It was the colour. Definitely the colour of the clock hands that put me off. They should have been black.
I sat in the main square of the Magic Campus at the Academy, watching as students and lecturers hurried to their classes. Some even flew.
I shook my head. This wasn't going to be easy.
Master Pilak waved when he saw me.
"Ho! Lukas! Why are you on the stairs?" He asked, sitting beside me.
"I used to sit here sometimes, sir, when I was trying to avoid something."
"Like what?"
The clock tower in the centre of the square tolled the time, and the square quickly emptied as students redoubled their efforts to get to class.
"Sir, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, what's on your mind?"
I looked into the middle distance, "Why did you ban the gods from the Academy when you started it?"
