I had always thought Nelly was the brightest person I'd ever met—until now.
Danielle took that title effortlessly.
The way she looked at me when I entered the restaurant, her eyes practically glowing with excitement, was overwhelming. It was as if I'd just stepped out of a movie screen and into real life, and she wasn't entirely convinced I was real.
"Nice to finally meet you, Mr. Aiden!" she blurted out before I could even sit down.
I arched a brow, amused. This level of cheerfulness was… unnatural. She looked like someone who had never known a day of hardship in her life. It was almost ridiculous. I remembered seeing her briefly at the club. She was the one who pushed Nelly into sitting with me that night and also Nelly's drunk partner in crime.
"Nice to meet you too," I said as I slid into the seat. "I heard you insisted on meeting here instead of somewhere more private."
