. "Your physical abilities and potential are solid, but you lack experience. For the next few nights, come train with me. I'll help you refine your techniques and give you a proper combat foundation."

Lei Gang nodded enthusiastically. "Understood, Captain!"

Su Xiuyu smirked. "When it's just the two of us, you don't need to be so formal. We're classmates, after all. Just call me Su Xiuyu in private."

Lei Gang hesitated for a second before smiling. "Alright, Su Xiuyu."

---

The next morning, the special operations team assembled.

Unlike Su Xiuyu, who carried only his kunai and shuriken, the rest of the team had stocked up on weapons—guns, ammunition, and explosives. Even though many of them had awakened abilities, their primary strategy was still firepower suppression. Lei Gang, in particular, carried a reinforced explosion-proof shield, reinforcing his role as the team's frontline tank. His towering frame and defensive gear allowed him to take hits while the backline dealt damage.

Su Xiuyu gave a brief nod. "Let's move."

They departed for the eastern forest, reaching their destination in no time.

"Final preparations," Su Xiuyu ordered. "Once we enter the forest, stay alert. If you encounter a life-threatening situation, call for backup immediately."

With that, the team moved into formation and advanced into the woods.

---

Half an hour later, Su Xiuyu spotted their target.

A massive stag stood amidst the trees, its antlers nearly the size of a family car. Standing at over three meters tall, the mutant deer was far larger than any normal deer.

"Target sighted," Su Xiuyu announced through the radio.

In a blur of motion, he appeared above the creature, delivering a powerful kick that sent it crashing to the ground. The surrounding mutant deer, seemingly believing their leader had been taken down, let out enraged cries and charged at the team.

Zhang Cheng, the team's best shooter, fired first. His bullets found their marks, but the mutant deer were far more agile than ordinary sika deer. Even when hit, they barely slowed down, proving their enhanced durability.

"Keep shooting!" Zhang Cheng shouted, unloading his clip.

The team poured fire into the approaching herd, but the results were disappointing. The bullets weren't powerful enough to take them down instantly. The deer kept charging.

"Hold the line!" Lei Gang roared as he planted his shield into the ground. Several mutant deer rammed into him with tremendous force, nearly knocking him off balance. He gritted his teeth—his ribs ached from the impact, and his lungs felt like they'd been shaken loose.

By the time the team had emptied their magazines, they had only managed to kill two of the weaker deer. The remaining ones, though injured, were still charging forward.

Su Xiuyu sighed. The team's combat effectiveness was severely lacking—they needed serious training.

Without a word, he vanished.

In an instant, he reappeared among the mutant deer, his movements too fast to track. One by one, the massive creatures collapsed, knocked unconscious before they could even react.

By the time the dust settled, the entire herd was down.

The team stood in stunned silence, panting from exhaustion. Watching Su Xiuyu take down the mutant deer so effortlessly, they finally understood just how vast the gap was between them and their captain.

Back when they had challenged him, he had been holding back—far more than they realized.

Su Xiuyu clapped his hands. "Alright, everyone, load the two dead ones onto the transport. As for the rest, tie them up and notify the Secret Service to retrieve them."

"Yes, Captain!" the entire squad responded in unison.
