On the Ship
The holographic map of the village flickered in front of V as he stared at it, deep in thought. Three days had passed, and yet there was still no progress. He and the girls had scouted the area multiple times, but there were no signs of Honkai Beasts anywhere.
His fingers tapped lightly on the table, his mind racing.
V:"There are still areas left unexplored, but searching there might be a waste of time. The forest… that's where the chances are higher."
Just as he was about to refine his analysis, the soft sound of footsteps reached his ears. Mei entered the room, carrying a tray of food.
Mei:"You should take a break,"
she said gently, her voice filled with concern.
V barely glanced at her before shaking his head.
V:"I can't."
Mei sighed, setting the tray down beside him.
Mei:"Then at least eat something. It might help clear your mind."
He hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Picking up the utensils, he began eating while his mind remained focused on the puzzle in front of him.
"(The village itself hasn't been affected, but Honkai energy is definitely present in this area Still, its source remains untraceable, No Honkai Beasts have appeared either… It doesn't add up.)"
Mei watched him for a moment, her expression troubled.
She knew that ever since they arrived, he had barely rested.
While she, Bronya, and Kiana took turns exploring and still found time to relax, V had done nothing but work.
She sighed again, this time more quietly. Without saying another word, she turned and left the room, the door closing behind her.
"I hope he finds something soon,"
she thought to herself.
It was the only thing she could do pray that he would find the answer he was searching for before he completely wore himself down.

As the group gathered, V stood before them, his expression as composed as ever.
V:"We're going to search the forest,"
he stated.
V:"Kiana, you'll go with Mei, Bronya, you're with me Since we'll be splitting up, I want you all to take these."
He reached into his coat and pulled out several small devices, handing one to each of them. They resembled a pair of sleek, futuristic headphones.
Mei examined hers curiously. "This is a communication device, right?"
V nodded. "Yes, but it's a limited-range model. It only works within small to medium-sized areas. This makes communication more stable and reduces interference in this region."
Kiana frowned as she turned the device over in her hands.
Kiana:"But why do we even need these? We already have long-range communicators."
Before V could answer, Bronya let out a sigh and crossed her arms.
Bronya:"Idiot The reason V is using a limited-range model is because it reduces the risk of long-distance interference If we rely on our usual communicators, we might run into signal disruptions."
Kiana huffed, clearly unimpressed, but didn't argue further.
Mei:"So, we'll be working in teams of two?"
Mei asked, shifting the conversation back on track.
V:"That's right,"
V confirmed.
V:"Since we still don't know the exact cause of the anomaly, I want everyone to report any findings before taking action—no matter how small."
Kiana rolled her eyes.
Kiana:"Yeah, yeah, I get it No need to repeat it."
Her annoyed tone earned a small, forced smile from Mei.
She already had a good idea why V had paired her with Kiana—it was to keep her unpredictable antics in check.
If Bronya had been paired with Kiana instead, there was a good chance they'd end up fighting each other instead of dealing with the Honkai Beasts.
V scanned the group one last time.
V:"That's all Any questions?"
When no one spoke, he gave a small nod.
V:"Alright then. Let's move out."

The forest was quiet, save for the rustling of leaves beneath their boots.
V and Bronya moved in silence, their steps steady as they scanned their surroundings.
It wasn't an awkward silence—just a mutual lack of anything to say.
But as they continued, V decided to speak.
The opportunity was here, and if there was a chance to move forward, he would take it.
V:"Bronya,"
he began, his voice even.
V:"What exactly is your goal?"
Bronya glanced at him, her expression unreadable.
Bronya:"My goal?"
"Yes. Why did you join St. Freya? What is it that you truly want to do?"
She didn't answer right away. Instead, she walked a few more steps in thoughtful silence.
Then, after a moment, she finally spoke.
Bronya:"Bronya thinks… it's to fulfill her goal of meeting someone important again."
V gaze remained forward, unreadable.
V:"Even if it means being deceived? Even if it costs the lives of others?"
Bronya's pace didn't falter.
Her voice was calm when she responded,
Bronya:"If it means seeing that person again, Bronya doesn't mind… even if she's being used."
How enviable.
V had no one like that anymore.
The people who had once been important to him were all gone—some torn apart by monsters, some killed by their own kind.
And some… had died by his own hands.
V:"If Seele knew you sacrificed others just to save her,"
he murmured,
V:"I bet she'd feel incredibly guilty."
Bronya stopped.
Her entire body tensed as the name left his lips.
V, who had walked a few steps ahead, paused and turned back to her.
Her voice was lower now, guarded.
Bronya:"How do you know that name?"
She had never mentioned Seele to him.
She was certain of it.
If she had, she would remember.
Which meant…
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at him.
Bronya:"You… Who are you?"
The question wasn't meant for him alone—it was a thought directed at herself as much as it was at him.
But even so, she wanted an answer.
The man in front of her… Who was he really?
V simply chuckled, the sound empty.
"I'm just a dead man who's lost his way."
