...

Each rank has four sub stages. Low, mid, high, and peak stage.

Mages at different ranks have different ways of using magic; the higher the rank, the more complex the spell casting process becomes; naturally, the spells become more powerful as well.

At the apprentice mage rank, mages can barely control their elements and just focus on studying and gathering mana in the soul sea.

At the adept mage rank, they need to form a complete star pattern to cast spells. A star pattern is made up of five stars that stay in a Mage's soul sea and are created by the mana that they absorb.

At the core mage rank, mages need to form two star patterns to cast spells.

Expert mages need to complete a constellation everytime they need to cast a spell. A constellation consists of five star patterns.

Master rank mages have to form 2 star constellations to cast spells.

Archmage's need to complete 4 constellations.

Grand archmage's need 6 constellations.

At the sage mage rank, a mage needs to complete a nebula before they can cast a spell. A single nebula is created by connecting twenty constellations.

An elder Mage needs to form two nebulas to cast spells.

A sorcerer mage needs to complete a link which is formed by connecting a hundred nebulas.

At the saint rank, mages no longer need to use other mediums to cast spells and can instantly use magic with their thoughts.

…..

Note, a mage needing to create a constellation doesn't mean that they can't use magic until they master creating a constellation. They can also use star patterns but the power of the spell will be weaker.

Creating the medium required for their ranks only allow mages to cast spells that are befitting of their ranks.

So, know that a sage mage can still use star patterns and constellations but the power of the spell would not be as strong as what a sage mage should let out.
